  1. I agree with itchy new patches keep arriving and old ones disappear and may resurface. If it is DH then you will need to be patient and very strict with your diet, personal care products etc. I can't tolerate most Gluten free products. I also suspect corn has an effect on my lesions intensity (and loads of gluten-free product has corn/maize or byproducts...
  2. This is an interesting thread. I went to work at a bakery in Aug 2010 after most of life avoiding gluten subconciously (avoided breakfast, didn't like pizza/pasta etc etc). In May 2011 I got another (almost continuous by that stage) "virus" sinus infection, had almost a week off work. The first day back at work I left at the end of 6hours with DH rash all...
  3. You all have to remember it is poison. Don't go there. When you see gluten products you need to see that poison warning you see on insect spray cans. Don't do it to you and don't do it to that little guy/girl who is coming your way. Change the way your mind "sees" or "wants" gluten products for the sake of a marvelous parenthood. Being a parent is the best...
  4. could well be dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) .. check out the forum topic under that name. Your system is probably in a messed up way and DH is a baffling condition.

    ARCHIVED Is This Dh?

Do you eat gluten lite? ie not so keen on breakfast (toast/cereal), avoid pizza/pasta and so on?
  6. Actually you probably are a bit crazy. If it is DH and you've got it coming and going all over the place like mine then how could you not be feeling a bit or a big bit crazy!! It started at my ankles and made its way up to the head so it was certainly baffling. You'll need to be very very strict with your Gluten-Free diet. Let us know how you go at the...
  7. IMO Sugar would be the first consideration. and then going as close to whole food as you can. I think the best idea is stick to the outer aisle of the supermarket - veg, fruit, meats/seafood. I rarely use the middle aisles of the supermarket and I was losing so much weight that I had to consider how to add calories. After nearly 40 years overweight that...

    ARCHIVED Rash On Wrist!

I have a problem with many "gluten free" products that use wheat(gluten) as derivatives. As an example xanthan gum is often wheat derived but supposedly "gluten free" due to the process it undergoes. It is gluten free enough for me so I avoid the gums and the 400's and 1400's additives as a strict rule. My DH has been so bad that I tend to avoid any product...

    ARCHIVED Celiac?

I will ditto with itchy and squirmyitch on their advice. My experience is very similar. If you get a diagnosis you'll be a lucky one. But there are so few of us that the medical community doesn't known much about us. Unusual GI issues (not typical celiac) plus the unusual skin condition is just too hard for medical personnel. I would recommend you stop...
  10. My scalp has never been too problematic but I bet if you saw my hands/breasts then you might think scalp has some competition in the 'worst place' contest!! There isn't a place that I haven't had it (one exception: souls of my feet) so I've got a pretty good idea of where is worst for me. Scalp and hands are top of the bill. Breasts and butt come second....
  11. I find any adrenaline rushes effects mine. I fright easily and when that happens I really feel it at the skin level rather than any blood rush feelings. This has only been since my DH began in May last year. I believe corn also impacts my DH. A couple of weeks ago I had a few days of over indulging in corn and popcorn (whilst remaining on my very strict...
  12. I find herbal Lemon tea is the most palatable. I can't remember the brand but there is one that is lemongrass and its my favourite (need to restock!). I love camomile but I can't imagine kids being very interested.

    ARCHIVED Why?

This is basically my circumstances too. I was always avoiding gluten containing foods subconsciously then went to work in a bakery which became an obvious trigger. I was always itchy though, even before the bakery. In hindsight a lot of mosquito bites and ingrown hairs actually were not. So I believe I've always had it just that the bakery made it all-over...
  14. thanks for the info squirmingitch I also read somewhere that the soil (and consequently grass/feed) iodine content can influence the iodine content of dairy
  15. Sorry ... didn't mean "free" meat/veg/fruit but meant to be "fresh"... 9months of broken (if any) sleep with the itching is getting to me...
  16. What a great girlfriend you are to him!!! Make sure he gets plenty of free meat / veg/fruit too
  17. So did you do the psych test? I would have been tempted to experiment with a psychologist over this.
  18. Yehaa!!!! for you glutenfreechef (you are no longer "new" IMO) Sounds like you will have one of the best jobs and bosses ever! I don't have any particular food specific ideas (already cover from earlier posters:) but I do recommend you (and your new boss) make a massive effort to have an area of the kitchen which is ALWAYS gluten free. This would have...
  19. Sugar is bad. Stick to the simple homemade chicken/lamb/beef & veg soups etc until you need. After 10 months I still can not do "bagels" or other processed foods, even chocolate. Be patient and persistent.
  20. Hi tippi2birds, I'd had these for years. Now (after a 9month stint working in a bakery, quit May 2011) I have all over dermatitis (probably dermatitis herpetiformis associated with gluten intolerance). The itch sometimes felt a bit like a nerve tingle for me. Now that I have been full blown skin itch/blister I wish I'd known earlier what the cause was....
  21. Best: immersion - go live in Germany - but probably not practical Next best: * find out where your local German community live/socialise * ask clubs/community groups etc to put up flyers/pamphlets asking for a language learning "helper" . You would be amazed how many expats etc would love to help you learn their language. * Google/Find out about...
  22. I moved to Canberra, Australia in 1999. It is notoriously bad for hayfever. I've had debilitating hayfever (with all the asthma, sinus infections that can go with it) every year until this past spring. I haven't even sneezed for months - let alone been in bed with raging infection, red blood shot eyes, box of tissues a day etc etc like I did all those years...

    ARCHIVED Soapnut

This morning I got a tip-off from beebs on the "international" forum about a product called soapnuts. Google it to find out about its origin/use etc. Open Original Shared Link I'd be interested if anyone has used it before. Otherwise I'll let you know if a few weeks how it is going for me. Di
  24. OH MY am I excited. I can use it for shampoo and soap etc too!! This could be the thing I've been looking for, for months! Thank you beebs. This is worth a read : Open Original Shared Link
