I usually don't watch The View as I'm working but I had to eat lunch early today and I had the tv on while preparing lunch. Some Dr. was on pushing his book - Ultra Metabolism. He did not mention Celiac disease but he did say gluten in the course of talking about what our bodies were made to digest. Elizabeth (host) did not say she had Celiac either so that...

ARCHIVED Oscal D For Osteopenia
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
tarnalberry - yes I read another post of your about magnesium so I'm going to get that too. The Oscal D is gluten free - I called today. I'll get the magnesium and Oscal tomorrow. I have a shoulder injury so I can't do anything with my left arm but my pt excercises but I'll get on the treadmill for now. Hopefully my arm will heal and I can get back into power... -
ARCHIVED Hello And A Few Questions
floridanative replied to Agent Z's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Agent Z - I like your screen name. Go to the websites of each fast food place and you'll see what foods they offer that are gluten free. I think for MD's you can have their eggs and sausage but not bacon and you can have a burger no bun but double check that on the website. From what I remember about Taco Bell they offer few gluten-free options... -
I tagged this on another thread but no one replied so I had to start a new topic. My GI doc gave me my bone scan results (which show I have Osteopenia) and there were three numbers ranging from -.09 to -1.6. She told me to take otc Oscal D, 500mg daily. She also told me to make sure it was gluten free.....thanks doc. Now I've read what everyone else here...

ARCHIVED 11 Cavities In A 3 Year Old?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all - thank you to everyone for sharing your opinions. Jerseyangel - you may not have read my older post about my sister's idiot pediatrician. He thinks if my sister doesn't have Celiac - her kids do not need to be tested. I've sent all the proven medical info showing that is ridiculous and told her repeatedly her kids should be tested at age... -
ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Day
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I finally have an ignorant story of my own to share. After months of no Mexican food (out) I decided that I was sure I could have the taco salad (not in shell) if nothing else so off we went for dinner. Mostly I wanted a margarita but anyway, I had the mexican food gluten-free dining card and showed it to the server. Then I told her I wanted the # whatever... -
ARCHIVED Duncan Hines No Longer gluten-free
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Duncan Hines has now reinvestigated their Creamy Homestyle frostings (canned) and they are gluten free...excpet for maybe strawberry for some reason. I'm going to try Jerseyangels recipe for frosting one day though - I think even I can do that one. -
ARCHIVED 11 Cavities In A 3 Year Old?
floridanative posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Okay - some of you know that I have tried unsuccessfully to get my sister (tested neg. for Celiac) to get her children tested as well. The girl catches every virus around and is sick 1/2 the time and the boy who is three is thought to have lactose intolerance which you know Celiac imitates very well. So we were visiting the family out of town over the weekend... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Osteopenia
floridanative replied to cmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow Molly - yes I think you won this one!! I have a question for those of you who understand bone scan results since I do not. I had three scores ranging from -.9 to -1.6. My GI doc told me to take Oscal D, 500mg and that I did not need an rx. I don't want an rx but I also don't want to be taking something otc that is not strong enough to help me keep... -
ARCHIVED Can You Be A Celiac With No Family History?
floridanative replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think way more people have it than even the best Celiac docs think and in ten years it won't be a big deal to eat out and buy gluten-free food because so many people will have it. Then we'll have better gluten-free food available and lower prices. And then we'll all be whining that we are that special anymore because it will seem like everyone has it! LOL... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Osteopenia
floridanative replied to cmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been playing phone tag with my doctor regarding my bone scan for a week so today in the mail arrives a letter from her. I have osteopenia as well - I'm almost 43. What a drag, guess I'll be trading my iron, folic acid and b-12 for magnesium, vit. D and some calcium prescription. Thanks to all above with the good advice....doc only mentioned the vit.... -
ARCHIVED Ds Ttg Was Very High...ped Just Called With Results
floridanative replied to wolfie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
the ttg indicates 99% specificity rate for Celiac. The only way he doesn't have it is if he has liver disease or diabetes instead. Did he have a lot of viruses too or just stomach aches? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Trading Company
floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just found out about this site. Their address is their name.com. They seem to have about every single brand of gluten free food out there. I have been ordering from several sites and racking up shipping costs in the process. With this site, it's like one stop shopping. They even have the #1 rated gluten-free pasta from Italy - Bi Aglut. They have a waffle... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Interpret Blood Test Results
floridanative replied to SuperBeck's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your blood work is negative for Celiac but that does not mean you don't have Celiac. I think at least 20% of people with it have negative blood test results. If you don't want to have the biopsy and see what that shows, you can try the diet and see if it helps you. Good luck. Oh and the note about Celiac specificity is on all standard tests and it means if... -
Wow - thanks for the info on Chipolte and Mac. grill! Of course I doubt I've ever had anything at the latter except for reg. pasta. But it's worth trying a fish or chicken dish just to expand my dining choices. I rarely ate at Chipolte before going gluten-free but I'll give them a try now since I'd love some un cc'd corn chips eating out!

ARCHIVED Publix Has New gluten-free Food!
floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since I have been gluten free, the Greenwise aisle has gotten larger at my Publix stores, but most of their new additions have not been gluten-free. Well today I perused the area as I do at least monthly and they had some brand of rice pasta called Notta Pasta. They also have Genisoy soy snacks for those who eat soy, Pamela's gluten-free biscotti (three flavors... -
Le Reminet - 3 rue des Grands-Degres Au Sergent Recruiter - 41 rue Saint-Louis en I'lle (a great value if you drink wine) Le Pre Verre - 8 rue Thenard Auberge de la Reine Blanche - 30 rue Saint-Louis en L'ile Italian place right next to Hotel Abbatail on Blvd. Saint Germaine...maybe 48 Blvd. St. Germaine I'm missing two places so I'll have to look...

ARCHIVED Need Food Ideas For 5 Hr. Flight
floridanative replied to popoki321's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
For my recent vacation I had to take my own meal per Delta no longer offering gluten-free meals. They did give me a vegan meal which I was able to eat the salad and fruit from (without dressing). I packed cheese, crackers, that new Hormel cooked bacon, lots of fruit (some dried), carrot sticks and a larabar. I had plenty of food for both dinner and b'fast... -
ARCHIVED Paris Is Ahead Of The Us On Celiac
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
London was easy but nothing food wise was memorable except for our afternoon tea (food) at the Dorchester which is where we went for our anniversary. I had ordered gluten free food for both of us even though my hubby could eat whatever he wanted since he didn't want to risk the staff mixing up our food. Well when the brought out the tea sandwiches, we didn... -
ARCHIVED Paris Is Ahead Of The Us On Celiac
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
GFP is right about Italy being far more up to date on Celiac than France. Many places there (Italy) actually have corn pasta for the asking. Others will cook your own pasta, buy it when you get there to save money (and packing room) and then make sure you dining cards say to cook in clean water and they will totally do it. My Mother is going on a Med. cruise... -
ARCHIVED Paris Is Ahead Of The Us On Celiac
floridanative posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Well after much research on dining out gluten free in Paris and being worried that it was not possible, I have to report that eating out gluten free there was much easier than here in the US. And from what I found out, France is about the least friendly gluten free country in all of Europe. Now that is pathetic in my opinion. Of course as someone else mentioned... -
ARCHIVED House Tv Show Will Feature Celiac Disease
floridanative replied to irish's topic in Publications & Publicity
I missed the show as I was out of the country but I'd like to add that my Mother's only sister is a dx'd paranoid schrizophrenic and now I believe that she too has Celiac like Mother and I do. Just in her case, the gluten is attacking her brain, not her intestines (or both). She is on disability and we don't have contact with her so she'll never be tested... -
Nisla - make sure and tell them to keep it on the web for a while. Then maybe those of us that can't listen Sat. can hear it later. I'll be disappointed if I don't get to hear it.
-
Kudos to you for not giving up! That is so great to hear you have someone who will listen and knows that you know yourself and your kids better than any doctor ever will.
-
I agree with everyone above. For whatever reason, many docs are just arrogant and don't want a patient telling them something they don't know. Makes them feel insecure I guess. Anyway, keep looking for a good doc to follow up with - if that is you pcp that's fine. As long as you know the doc will do any tests you feel you need. My pcp didn't know anything...
