Thanks Angie! What a great idea....would never have thought of it. -
ARCHIVED What To Put Back In gluten-free Diet To Stay Healthy?
floridanative replied to Susan123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Bridge...thanks for the compliment! Glad I'm able to help someone after everyone has helped me so much. Saying thank you would never convey the support I've felt from most everyone on this board. Now I'm just trying to help my own Mother (dx'd Monday) to stick with the gluten-free diet. She's been sick for years so she probably won't feel better in two... -

Laura - where did you find the Glutino whole pizza and is it a rice crust? And do you need a bread machine for the Gluten Free Gourmet bread mix? I unlike others, am not crazy about Breads from Anna bread. I don't have a bread machine but most say it would take the same in the oven or bread machine. I just found out about the Williams and Sonoma bread machine... -
ARCHIVED A Great Viewpoint On Coping
floridanative replied to Nevadan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for posting this article. I am sending it to my Mother with Dr. Green's book today. She was dx'd Monday and she is already questioning the dx since she doesn't feel better....excuse me 'you've probably been sick for over 15 years....you're not going to feel better in 2.5 days on the gluten-free diet'. Can anyone tell me if you were sick for a long... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Broth
floridanative replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think wyler's was the one who told me it had gluten in it but since I threw it out, I could be mistaken. Campbell's will send you the list of all their gluten-free products - they own Swanson which I never knew before I went gluten-free. I think Tiffany is correct that their organic broth may be the one with gluten but I'm not certain. I get their canned... -
ARCHIVED Would You Eat Cheetos?
floridanative replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well the Celiac Program Univ. of Chicago basket they sent me post dx has a tiny bag of Cheetos in it! I had to laugh. I ate that bag but didn't try them again. But I did have Ruffles with no problems. And that Smart whatever white cheddar popcorn I agree is out of this world good. -
ARCHIVED Maggiano's In Atlanta
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well I did have non breaded calamari at some high end place in CA I think once and I loved it too. I would never have thought to ask for it at Maggiano's or anywhere else for that matter so thanks for telling me about it. BTW did you ever eat at a place in San Diego called Aqua Aldue (not correct spelling)? They have a famous blueberry sauce marinated... -

GFL e-mailed me and apologized that their winter issue hasn't been sent out yet...they are hoping to start getting them out this Friday. -

For those of you who need a canned cream of mushroom soup Progresso has a gluten free version...well it's their reg. soup but it's gluten free. Also, they are owned by Betty Crocker and they say that if any of their products have gluten it will be listed clearly as wheat, rye, barley or oats. Green bean casserole here I come....well as soon as I figure out... -
ARCHIVED Maggiano's In Atlanta
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Gosh Jen...wish you lived down the street cause I'd take that pasta off your hands! But I buy rice pasta as I think it's more healthy than corn pasta. But it's nice to know if I do want Italian food out every so often, I now have a place to go. Nini turned me on to making my own gluten-free mac & chs. They sell the Kraft mac & chs powered cheese... -
ARCHIVED Maggiano's In Atlanta
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Definitely go on your own and just make sure if you want pasta you call ahead and order it. The chef said they pretty much make everything there so they know exactly what is in their dresssings, sauces, etc. I feel they would be able to give you a lovely gluten-free/df (whatever free) meal. If you go to Buckhead, ask your server upon arrival if the chef Eric... -

Oh I didn't know about Pamela's bread mix. I made the Breads from Anna bread but it's too heavy/hard to slice for tea sandwiches I have to make this weekend. I'll get something frozen for them...kinikkinnik seems very popular. Then I'll make Pamela's bread next time I bake. Has anyone tried the frozen Glutano pizza crusts and if so are they good? I found... -
ARCHIVED Maggiano's In Atlanta
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh my....calamari....how wonderful! Thanks for the info! -
My support group is dining at Maggiano's in Atlanta next month. It is a set menu/price and seems like it would be good but I treasure my Saturdays so I wanted to make sure the food would be good before copmmitting to the event. I had a client lunch today and we chose to go to the other Atlanta Maggiano's location. I called ahead last week to pre-order the...

ARCHIVED How Long Did U Wait To Drink Alcohol Again
floridanative replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't have anything to drink for three weeks post dx. We went to dinner for val. day and that's when I tried some white wine. It was lovely and since I have wine when out or home and somtimes cosmos or appletinis at home (all with gluten-free mixes). I'm not giving up my wine or vodka unless under doctors orders. Gosh...I agree with the other posters.... -
ARCHIVED What About Martinis?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You made me LOL CeliaCruz - I forgot that something I was thinking of trying is to order vodka w/cranberry jc. and a slash of Sprite. As long as I can see the brands they use (ocean spray and sprite are gluten-free), that is close enough to a cosmo for me. Now I can't do that at the catered functions of course but most any bar will serve you a vodka/cranberry... -
Nutrisse told me their hair colors are gluten-free and I use them regularly with no problems. Even had really bad psoriasis pre gluten-free days and now after being gluten-free for only 7 weeks that has almost cleared up. I think my rx shampoos had gluten in them so I switched to Neutrogena t-get and everything got better almost immediately.

Wow thanks for all the info everyone...haven't heard of about several of these so I'll look for them. As of three hours ago I'm not the only Celiac in my family. My mother has it too...but her doc put her on a very restrictive diet to start as she's pretty sick. Her doc is a pcp and admits to knowing little about Celiac so she's been reading up on it (yea... -

floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So far I have found some things I really like a lot but I still haven't found/tried several things I need. I heard Progresso cream of mush. soup is gluten free but I haven't called them to verify so I haven't tried it. I know EnerG makes one soup but it cost an arm and a leg. I don't really like the EnerG tapioca bread so I'm getting the reg. sandwich bread... -
My huband and I frequent museum functions where the caterer serves appletinis, cosmos, etc as well as beer and wine. Most of the vodkas they offer are potato or corn based so they are gluten free. But the caterers don't know what's in the mixes....they just have large white bottle marked appletini or other flavors. I've called every manufacturer of all the...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Living Magazinine
floridanative replied to irish's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm asking for each magazine subscrition for Christmas this year. I already ordered GFL but decided to hold off of Living Without so someone else can pay for it. My Mother will get her Celiac test results any day now. If she has it, I'll get her one of the magazines for Mother's day. I think Living Without looks much sleeker than GFL as my dietician showed... -
I posted elsewhere about my Outback experience but it belongs here. We never went to our local OB pre Celiac dx. since we don't care for chain places in general. Now that I'm gluten-free we decided to try OB since it has the gluten-free menu. We were going a few weeks ago for dinner but we had a hectic day and the weather was yucky so I wanted just to get...

I e-mailed the company in mid Feb. to ask when the Winter edition was coming out and they replied very shortly...still don't have the Winter issue so I'm e-mailing them again since Jen got hers already. -
You are normal as are we. We are just different from a large part of the population. I feel lucky that I can't imagine ever wanting to cheat since gluten is poison to me. It would be the equivalent in my mind, of saying I just want to have a tiny bit of rat poison on my fish tonight. It's just not going to happen. I'm not neurotic and I'm extremely careful...

ARCHIVED More People Are Getting Tested For Celiac
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well the Celiac panel blood test is the best out there but for reasons I certainly don't understand it does miss a lot of Celiacs. In my case only 1 (tTg) of the 6 test results was high and it was barley positive for Celiac. Two of three docs told me I didn't have Celiac but the biopsy proved I did. So the new test that is being developed now is supposed...
