ARCHIVED Starbucks Drinks
CK1901 replied to gilligan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They do let you see the container if you ask them. They don't list any wheat ingredients on the soymilk container. I haven't checked it recently, but I've also never had a bad experience. You're gonna want to check the syrup though. -
I've had good luck requesting grilled or broiled wings at a lot of local places. If you are going to a chain, that's a different story.

Thanks, I really like her in general, so I'm going to give it a little more time. Obviously, we have to give people the benefit of the doubt and I definitely get the feeling that this woman's intentions and motivations are where they need to be in order to generally constructive and helpful. I'm going to print out some stuff from the celiac sprue association...

I'll see how it goes with this one for a few more sessions, but I think that's a great idea kareng.

Go talk to an allergist, explain the situation, and discuss whether you should do the gluten challenge. Also i agree you need to ask your mom for your medical records and talk to your primary about whether or not the diet is really necessary for you.

So I've been a mess with anxiety and insomnia and mood swings recently. As a result, I decided it might be time to go back to counseling. (I used to go before I was diagnosed with Celiac but stopped many years ago.) It's taken a while, but I'm at a point where I think I need to acknowledge and deal with some of the stressors in my life, celiac being one of...

ARCHIVED Pillsbury Gluten Free Pie Crust
CK1901 replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've still seen the pie crust and the pizza dough around the dc metro, as recent as this past weekend. Never tried it, but I guess people still buy it around here. -
ARCHIVED Wegman's Sushi
CK1901 replied to CK1901's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
True. This is weird for Wegman's, since they have always been so great about catering towards celiac disease and they even have information about celiac labeling on their website. Really strange they would only go half-way on the sushi given how good they are about everything else in their store. -
ARCHIVED Wegman's Sushi
CK1901 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi All, Any fellow Wegman's shoppers might have noticed that they've changed all of their sushi over to contain "no gluten ingredients" They even have a sign up at my local store. However, I just wanted to warn people to be careful. Even though they switched over to gluten free tempura mix and tamari, they are still using a shared deep fryer for all the... -

ARCHIVED Disappointed At Chipotle - What Should I Expect?
CK1901 replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Also talk to my gastro and primary, who both acknowledge rashes and hives as symptoms. Just because you don't have skin manifestations doesn't mean you speak for the whole celiac community. -
ARCHIVED Disappointed At Chipotle - What Should I Expect?
CK1901 replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm diagnosed with celiac since 2011 via an endoscopy. Hives and rashes have always been part of a collective set of symptoms for me. It might be dh, but I've never been able to get it biopsied in time. It's not an allergic reaction. I also get stomach issues, head aches, insomnia, and depression after a glutening. Considering the plethora of misinformation... -
ARCHIVED Disappointed At Chipotle - What Should I Expect?
CK1901 replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ugh ate chipotle and got glutened pretty badly. We ordered catering for a build-your-own taco lunch at work. Chipotle assured me each ingredient would be packed separately. I broke out in hives and I am covered in a rash on my chest and shoulder. Might go to the hospital for steroids if it doesn't go away soon. -
ARCHIVED Talenti Gelato
CK1901 replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think it's good advice, especially for any new Celiacs that may be perusing this board, to say that all we need to do is check the labels and not worry about whether or not a claim has been made. That has not been the case in my experience and I think this forum is ripe with other people who've said the same thing. I've been cc'ed and glutened... -
ARCHIVED Breyer's Ice Cream
CK1901 replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Breyer's is making a valient effort to label everything and they are telling us very clearly which products are potentially not safe. i wouldn't eat it. Adding your own toppings takes like 2 seconds,. -
ARCHIVED Talenti Gelato
CK1901 replied to Annaem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cross contamination is a concern for all celiacs. I don't view this as a grey area. I will not be purchasing Talenti any longer. For what they charge, which is borderline obscene, I think they can probably afford gluten testing. Many other companies use the shared lines, clean everything, test their products, and come up celiac-safe. For example, please see... -

ARCHIVED Significant Other Who Doesn't Understand :(
CK1901 replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can never understand people that behave that way. There is so more to life and relationships than shoveling greasy restaurant food in your mouth! I might sound like a high mainentance maniac, but I've had good success being more picky than not. It's perfectly fine to hold your significant other to a high standard of behavior. If you feel like the relationship... -
ARCHIVED Talenti's New Stance On gluten-free Labeling
CK1901 replied to Mr. Pep'r's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think it's worth eating it. Seems to me like they are not compliant with the current FDA standards for using the term "gluten free" or they wouldn't needlessly risk losing that demographic.- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Is Talenti Gelato Safe?
CK1901 replied to durrsakja's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
bumping this thread - i noticed Talenti has been taking "gluten free" off of their gelatos recently. Some of the ones in the store by me are still marked and some of them aren't. Their website is still listing gluten free flavors, but when I picked up the peanut butter cup one (previously marked gluten-free, still listed gluten-free on the website) the other... -
made a mistake and at the dressing that came my salad...they said it was gluten-free...but I suspect it wasn't. Oil and Vinegar only moving forward....

Update here ---overall this went fine. The problem was that I couldn't get anyone to tell me what restaurant we were going to in advance. We ended up at two places that didn't offer gluten free menus, but the waiters were very nice about trying to accomodate me. Did a salad at the first place, fish and vegetables at the next. I got hit with some cross...

So I have to go to NYC with my boss tomorrow and have lunch with a small group of people that we regularly do business with. I am super nervous and have tried to breach the topic with my boss, but was left unclear whether he has let them know about my dietary restriction (Which he knows about, but is generally not that sensitive towards.) The end of the conversation...
