Cynthia, I'm glad you had a good day yesterday! Clan Thompson's Celiac Food SmartList says that Hellman's Lite, Hellman's Reduced Fat and Hellman's Regular Mayo are gluten free. I don't use mayo that much, but when I do, I try to stick to the low fat. Cindy -
ARCHIVED Frederick, Md
kevsmom replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Monica, I live in Westminster - which isn't too far far from Frederick. I know someone who shops in a health food store in Frederick, but I don't know the name of it - I will find out for you. Depending on where in town you are moving - if you are anywhere near Route 15, you can head into Gettysburg, PA, which has a nice health food store called The... -

Welcome Hummingbird-Hill! If you are running 200-300 blood sugars every day, this is a very possible reason for you to be tired. (Although it could be due to age too - I'm right behind you ). I also take multiple shots daily. I take Humalog on a sliding scale (depending on what my blood sugar is) at meals and at bedtime. I take Lantus at breakfast... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease And Diabetes
kevsmom replied to Christine Z's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 27 years, and was diagnosed with Celiac a year ago. I also have gained weight, and by blood sugars are all over the place. I know that the reason for this is that I am eating way too much gluten free processed food. I go to Whole Foods about once a month and stock up on gluten free cinnamon raisin bread, cranberry-orange... -
I was born in April. My brother, who also has Celiac, was born in June.

ARCHIVED I Have Alot Of Questions
kevsmom replied to youngmum3nz's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hang in there mum, this site is a wonderful place to come to for answers. If you click on the site index, there is a list of safe and forbidden foods. This list can be a little overwhelming, but it gets easier with time. Good luck, Cindy -
I wasn't diagnosed with celiac until age 46, but up until that time I was only having occasional bowel problems. Thinking back now, as a child, whenever I got a sore throat my tonsils would swell up and have these white humps on them. Cindy

There are some vitamins that you can purchase in stores that are gluten free. I have found Nature Made brand at Rite-Aid which states right on the bottle that it does not contain gluten. Cindy -
ARCHIVED Celiac
kevsmom replied to Terrilyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi TerriLynn and Laurel! I also wanted to mention medications. Laurel, when you mentioned how tired you were, I wondered if you were taking vitamins. When I first started my gluten free lifestyle, I didn't know to look for gluten in medications and supplements. I was getting ready to buy more vitamins, and I happened to read the label on my... -

kevsmom replied to Texas Celiac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome! You will find a lot of good information and support here. I know that it is really hard when you are just starting out. You have to read every ingredient in everything you pick up. It will seem like shoping will take forever. It does get better as you become familier with what you can and can not have. You don't say where you are from... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Cheddar Cheese Scones Discontinued?
kevsmom replied to Sis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that I would be upset if they discontinued the Cranberry/Orange Scones. They are wonderful - I buy them by the case and freeze them. They are always sold out of them when I go, which is not too often. The closest store is pretty far away. I always call about a week before I plan to make a trip to the store, and place an order for them and the Blueberry... -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream
kevsmom replied to Ronnie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Turkey Hill Ice Cream uses corn and tapioca modified food starches, both of which are also gluten-free. If the product contains gluten, wheat will be listed. I e-mailed edy's at www.edys.com and they sent me a list of their gluten-free products. We CANNOT have any of the ones with cookie or brownie pieces (duh) or the French Silk. The... -
ARCHIVED Skin Itching As A Symptom?
kevsmom replied to pattyanne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I thought that I was completely gluten free, but I had constant itching on my stomach. I contacted the manufacturers of the shampoo and body soap that I was using, and found out that they possibly contained ingredients that could be a source. I switched shampoos and soap, and the itching has improved. Cindy -

ChelsE - It didn't happen to me. I guess it could just be you (of course I didn't get home until around 7:15, and by the time I fixed dinner, ate and logged on, they got it fixed. Cindy -
My father had an iliostomy due to ulcerative colitis about 30 years ago. Of course they didn't test for Celiac back then. My brother was diagnosed with Celiac several years ago, and I was diagnosed 1 year ago. I feel that he most likely had it too. Cindy

ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Day
kevsmom replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Arby's website lists the roast beef and the baked potatoes as being gluten free. On my first (and only) trip to Arby's I ordered a medium roast beef without the bun and a baked potato. I was watching how they prepare orders, and they pull the meat from a tray with gloved hands and place it on a bun. I told them that they would have to change gloves...
