  1. Had to have some bloodwork done at LabCorp instead of docs office. The lady who drew the blood asked me about my book (Dr. Green's) and I told her I had Celiac and she said that she was doing many more Celiac panels in the last month or so. I thought that was interesting and I know the old blood panel is flawed but at least it means the docs are ordering...
  2. I'm taking Culturelle - sold at CVS and Walgreens here. They require no refridgeration which is what I need. I can't always have a fridge when traveling. I thought it was unimportant to take them so I was glad to hear the nutritionist explain that they do indeed help a healing Celiac. I figure it's worth trying for six months until my first blood work for...
  3. Well since I started this thread I thought you'd all get a kick out of what I found out. My sister's ped doc apparently thought the old Celiac panel blood test was the latest and greatest test around. Whaaaaaaaa???!! As Dr. Green stated, the new blood test is not available yet but should replace the biopsy once it's released. For some reason, they don't...
  4. Patti - I'm so happy to hear about your informative and productive allergist appt. I was allergic to so much as a child but I did grow out of the food stuff (was never told not to eat wheat, ha ha) but never grew out of allergies to the pollen, most everything that grows outside really. My allergies are much better now than when I was in my 20's and 30's...
  5. I presented out of the blue at 41 with anemia.....then very infrequently had the following symptoms over the course of the last year before my Celiac dx. abdominal pain/bloating (looked 6 months pregnant) nausea when eating severe stomach aches (could not stand up straight) *all gone now off gluten 6 weeks And during last month pre dx I also ...
  6. To answer the question about shingles all I know is this. It took three docs in ten days to figure out I had it. I did not fit the over 50 profile since I was only 40. After the shingles dx I read about it online and found out it presented in otherwise healthy people sometimes If they had an autoimmune disease. So I go to the neuro doc for pain relief (thought...
  7. I think for someone who is newly dx'd with Celiac this book is a must read. It's not full of funny anecdotes like Wheat-Free, Worry-Free to say the least. But so far this is the first book I've been able to find and take in to my doctor to tell what deficiencies I needed to be tested for. My idiot GI said to call him in six months for another biopsy and hung...
  8. CMCM is right about that book...it is wonderful. eeyor fan posted about it in Nov. on this site. It even has an idea for french gluten-free dining cards to use in france....I didn't notice until after I order the Triumph dining cards, they don't have a french one in the set. Most of all it just shows how different we all are and what we have in common too...
  9. Shelley Case's follow up book will be coming out this year. I'm trying to wait for it but I'm getting impatient.
  10. Well Dr. Peter Green's assistant got back to me and her e-mailed stated she was quoting the Dr. directly. He says the newest test he knows of is a new anti gliadin antibody test. It is supposed to be way more reliable than the old test. He feels sure it is not avialable at this time. He did not give a name or say who makes it.
  11. Welcome Brandon and we don't mind guys chiming in unless a thread says 'ladies only' and then I think if you post there you can be reported to the administrator. That said, thank you for your post and I know I was very surprised that both men and woman Celiacs can be infertile and once off gluten BOOM they get pregnant in six months or so. Totally amazing...
  12. Okay here is another one for you. Got my hair cut, had my Celiac book since I often have to wait. Not today, no wait and no one coming after me to my stylist - totally odd. So she asks what is Celiac and I tell her. I mention it's genetic and that my sister's ped. is a jack*** since he's putting off testing my nephew and blah blah. So the girl asks me what...
  13. I e-mailed her to thank her too.....but I didn't think to correct her. As always you on top of things Nisla.
  14. Only gluten for almost six weeks. I'm glad my family is 5 hours away. They would never understand you can't just pick the coutons off a salad. I don't think it would matter if I told them ten times it was like poison, some of them just wouldn't get it. I think it makes family members really uncomfortable for many reasons. They don't want you to be really...
  15. I don't get the paper on weekdays but a friend told me about the article. If you go to www.ajc.com you can view it for free (think for 7 days). You click on living, then food and drink and then the article is about half way down the page. It lists the non-profit Celiac sites and some of the online gluten-free food sites as well!
  16. Gosh I'm late in posting but my friend is seeing a Celiac specialist in two weeks. I'm so thankful I talked to her. Thanks to those who encouraged me to do so. It's hard since you don't want to alienate your freinds but this was too important not to tell her. If she doesn't have it great! If she does she should know before it's too late.
  17. First of all Nisla...you make me laugh!!! Of course I agree with everything you said. Karen - good idea about sending the thread but first I want to see what her response is to the very no nonsense e-mail I just sent her at the end of the day. I made it perfectly clear that I can guarantee this doc is not Celiac wiz and her son needs testing and it's not...
  18. I can't thank all of you enough for your responses...I wanted to get my ducks in a row before telling my sister the doc does not know what the heck he's doing with regards to Celiac. I will summarize your comments and send her a detailed e-mail. With two screaming kids in the background a long distance phone call will not suffice. I never thought of the juv...
  19. Being the only dx'd Celiac in my family, I anxious for other family members to get tested. So far my Mother is trying to get tested this week. But my sister has a 3yo that seems to have some symptoms of Celiac...she thought he was just lactose intolerant but taking out that lactose didn't clear everything up. So she goes to her ped. and tells him she thinks...
  20. That is soooooooo odd. Okay in Dr. Green's new book he says the new test is a rapid finger prick test and that it will be available soon. Obviously he did not write the book two weeks ago so I'm sure it's the same test but I don't know if we should be telling family members who are willing to be tested to just ask for the ripid finger prick Celiac test or...
  21. Robbin - I'm happy to report that my doctor did not get offended in the least when I gave her a print out of an informative article on Celiac. Plus I wrote very large on the back of the pages the name of Dr. Green's book. I explained that the first line of defense is the pcp and since they have little or no training, this is why so many Celiacs are missed...
  22. Ditto to everything munchkineete said. This book led me to help a friend ask her doc for a Celiac test. She has way too many symptoms not to at least rule out Celiac. Well instead of laughing at her, he doc referred her to Dr. Cynthia Rudert in Atlanta. I'm very interested to see if Dr. Rudert will use the brand new Celiac blood test or not. All I know is...
  23. Yeah there is a new test for sure. But I was under the impression that it would be available in the US a little later this year. But since the ped. doc in FL already used it two weeks ago and told my sister all about it and that it blows the old test away regarding accuracy (which is what I'd heard too from the Celiac expert I saw speak in early Feb.). I...
  24. I knew there was a new very reliable blood test coming out for Celiac testing and that it should eventually replace the gold standard of the biopsy for dx. But some doc in FL used it recently to dx his daughters friend from school. My sister found out but forgot to ask the doc the name of the test and I really want my Mother to have the new test if possible...
  25. My Publix gluten-free product list finally arrived....only took 27 days. They list their taco seasoning as gluten free so we got it today. It is even easy to read the label and there are no hidden type ingredients from what we can tell.
