ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Di2011 replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
What clothes wash (liquid) do any of you Australians use? I am getting pretty edgy about whether some of the chemicals are wheat derivates but not having much luck with my research... My skin is still quite a mess after many months gluten free (and a bunch of other things). -
I have been trying to clear my DH for many many months with some success Gluten Free. Now that I have been strictly gluten-free for so long, and reading so many recent posts on this forum I am at an end.. except I wonder if there is something in our clothes wash? The only other (harder to determine) options I have left are water supply and any indirect...

I wonder if anyone who has DH on this forum doesn't have another underlying issue, whether it be (super)sensitivity to cross contamination or additional immune reaction with other substance (as suggested such as additional additives, preservatives, iodine, etc etc). Anyone out there reading who has been diagnosed DH but NOT dealing with additional problems...

Mine is just as described in above postings and your photo is similar to how my torso currently looks. I am yet to determine exactly how my current flare occured however contact with hard surfaces (zips on pants for example, scratching etc) certainly make for a painfully itchy flare. I wish I could help. Lots of loose clothing (helps as a female wearing...

This was the worst area for my DH. I am 38 but wouldn't describe it as diaper rash, though his pooping a lot could also contribute to any "rash" he might have. Does he scratch a lot? Given that you are celiac you might have some traction with a dermatologist to skin biopsy for DH. Otherwise I would seriously consider trying a gluten free diet.

Iodine was a big problem for me in the early days. Now I can tolerate it in moderation. I am one of the "all over" DH suffers so I think that has a lot to do with it. My theory/hypothosis is that that the more gluten in the system the longer to discharge it and hence how long iodine will have an effect on DH. I ate prawns(shrimps) 3 months ago and immediately...

ARCHIVED Photo Included...tell Me What You Think
Di2011 replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Ditto for me too. My hands are the last area of my body to be affected. Started at the ankles and worked itself upward. At the moment my upper torso and arms/hands are still affected with general itching elsewhere. But if you haven't had it on your upper thigh/buttocks then you haven't had the worst of it. Avoid gluten in any form (if you don't know what... -
ARCHIVED How Exactly Is Dh Diagnosed?
Di2011 replied to The Horticulturalist's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think a lot of childrens DH is undiagnosed for a few reasons: 1. it looks like a single or just a few "mosquito bites" because when more than one lesion they tend to be "grouped" so it appears similar 2. it is intermitent and/or located in one or just a few areas 3. highly dependent on gluten intake ie I avoided it for decades but with higher... -

ARCHIVED How Long After Exposure Do Lesions Appear
Di2011 replied to TriciaW's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There are a number of "gluten free" ingredients that effect me which are of gluten product origin (such as xanthan gum etc etc). You might need to be like me and others and research online ingredients in detail. If it says grain/starch (not necessarily but "might" be wheat/barley etc involved in manufacturer) then it is best to avoid. Most of the research... -

Oh and by "non-issue" I mean in terms of effecting us locally. Not that it isn't in the news or thoughts of people here. -
ARCHIVED My Experience With Dh Lesions
Di2011 replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
How interesting to read about you in the West USA being affected by the Japanese problem. Here in Australia it is a bit of a non-issue. I have never read a food product coming from Japan (mostly ours goes to Japan) although I guess some specific Japanese cuisine (seaweed?) might. Can someone please explain to me about the change (tilt?) in the sun? ... -
ARCHIVED My Experience With Dh Lesions
Di2011 replied to weaselfish's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi WF, Can you tell us how you were diagnosed with DH, through biopsy or self diagnosed? I am self diagnosed and have head to ankle (still waiting for a calming of my DH after months ). But I definitely need gluten free and iodine low to keep healing. You seem to be very self sufficient in terms of researching your condition and resolution which is... -

Di2011 replied to TriciaW's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Your feelings are completely understandable. Don't be too hard on yourself. Your son is incredibly lucky to have you to advocate for his health. You really need to get your head around the fact that this is a life time issue for you and your family. The sooner you see it as a long term / lifestyle change the easier it will be for you to deal with today... -
ARCHIVED Well, Some Tests Are+
Di2011 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thinking of you pricklypear From what I have just read Thalassemia is even less known, undiagnosed etc than celiac/gluten intolerance. I hope you have a good doc to help through the coming days/weeks/months. You remember to get those test results and publish here. "some" positive sounds like positive yes? -

Di2011 replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thats 2 now!!! I sure hope forum members will keep adding to this thread and the numbers! Here is number 3: My ex-MIL (yes, ex but she is like a second mum ) had us for early xmas dinner week before last. We not only had the best chicken and salad dinner but she also gave me a gift of gluten-free soap (lemon myrtle - yum!) and chap stick. She was so keen... -

ARCHIVED Baked Goods W/o Xanthan Gum
Di2011 replied to AVR1962's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I so wish for a xanthan gum replacement. I suspect there won't be one for the few of us who can't tolerate it... I am coming to the acceptence that pastry and "dough" anything will not be tolerated. -
I've heard and read that nights are difficult .. I have a 3pm (or there abouts) problem.. Anyone have a afternoon breakout?

ARCHIVED How Exactly Is Dh Diagnosed?
Di2011 replied to The Horticulturalist's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I would be careful with using benzocaine however it does seem to ease the itch. As a parent with a child suffering DH I have something to say... this is the most itchy thing on earth and I hope that others have some alternative or something to say in addition. These things on you childs skin aren't like mosquito bites. For me it is like acid. Toxic... -
ARCHIVED Are Mouth Ulcers More Common With Someone Who Has Dh?
Di2011 replied to salexander421's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I think the mouth is an interesting area when it comes to gluten intolerance. I got head to ankle DH in June. Now it is mostly torso to hands. I've always been itchy/scratchy since I remember. I got one mouth ulcer in July when I wasn't as strict as I need to be. I don't have any particular mouth/dental issues.
