  1. I started seeing a lovely man a few weeks ago who I just realised today has 100% indications of DH. Even down to those scars we are all familiar with.. and he has the traditional clustering and has it in the traditional areas of the body. He is 'textbook'. It was one of those 'oh my god' moments. Months ago I read on here that celiacs have some unusual powers...
  2. Sounds like classic allergy reactions. Tongue swelling is a bit scary. If you haven't already you MUST get allergy testing done. Tongue swelling is often a pre-cursor to restricted throat and death.. may sound a bit dramatic but the reality is it can kill. I have what appears to be intolerance and wheat allergy (but my allergy reaction is much milder than...
  3. Sara, Whats the latest on you attempts to find out your test results?? Di
  4. I remember in my early days (about 12 months ago) I ate a bowl of rice. Nothing added. I was pretty desperate food wise cause nothing was going down well. I thought plain rice would be okay but it was quite the opposite. After that I stuck with soup/stews with minimal ingredients - started with pumpkin soup (literally pumpkin and water), potato with a little...
  5. Hi Dani, I think you are probably lucky you discovered your gluten/DH condition whilst younger than many of us. I was always itchy/scratchy, 'ingrown hairs' type and avoided gluten full foods without making the connection. I went to work in a bakery about 18months ago and 9 months later I broke out in full blown head to toe DH. All in one 6 hour shift...
  6. Just for a few moments I want you to leave the divorce and legal proceedings aside. I'll get back to that crap later When did your daughter start having problems with her health? How did it present? What lead you to getting celiac testing? What specific testing did she have and when? What specific symptoms does your daughter suffer - details/timings...
  7. Hi jobwabe, this is a pretty old thread but since you are relatively new I thought I'd respond to your post. As suggested earlier this burning is very (perhaps even universal) common in us that suffer from Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH). You might want to go to the DH thread. You'll get lots of useful advice there. We also tend to be super sensitive to any...
  8. pricklypear you are always so thorough and helpful for these newcomers!! My son and I are having a lot us success with heel balm. The brand I use is Australian: Eulactol I haven't tried any of the other brands. Open Original Shared Link The active ingredient is urea so it isn't the best smelling stuff and very sticky. Once it is on though it soaks...
  9. I feel in love this week. I've had a long 12 months with head to toe DH. It is far from pretty. I was at work looked up at the next customer in the line and literally my heart and brain told me I was going to marry this man. He is tall, strong gentleman straight from some Polish cavalry movie. On our second date he told me that it was a shame about my skin...
  10. I think the definition of "mild" DH is so much up for debate. I've been watching my 9 year olds DH develop over the past year. My DH went full blown a year ago.. when I went to work in a bakery. I'd always been gluten lite without a thought. Didn't like breakfast, pasta, pizza etc. Was always itchy/scratchy and had "ingrown hairs" and 'adult pimples'...
  11. Okay ... another vent. This one makes me really mad. I'm in Australia. Our Coeliac association only accepts members who have a doctors letter confirming coeliac diagnosis. So how many of us aren't in the association ?? Perhaps we need a Undiagnosed Coeliac Association (UCA).
  12. I love these stories. So here is mine.. I'm a single mum to a loving a tender 9y/o. Been overweight most of my 39 years. Today I am 65 kg (143pounds for our US readers). My dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is still head to toe but milder and mostly healing. I started getting the 'look' from men about 2-3 months ago. Now I am seeing a very gentlemanly man...
  13. * Frozen banana/orange is a great summer time snack. I cut the banana in half and then halve again then each piece into a freezer bag. The bag is good to hold the banana while eating it frozen. * My son loves yogurt (I only buy the basic/organic brands that are expensive but not like you need lots for lots of goodness) with banana or other fruit mixed...
  14. I think a bit of venting is warranted on this topic. I live in Canberra, Australia. Since January I've been working in a suburban supermarket. I would say every second or third day I see someone who has fairly obvious signs of possible DH. With head to toe DH the past year I have seen it in all its myriad of forms on different parts of body and different...
  15. I can't handle sals (salicylates) so the berry ones aren't an option for me. I probably shouldn't even have the apple & cinnamon (due to higher sals in any dried fruit). Since my DH appears to flare with accummulative sals I only have the Crunchola probably once a week, twice at most. It seems to be still working for me whilst my DH is greatly improving...
  16. I consider myself super/super sensitive to gluten. I've not been eating out free since Oct11 because of so much problems. I've only started picking up a glass of wine every now and again in the past two weeks. I am strict. Really strict. It has made an AMAZING difference in my DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). I have 100% faith in Freedom Foods oats containing...
  17. Long before my DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) became spectacularly evident one day I had one of those 'oh... wow' moments. I was in a health food shop and the owner/naturapthy asked me ( after inquiring about something to help my severe hayfever) what food I craved. Made me think.. eggs came to mind at the time. Two years later turns out that iodine is a problem...
  18. I'll give you a somewhat different angle on your results for you to think about. About 3 years ago I spoke with a naturopathy (not a paid appointment - she has a health food store and I was just making general inquiry about what might help my hayfever) and telling her my hayfever symptoms she promptly asked what foods I had cravings for but didnt eat regularly...
  19. I tried to delude myself that a gluten free house wasn't necessary for my DH. And it was a complete delusion. You really need to start considering when/how you could start adapting your kitchen, family diet, lunch boxes etc. It took me a long time to get over the delusion and about 2-3 months of re-adapting our house and diet etc but it is paying off.
  20. And for alternatives and variation make it more stew/casserole like. Add potato (peeled) and as soon as they soften mash the bits of potato. That acts as the thickener. It is my favourite way to do stew/casserole.
  21. OMG With my DH I'd be out of there, literally. I'm a low income single mum. After 12 months of head to toe DH this is a situation that would need me to be on severe avoidance.. so that I could have minimal impact on my ability to pay future bills. I hope it works out for you whatever you decide to do. Let us know. All of these experiences and decisions...
  22. What sort of cancer did your mother suffer? Do you know of your family genetic/medical history wrt gluten intolerance? My heart goes out to you. In the coming days I'm going to ask you a thousand questions so you can get both focused and feel like gluten-free doesn't take over your emotional space. I, and many others have been there. Your mums death is...
  23. I am 39 and never had much of a problem with "acne" as such but since my DH breakout I now know, in hindsight, that the pimples I've had all my life are DH. They are clearing now, gluten free. My DH has been head to toe and every other part of my body it is insanely itchy. Often it is painful like acid being sprayed onto my body. Sometimes I itch so bad...
  24. I made a point of 'testing' my dairy reaction regularly. Something in the maze of this journey told me I had to know how much I could tolerate. It has caused some near misses with the reaction in my GI system but now, in hindsight, I'm glad I did it. But I did it very slowly over a long 11 months. I have a feeling I will be watching my dairy and sals intake...
  25. Wow!!! I don't get much time to get to all the new posts these days unfortunately. I must revisit the Tickle me elbow - had forgotten about that one! After about 10 months I am back to full time work. Quite a milestone after the being so lousy for so long. At least I went to work in a bakery and the DH kicked in so that my GI/neuro didn't get any worse...
