  1. I know it does, doesn't it? I'll post about it after I eat there....may try and go next weekend. I'm going stir crazy eating at home every day - that's for sure!
  2. Thanks so much....I think that is very close to where they are looking for the rental house. I appreciate your reply and help!
  3. Heather - I'm so sorry that you endured such a....... okay I'll call her an unenlightened friend....to be nice. If that were me I guess I'd have to leave her behind as life's too short to deal with people like that. I didn't even know Soledad was talking about Celiac on CNN so I'm going to their site now and I'll try and e-mail her as to how to pronounce...
  4. Bes is right! I never even knew I was walking around bloated 24/7 until I went off gluten. I was amazed that I had a waist! I'm small framed and petite so no one can tell I've lost weight but the scale and my clothes don't lie. And I have not gone hungry, just the opposite actually. I've never felt better in adulthood anyway. I thought my only real symptom...
  5. We have to visit there for a family obligation and we'll be in a house so we'll be able to make most of our own food. But we will need a night out away from family and kids so if anyone knows of a place near the beach that is NOT a chain and has gluten free menu options please let me know. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! We don't mind going someplace...
  6. I have already looked up the support group link celiac3270 posted (thanks celiac3270) but there is no group listed in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mabye the list isn't updated or something....does anyone know of such a group? I'm being forced to stay there for three nights by hubby (family obligation) and though we'll be in a house, I want to find a safe place to eat...
  7. This week's letter are S and T. Write whoever you want - snail mail or e-mail or both!!
  8. My neurologist told me to take Aleve due to nerve damage from bad shingles episode. Aleve is also gluten free. I'd add though that since I've been off gluten I have not had one headache (or any meds for pain). I'm sure they're in my future but I think gluten made me get headaches more often. Just another great reason to stick to my new diet and never look...
  9. Thanks again so much for your post about this place! I don't even like burgers that much and now I'm dying to try their burger on the gluten-free bun!!! How cool is that?! The woman in the home office told me that they worked really long and hard perfecting the bun. I'm not expecting a miracle but it will be worth a try!! Plus they have yummy looking gluten...
  10. Lisa - I'm sorry that happened to you. My first gluten-free meal at someone's home isn't until next month when a close friend has her 40th b-day tea party. I have to take my own tea sanwiches, scones, and lemon curd needless to say. She has safe tea, honey and champagne but she is having the food part catered so she called the lady making the food to ask...
  11. Thanks Jen! I ordered my dressing from GFP yesterday along with their gluten-free teriaki sauce. I got three types of Annie's dressings to see which ones I like and I'll order larger quantities to stock up once I've tasted them. I'll check out the travel bottle of soy sauce but I'm thinking it requires refrigertation. If not, I'll get it for sure! Thanks...
  12. Wow - then you had it worse than we did, bless your heart! I thought switching from going out twice a week was bad enough. I'm starting to actually open some cookbooks I used only as decor on my kitchen shelf until recently. There are a lot of great menu ideas that can be adapted to gluten free if they aren't just gluten free already. It's just that when...
  13. Thanks for posting this kevsmom. I might surprise my hubby with take out from there this week!
  14. Thanks for all the great tips Jen! I already told my hubby he will now be taking a carry on bag for all plane rides with me....to hold all my food! I'll ask him for the car cooler for my b-day, great idea too! Now do you know if Bragg's soy sauce comes in packets too? I think this might be a great idea for me. Once city we'll be in is very aware of Celiac...
  15. I have contacted Wildfire via e-mail and the Atlanta location will be at Perimeter and is set to open in Oct. this year. I mentioned to the woman in Chicago that since I know they haven't trained all the staff yet (too early to hire everyone) that when training the cooks and servers they should tell them to think of gluten as rat poison since that's what...
  16. Get out!!!! I can not believe this....I'm so excited! Another place called Seasons 52 is opening near me in early summer and another in town in early Fall. They have their gluten-free menu items on the servers PDA's. Someone on this board told me about the Orlando place as she was already gluten-free at the time but I was not. Seasons 52 had become her fave...
  17. Oh I'm so excited to hear about your trip! Napa is one of my favorite places and I'd retire there IF I could afford it. I've printed this info for next visit there. Thanks again!
  18. Welcome Sarah - we're glad you found the board! I'm a newbie to the diet and after my biopsy I asked my Mother to get tested. She says she will (been looking for what's wrong for over two years to no avail) but she recently had a beach vacation and she also has a cruise coming up in the summer so I'm looking for that to be her next excuse as to wait to get...
  19. Is Wildfire a national chain or local restaurant? I have never heard of it. Glad you had such a great experience eating out!
  20. Thanks tiffjake (I'm another Tiffany on here but not the one who's a really good cook). I know exactly what you mean about being kitchen challenged. My hubby used to be a chef so he has done 99% of the cooking at home for 16+ years. Now that we don't eat out twice a week, I've had to start helping with meals since I have more time right now for it than he...
  21. Thanks so much pixiegirl!! I ordered my dressing packets and the teriaki sauce from the GFP . And I've been looking all over for packets of honey to buy for an upcoming trip. They have Sue Bee honey (naturally gluten-free) on the minimus.biz site. Also, on that site the kraft dressings are less than Annies from GFP so I may see which ones are gluten-free...
  22. I'm a newbie so I'm sure there will be tons in it that I don't know yet. My copy shipped Thurs. so it should be here Tues. I'll report back the difference between it and Wheat-Free, Worry-Free which is the only other general book on Celiac I've read so far.
  23. Since going off gluten I have artichokes every other day or so but I'm eating the canned variety. I put them in salads, eat them plain for a snack and sautee them in garlic as a side dish. Do you think that if they are canned they still have some helpful things in them?
  24. No - USA *didn't eat them before though
  25. tiffjake - where do you get them and are they already made or do you bake them like the Pamela's mix? I love Pamela's but it's made with dark choc. I didn't know that before it was too late. I can eat them but I was left with a whole pan of brownies that my poor hubby can't eat (boo hoo he can eat gluten) as he's allergic to dark and bittersweet choc. only...
