floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay - Atlantans here's your chance for yummy gluten free bread that's not frozen when you get it. Great Harvest in Chat. TN will ship on Tues. or Wed. only, the gluten free stuff they bake those days. Now their website is www.chattanoogabreads.com and they have a baking schedule posted each month. What I can't tell is what exactly is baked on Tues. and... -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
floridanative replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There probably are not many here that I have not learned something from....too many to remember and name even. But I have to single out two of you for special thanks. Nisla (nini) - who sent me to her GI who did my biopsy and dx'd me. Then she saved me the first few weeks going gluten-free as the doc didn't even give me the name of a dietician which Nisla... -
Yes - please tell us about the cin. rolls. I love Chebe pizza crust but the cin. buns from them were just awful. The birds and bunnies out back liked them though. They were like little rocks. My hubby tried to be nice and eat them and he got about three of them down but they were tiny and he could have eaten 10 if he'd liked them. Ick!

Okay people good news! Well I mean if you're interested in ordering from the gluten free bakery in Chat. I'm working with the corp. office to see if they can get the bakery owner (franchise) in Chat. to offer shipment that are only 1-2 days out from their location. You can find out what you are by calling 1-800 pick ups and telling them your zip code and... -

Yes Vincent - I thought of you and wondered how far you were. This place is so good I would totally drive up and back in a day just to load up things in a cooler to carry me over six months. But only IF I can't convince them to ship to me directly. -

Where the heck are all you Chattanoogans??? If you've been to this bakery, then you know how great their gluten-free stuff is. I'd like to get Atlantans interested in trying the bakery with the UPS ground service so please share your thoughts on the gluten-free bakery - even if you don't agree with me. Also, had my first pc. of really good toast today... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic, By Green & Jones
floridanative replied to GC1's topic in Publications & Publicity
For a dining/traveling guide book I highly recommend 'Let's Eat Out!' by Kim Khoeller. She lists ALL the allergens, not just gluten for those of you (and there seem to be many) with more than gluten to worry about. I am learning so much about food and what goes in it at restaurants all over the world. It's too big to take on vacation and lug around but you... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Question
floridanative replied to Lillyth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As a child my brother had what you are describing your son has. My Mother and I both have Celiac. My now grown brother still gets the rash (not as bad now) but has not been tested yet. Good luck to you and welcome! -

We went last Friday while visiting relatives and you will not believe how good their stuff is. I got two types of cookies, coffee cake, white sandwich bread (not pre-sliced), french bread loaf and garlic crisps. All for under $20. I'm trying to convince the home office to let that store (on E. Brainerd in Chat. TN) ship to Atlanta since it's a 1 day ship... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Dummies
floridanative replied to popoki321's topic in Publications & Publicity
Also I noticed the book has a terriaki sauce recipe that you use wheat free soy sauce for....I'm going to try it as I don't like the San-J terriaki sauce but I do like their gluten-free soy sauce. The book, like Guhlia mentioned has very useful information and it's in a much more fun format than Dr. Greens book. If you can only get one of them, this (dummies... -
10% of al infertile couples in the US has one partner with undx'd Celiac. The only way to get pregnant safely with Celiac is to be 100% gluten free. Once firmly on the diet it is common foer people to concieve in 6-12 months. Remember the male could have Celiac - not always the female. This info is proven and is listed in both Dana Korn's new book 'Gluten...

Thanks but I'm not in FL, only my family is and they are in Tall. where apparently there is NO doctor worth seeing regarding Celiac. When I was looking for a doc for Mother to get tested, no one on here could help so I had to find other forums to post my request. Most every response was the same - there is no decent GI doc in Tall. FL, and if you live there...

Well unfortunately my Mother went to some horrid GI and he told her that her Celiac panel positive test (ran by pcp) result does NOT mean she has Celiac and that it's very rare - blah blah. Only 1/1000 have it blah blah. When Mother told him according to the Univ. of Chicago Celiac Reserach Center 1 in 100 have it, his response was that's just a difference...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Dummies
floridanative replied to popoki321's topic in Publications & Publicity
My copy of GFL for Dummies arrived today and it looks terrific! Worth twice what I paid at least. I wish I didn't have to work today so I could just dive in. All I had time for was skimming the contents and it seems extremely easy to find just about anything you'd need to know about gluten and staying away from it. -
ARCHIVED Easter Brunch At Club
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wanted to report that despite the buffet NOT being marked in any way regarding gluten, I ate some things that the chef told me were gluten free and indeed they seemed to be. The way the food was set up it would be hard to mix up spoons but it would have been nice if he put all the gluten-free stuff together but nope that would have been too easy.... In any... -

ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselhoff - The View
floridanative replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm e-mailing Elizabeth at the View and asking her to please consider getting Dana Korn on to talk about her new book. Dana was on tv this morning in San Diego and did a great job on a very short segment. I was very impressed with her and she talks almost as fast as I do! -
www.kusi.com/news/goodmorning/2607731.html I'm not sure how to make this a link - sorry but it's a very good segment done the right way....now if we could just get a major network to have Dana on somehow...

ARCHIVED Easter Brunch At Club
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Found out the club actually marks the gluten free food on the buffet so I guess they don't understand cc issues..... They do make omelets at omelet station so I'll be fine with that, clean pan and all. I may try the salad with my own dressing as that's probably the least eaten item on buffet and there's nothing on that table that would cause cc. Also taking... -
ARCHIVED Easter Brunch At Club
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks everyone for the suggestions....umm I would never take my own food to the club but that's just me. I would not go if that was my only option. But I know they will make an omelet for me in a clean pan, and I'm sure the chef will offer a couple of other options he knows I can have as well. I'll stay away from the actual buffet and only have things I... -
We are going to our hubby's sisters this weekend. After Easter service we are all going to eat brucnch at her country club. The chef knows what is safe due to other Celiac members (yea!) but here is my question. Would you just order an omelet and not get anything from the buffet? I know they serve salad, cheese and safe eggs but that's about it. I can't...

ARCHIVED Georgia Restaurants
floridanative replied to annabell1320's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Do a google search with meetup.com/celiac and you should hit a group in Atlanta that gets together once a month to eat out around town gluten free. Their next dinner is in two this Thurs. I can't attend this month but there is no fee to join the group. If you decide to attend a dinner, you pay the meeting facilitator $2 and pay for your own meal. Finding... -
ARCHIVED Today Show Had Gluten Free Mac & Cheese
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well Patti - if I have to knock that wall down brick by brick that's what I'm going to do. I will not stop until every American has at least heard of Celiac disease and gluten. I'm stubborn and I do not give up on anything I really believe in. The word has to get out and it's only going to be done by us each doing our part to make it so. -
ARCHIVED Mrs. Leeper's/ Corn Rotelli
floridanative replied to skurtz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought both the Mrs. Leepers tuna helper and the chicken alfredo. It was not until I got them home I saw that the tuna product was had corn pasta in it, the chicken alfredo has rice pasta. We had the chicken dish at a support group which is why we looked for it as we really enjoyed it. But I wasn't impressed with the tuna dish so I think I just don't care...
