  1. When I was suffering with malabsorbtion, I started getting bruises all over my body for no reason. I was sent to a hematologist, and found out that I was extremely anemic - which explained why I was so tired all the time. The bruises were because I was not retaining any vitamin K, so my blood would not clot. I ended up in the hospital getting blood and...
  2. Are you talking about finding lists of foods that are gluten free? If so, try reading some of the entries on this site, Google GIG or go to Clan Thompson and download their Celiac Food Smart Lists. I know of other sites (ones that post brand names are good), but unfortunately I have to go to work now. I'll check back later to see if this is on the...
  3. Be careful at Wendy's. I go in and ask for a jr. cheeseburger, no bun - with lettuce and tomato, and a baked potatoe. I have seen the preparer make the order before mine by reaching up to get a bun with their hands, and then put the rest of the stuff on the bun. They will then go to make my order. I will ask them to change their gloves (if they are wearing...
  4. Thanks Carrie - I looked up one of my medicines. You really have a lot to look through. When I got down to the ingredients it specifically said "Gluten Free". . Cindy
  5. Ann, You can go to clanthompson.com If you click on Download site and then click on Demo Download Page You will get a free drug list. You can also have access to a gluten free food list from this site. Good luck. Cindy p.s.: Your dad's smile was a true ray of sunshine. I can see how he helped to keep you strong. Besides...
  6. Hi Jessica - I know you are going through a tough time now. We have all been through it. This group is great. They are full of so much helpful information. I live in Westminser, MD, which unfortunately is nowhere near you. I may go to the meeting on Sunday. I haven't decided yet. I've heard Dr. Fasano speak before. He is very knowledgeable. ...
  7. Have a great time!!!
  8. Brooke - Welcome to the forum! I would recommend getting a seperate colander only to be used for gluten free food. Gluten tends to get stuck in all of those tiny little holes. It may sound silly, but at work when I use the microwave to heat up my lunch, I wash down the door and the control settings. If someone used it before me to heat up a bagel...
  9. Health Valley makes Rice Crunch-Ums and Corn Crunch-Ums cereal. They tastes just like Chex. Tinkyada pasta is great! Gluten-Free Pantry makes a Chicken Flavor Broth Mix that I use as a spice for vegetables, rice or chicken. It gives things a really nice flavor.
  10. Welcome Ameme - I have been gluten free for 8 months, but I have been Diabetic for 27 years, so I do have some experience with glucose. Certain foods have a higher glycemic index and will affect your glucose levels in different ways. For instance potatoes will raise your glucose level in a different way than rice will. Actually, I didn't know that...
  11. sdor Sorry - I should have mentioned that I used sugar free Jello and Lite Cool Whip. It does sound yummy with pudding too . Cindy
  12. Thank you for making us aware of this issue. It is very important for the Celiac community to notify our senators to let them know how important Celiac research is to us! Jessica has made it very easy to make our voice heard. To the members of our board, Please take a few minutes to send the letter that she wrote to your senator. Cindy
  13. Polish on both sides.
  14. Hi Mandy - Welcome to the board! I live in Carroll County, but I grew up in Baltimore County in the Randallstown area. Send me a pm and let me know where in Baltimore you live. I am trying to get Carroll Hospital Center to start a support group, because there isn't anything around here. The Baltimore chapter is just too far for me to go. You're...
  15. Hi Dan - I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you. I will be interested in looking for anything that anyone else posts. I am having kind of the same sort of problem. Whenever I go to the bathroom to urinate, a little poop comes out too. I don't even realize that I had to go. It's the kind that is sticky and hard to clean up. Like you...
  16. Thanks - I kneaded that. Cindy
  17. I just came across a great recipe to bring to a party, or just for yourself! Cool and Easy Jello 1 pkg. (4 serving size) JELLO (Any Flavor) 2/3 cup boiling water Ice Cubes 1/2 cup cold water 1 tub (8 z.) gluten-free whipped topping, thawed Stir boiling water into dry gelatin mix in large bowl at least 2 minutes until completely...
  18. I made a pot of rice spaghetti earlier this week and put the leftovers in individual containers to bring for lunch. When I heat it in the microwave, I cover it in plastic wrap to keep it from splattering AND to prevent contamination. Sometimes I wlll make something in the crock pot and do the same thing. You can also freeze the individual containers...
  19. Jessica - you will find a lot of understanding and support here. Good luck!. Cindy
  20. I just can't stop eating...but I think my problem is depression. I have been gluten free for 8 months until this past weekend. Somehow I accidently got glutened, I think it may have been because my son made a grilled cheese sandwich on the George Foreman Grill. After the grill was cleaned, I used it. (Well the grill looked clean). I was sick as a dog...
  21. I like to make french toast with the Food For Life Rice Almond Bread or the Whole Foods Cinnamon Raisin Bread. It's a real treat. If you wrap a couple of slices of the Food For Life bread in paper towel and nuke it for about 30 seconds, it makes a great peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Cindy

  24. Laura - Welcome to the board. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. They will try to answer any questions you have. I know they have been very supportive to me . I have been gluten-free since Aprill, and have learned so much here. From reading some of the posts, I have noticed that everyone is different in how long it takes for being gluten...
