ARCHIVED Dh & Probiotics - Sals Or Iodine
Di2011 replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You girls are adorable! I'd love to hear what you guys eat and cook. The sal/iodine is so restrictive so maybe you can give me some inspiration?? -
Hi Momma4, I have / having head to toe DH the past 11 months. My son (9y/o) is having loads of itchy/scratchy that is calming with gluten-free diet. The photos I have seen that you posted are very indicative of gluten intolerance. Read as much as you can about getting the tests done. There is a very high 'negative' result from tests for people who have...

Be STRICKLY GLUTEN FREE. Don't eat out. Start a food diary / food investigation into salicylate and or iodine intolerance. These can be hard. They are much more complicated than gluten. Prawns (iodine) and raisins (sals) where my early indicators of other things contributing to my problems.

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results - No Dh
Di2011 replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It has taken a couple of months of 'testing' buts sals is definitely a problem for me. Corn, raisins etc are all my 'avoid' list now. It has been a difficult but worthy journey for me. In the early days iodine caused a very temporary and very instant effect. Eating prawns caused a reaction within minutes. Now, gluten free strictly since Oct11 these don't... -
Hi Pricklypear, My personal experience and opinion agrees with you. A great summary for new comers ! (((oh how I feel for them)))

Hi lynxigirl, Gluten became my poisin 11 months ago. I was poor but working in a bakery. I got sick from a sinus infection that kept me from work. I went back to work at only 80percent and at the end of that 6 hour shift I had head to toe DH (dermatitis herpetiformis). Since going gluten free a lot of gastro and neuro symptoms have calmed. But the...

* the corn-only corn flour that isn't just corn (probably factory related, can't trust restaurants etc) * nuts (even "natural" that are processed or transported on common lines) * ((I am very sensitive)) gluten free processed foods that are tested (how often??) at a particular level but my DH can't tolerate any much... this is the hardest one. Rice and...

ARCHIVED Is There Always A Visible Rash?
Di2011 replied to GiGi F's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I found that within about max of 3-4 weeks (a bit longer with other products) my tastebuds had adapted to gluten free flours and mixes etc. One day you may be the best producer of commercial gluten free flour mix and breads on the market. It is a growing business. BTW you might get the chemistry but for me and my son Gluten free bread is worse than the gluten... -
You should also keep an eye on your childrens condition. Do they show any signs of celiac?
-
What an interesting and inspiring rendition of the celiac story. You are truly very lucky that your GI doc was so thorough. I think you would have died without her persistance and stamina. I too have lost a lot of weight with gluten free diet. I don't know how bad I was at my worst but probably about 110-115 kilograms ( 240-250 pounds). Today I am about...

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Di2011 replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Kazz, Where do you live? Perhaps we can help you to find a local doctor, support groups and such? -
DWS, BTW Today I totally gluten free'ed my house. It was about 11 months overdue and remarkably good for my piece of mind. My son is 9y/o and has been gluten lite but with indications of DH so I knew it was time to get serious. I gave away or threw out about 200 dollars worth of baking goods, frozen goods etc - not easy but worth it for our health and getting...
-
DWS, have you investigated salicylates? (sals for short) ???Open Original Shared Link I have bad DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) which naturally puts me in the super sensitive category. My gastro and neuro symptoms cleared soon after going gluten free however DH is taking a LONG TIME to clear. It is getting better but getting to 'clear/healed' will be...

ARCHIVED Upset, Confused, Venting, Scared & Frustrated
Di2011 replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I also believe the sals intake is cumulative. Too much iodine (like eating prawns~~) gives me an almost immediate react but tends to be temporary. The minefield of sals has been harder to navigate. Such a extensive/complex set of foods involved. I now stick with the negligble/low sals list on Open Original Shared Link and try to avoid the depressing idea... -
ARCHIVED Upset, Confused, Venting, Scared & Frustrated
Di2011 replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi JUstnana, Have you consider the other things that contribute to our DH problems? The two most commonly mentioned on here are: Iodine (Open Original Shared Link) Salicylates (sals for short): Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Help! Is This Safe Or Not?
Di2011 replied to dani nero's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't seem to tolerate any. I wonder what people who aren't super sensitive but consuming lots of 20 ppm products (think about it - breakfast cereal/toast, sandwich at lunch, pasta etc for dinner with lots of possible Gluten-Free snack foods in between). What is it doing to them? There needs to be so much research into ppm measures and diet habit. -
ARCHIVED Tocopherol Acetate Confusion
Di2011 replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some of us with DH have a problem with sals (salicylates) Open Original Shared Link btw I also don't tolerate any of the commercial products like soap, shampoo etc. I am slowly (as finances allow) converting to no gluten and ((even harder)) low sals personal products. It is a very tough road but seems to make a difference. My circumstances are extreme... -
ARCHIVED Eating In South Korea
Di2011 replied to Gonzo-Vision's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My son is traveling to Korea for his martial arts world championships in July so I am grateful for the information. He is currently 'gluten lite' given he is currently undiagnosed with DH but I have many concerns about him having 10 days of being hit with gluten after being gluten lite for some time. His grandmother (who will travel with him) is in denial... -
ARCHIVED Seeing A Derm. This Week!
Di2011 replied to CeliacFashionista's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Let us know how the visit goes. Dapsone is the only recorded medication that helps DH. If is generally said that if it works for you then you have DH. But be VERY careful about Dapsone ... read all the warnings and be sure you get the testing required to ensure it isn't destroying something else. Do your homework. And perhaps some concern about mixing the... -

Hi Carolyn, There are many of us more recent forum members that would be grateful for you ideas and experience. Please, please stick with your forum watching for a while. ARCHIVED Seeing A Derm. This Week!
Di2011 replied to CeliacFashionista's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Have you had the DH biopsy? If you haven't been diagnosed by skin biopsy then you may want to insist on it. Then you know for sure and then dapsone may be an option (there are many side effects and liver etc monitoring required). Get as knowledgable about DH as you possibly can about DH before visiting the Dermatologist. If in doubt ring the clinic and ask... -
Yes thank you thank you thankyou ! There is a compounding chemist only 5 minutes drive from home but had never though of that

Don't need a hole in the wall for DH to make you cry though huh!?
