ARCHIVED Tallahassee Gluten Free Restaurants
floridanative replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
They have a Bonefish Grill there which is awesome! Of course that's if you like fish! -
ARCHIVED You Got To Read This!
floridanative replied to kaciemarie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ditto!!!! If doctors don't know zip about Celiac disease, you can bet that 90% of the servers you encounter in the average US restaurants do NOT know that flour is made from wheat, that white bread is made from wheat and so on and so on. I went to a hoity toity country club to eat and was told the chef knows all about gluten since several members there have... -
ARCHIVED South City Kitchen- Atlanta
floridanative replied to kimjoy24's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks so much for posting about this place! I heard it was great from non Celiac diners so I'm excited to try it now. Thanks again! -
ARCHIVED Bugaboo Creek Steak House
floridanative replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I also ate at Bugaboo successfully - the reg. steak I always got before with salad/potato. Could not have the app. I like which is the art./spinach dip but I didn't mind. This week our meetup/Celiac group is eating at the one in Duluth GA. Also, their Moose Juices are gluten free too! -
ARCHIVED Turning Vanilla Cake Into Chocolate
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay I made more muffins with the vanilla mix and they turned out great! I would call them cupcakes but they don't need frosting now. I added about a 3/4 cup of choc chips and 1/2 cups of sweetened coconut. I only ate one of them while still hot and it was scrumptious. The icky flavor was really no where to be found which is just what I was hoping for. Thanks... -

White Wine
floridanative replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only wine I found that has gluten is some Ports so don't drink those without checking them. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Soup!
floridanative replied to DawnM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Progresso makes a few gluten-free soups and call out all forms of gluten on their labels. I have their creamy mushroom soup but have not tried it yet. Just found out that the potato soup mix from Fantastic Foods is also gluten-free. They now carry it in the Greenwise section of some Pulbix stores. That line makes an awesome gluten-free Orignal Hummus mix... -
ARCHIVED Barbecue Sauces
floridanative replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
KC Masterpiece Original bbq sauce is gluten free but many of their marinades are not. They will not hide gluten in the form of 'natural flavors' and call out wheat, rye and barley on their labels. -
ARCHIVED Turning Vanilla Cake Into Chocolate
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I kind of think it may be the tapioca flour I don't like but that's in everything. It seems as long as there is another flavor added, it doesn't bother me. For my cake mix I decided to make chocolate chip/coconut muffins. I need to serve them at my support group meeting Sat. and many there have issues with nuts so I can't add them. If they were just for me... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Dummies
floridanative replied to swittenauer's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm finished with it and the only improvement I could see is if all the recipes were on perforated sheets so I could compile them in my gluten-free recipe folder. Danna does not profess to be a great cook but some of her recipes looks great and seem super easy which is the only type I try. Recipes aside, it's a very relateable book and made me laugh throughout... -
Isn't is great when servers know what Celaic and gluten are??!! I did enjoy the food in Paris more than in London but unlike Paris, in London the hosptitality staff (in restaurants I mean) are all trained on Celiac and gluten so they know what you can and can't have, as do the chefs. Have afternoon tea while you're there. You can get gluten free 'tea' food...

ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive For Celiac
floridanative replied to BostonCeliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the club. I'd bet the house that you have Celiac disease. I'm sorry but the sooner you get dx'd and go gluten free, the sooner your new healthier life begins. This board will be a great source of help for you. Six months into the diet/lifestyle and I still need help to know what products are good/bad and what tests and supplements are important... -
ARCHIVED Turning Vanilla Cake Into Chocolate
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The box of cake mix I still have cost me $6 plus frt. so I'm going to use it. I didn't even cook before going gluten free so I'm not quite ready for baking from scratch - to say the least. Nope Juliem- I don't think it's the chestnut flour because the taste I don't like is in kinickinnick bread and in Namaste vanilla cake (which was so bad I threw the... -
I think there are five Celiac research centers in the US. Many US cities and towns do not have one doctor that know as much as most of us do about Celiac disease. I wish I had better news for you but that's just the way it is. What I'd suggest is joining a local Celiac support group (if you're lucky enough to have one in your area) and ask them who they see...

ARCHIVED Turning Vanilla Cake Into Chocolate
floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought some Dowd & Rogers dark vanilla cake mix. I wanted chocolate but they were out of it. Well I made cupcakes out of one box and though it has a great texture, there is some flavor in it I don't like - not the vanilla but some flour that's in it. The odd taste is faint so I think chocolate would overpower it which would be great. Is there a way... -
ARCHIVED Are There Any Foods At Mexican Restaurants That Are Generally Safe?
floridanative replied to Sarah8793's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I found the staff at my local cheap Mexican place are the most uninformed place I've been regarding Celiac/gluten. I had to insist the server took my gluten-free dining card back to the cook (manager was not in) when she insisted I could have the enchiladas. I knew they were corn tortillas but the sauce was the question. My book 'Let's Eat Out!' says to make... -
ARCHIVED Holidays Are Tough - Feeling Sorry For Myself
floridanative replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After being gluten free six months, I've learned not to expect anyone but my husband to consider my dietary needs/restrictions. This way, I'm not dissappointed when people are thoughtless. I'm lucky in that my SIL is very thoughtful so when we visited them this past weekend, there was plenty of food there for me to eat and the only thing we had at a meal... -
ARCHIVED Really Good Pasta
floridanative replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for telling me about Bionature. They have that at my Publix but only the glutenous kind. There is a health food store that carries their gluten free stuff so I'll give it a try. I'd like to keep from paying for shipping my food if possible. I can get 10 different kinds of Tinkyada pasta at Whole Foods but now that I had Bi-Aglut it just doesn't compare... -
ARCHIVED Oscal D For Osteopenia
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does anyone know if there are different types of magnesium supplements available? I can't take the magnesium I bought. It does not agree with my digestive system at all. I thought maybe I was getting glutened but then I stopped the magnesium and my symptoms stopped. Took it again and they came back...so I can not take what I have - Walgreen's cheap gluten... -
ARCHIVED Really Good Pasta
floridanative replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nope - no soy in my Bi-Aglut. You may have read on a site the old ingredients since I think it had soy until Feb. of this year. There is a disclaimer saying that the plant conditions regarding soy are unknown like they make something with soy there maybe. Since I don't avoid soy it doesn't affect me but for those of you who do, you could e-mail the company... -
ARCHIVED Silly Yak Bakery
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I will have to order some things from them when all my Chat. bakery stuff is gone. I'm picking up about a 2 month supply this weekend. -
ARCHIVED Really Good Pasta
floridanative replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't read the ingredients on the package - they are in Italian but it does have corn in it. I think it used to contain soy and that changed early this year. For the ingredients, go to one of the two websites listed above and you can see the ingredients in English. It puts Tinkyada to shame and I thought Tinkyada was great - before today. However, as it... -
ARCHIVED Really Good Pasta
floridanative replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I missed your post on this but I just had this pasta for the first time tonight. It was to die for delish! I can not believe it's gluten free. It seems to store for a long time so I'm going to try and buy a six month supply to save on the shipping per package. I so hope they make a fettucini! I only got spagetti and penne in case I didn't love it. Now I wish... -
ARCHIVED Silly Yak Bakery
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't want to start a new topic about this but I just had Bi-Aglut gluten free pasta for the first time. It is made in Italy. It is better than Schar brand which is also made in Italy. I got mine from allergygrocer.com (Miss Roben's) but several sites carry it. It is about twice the cost of Tinkyada and in my opinion well worth it! The best gluten-free...
