  1. Thanks Armetta. We were so tired by the time dinner time came around we just wanted to get take-out from Outback. We couldn't let them bring the food to the car (since it's too hard to check the salad for croutons and send it back inside) so my hubby hopped out of the car to go in and I just parked in the take out lane...it was nasty out... ick. I started...
  2. Thanks armetta...I need to get that small guide to then. I don't carry a big purse either. And it wasn't my first dining experience gluten free. It was my first business lunch post dx. And without those I can't afford to pay for all my new very expensive food! Since we dine out less now (to say the least) we can't complain that we have to pay more to eat...
  3. Today was my first client lunch out since my dx. It was fabulous though I could not get to have my fave jap. cheese grits...they use flour to thicken. But I ate over four hours ago and I'm feeling great! I found out that I do know when I get glutened so I'm glad for that. Had one cracker that I thought was gluten-free but it wasn't. The bloating it caused...
  4. Lynne - I'll keep you in my prayers for sure. I'm so sorry to hear of even more bad things happening to you. You must be such a strong person to get through this and you are an inspiration to me. What a brave person to deal with what's been handed you and still you think of reaching out to help others. Thank you for your unending kindness.
  5. Thanks marciab. I agree it can't hurt and thanks for telling me about the FL status of dr. excused school absences. I don't know if my sister is aware of that but I'm guessing she's not. I appreciate your reply so much.
  6. I have not seen medical evidence that kids who get tons of viruses could have Celiac but I just found out that my neice is about to be pulled from 4K school due to too many sick days. She catches every virus she's exposed to. Her own toddler brother doesn't even catch them all from her that he's exposed to. My sister is seeing the ped. next week to tell him...
  7. Thank you Robbin and you're right. I'm going to copy the six pages of the Fertility section of Dr. Green's book and give them to my friend. Then I'll tell her the truth - that I love her too much not to share this very interesting information. Thanks for making me feel okay about doing it.
  8. I was shocked to learn that one of the most missed groups ouf Celiacs who seem otherwise asymptomatic is idiopathic infertility...apparently it can affect both men and woman with Celiac. Once such a person gives up gluten it somewhat common for them to get pregnant even when $30K in fertility treatments don't do the trick. Infertility docs don't get ANY training...
  9. Thanks so much covsooze. I figure it worth investigating since no one else seems to get sick all the time and the ped. is not much help at this point. It seems my 4yo neice is going to the doctor all the time and her 3yo brother is exposed to her every time she's sick and he rarely catches whatever she has which sort of make no sense unless her immune system...
  10. Okay I am trying to help my sister here. She knows that she and her kids are at risk now for having Celiac due to my dx. However, though her son shows some signs that may indicate he has it (or lactose intolerance at least) her daughter has no GI symptoms but catches every virus in the world. The doc says this is normal for a kid who's spent her life at home...
  11. My Mother has agreed to get tested for Celiac (yea!) but her pcp wants to send her to a GI for the test. No problem but we want to tell the pcp which doctor to refer her to. Does anyone know of a good GI or any type doctor in Tall. that knows anything about Celaic? I have searched three different forums and nothing is coming up about any doctor in Tall. ...
  12. Guhlia - you are so right!!! At my last support group meeting they had larabars out for us to try. They flew off the table so we only got to try the apple pie. My husband loved it but I told 'him hands off you can have anything you want'. Those things are wonderful!
  13. My 'Let's Eat Out! book by Kim Koeller arrived today and I can not believe how great it is. Obviously I have not read it all yet but I have read enough to know that it's very easy to read and comprehend and to use her techniques to eat out safely regardless of where you go in the world. I understand that many of you don't care to go out so I'm not suggesting...
  14. Well celiac3270 said it better than I could have. It is technical but that's what I need as I have no doctors that know squat about what I should be tested for (bone density, thyroid, ect.) as it relates to Celiac. I'm thrilled to find easy to understand medical info in Dr. Green's book! It's quite fascinating to me actually. Also, in the back Dr. Green...
  15. Just found out yesterday that K.C. Masterpiece Original bbq sauce is gluten free. Oh and they only use wheat when it comes to gluten so all their sauce and marinades will list wheat if gluten is present. If it doesn't way wheat - it's gluten free and they do not hide gluten in terms of 'natual or art. flavors. This is coming from Unilever rep.
  16. Hi Kat and welcome! There is a support group website that is for parents of kids with Celiac disease. I never visited it as I don't have kids but I assume they would have a ton of helpful info for you. www.celiackids.com You can do this it just takes some effort to learn how and a positive attitude. This board will be invaluable to you. Also, look...
  17. Oh thanks for taking the time to post your new info Lynne! I found a dietician who may know more about the gluten free diet than me but if she doesn't, at least she used to be a chef so part of her service is giving me gluten free menu ideas. She can't see me until March 4th though as she works part time since she had her second baby. None of the other so...
  18. I too am in need of 'the gluten guy of Tallahassee's' help. I've never heard of him before reading this post but my Mother is getting tested for Celiac next week and if she has it, I need to point her in the direction of help down in FL. If no one knows 'the gluten guy' from Tall., do any of you know if there is a support group for Celiacs there? Or even...
  19. No I couldn't find a link so I just told them Soledad had mispronounced Celiac that morning. I never said I actually saw her do it.
  20. There is NOTHING to be embarrassed about. A ten year old could read about Celiac for an hour online and know more about it than your idiot doc. I thought I had convinced my overwieght mom to get tested and along comes an aunt (by marriage) that none of like telling my mother 'you're too fat to have Celiac' or something to that effect. This least favorite...
  21. Oh have I got a place for you in Orlando. I think it's on International but if it's not it's only like two blocks off it. We went in Jan but I was eating normally then. However, someone on this board told me about it and they were gluten-free already. The place is Seasons 52 (www.seasons52.com) and they don't have printed gluten free menus but the servers...
  22. Sorry to go off subject but I did e-mail CNN last night and told them to tell Soledad and everyone else there how to say Celiac and that there was no H in the word.
  23. Every post above is dead on. You have a positive test by how your feel. I too lost inches in my waist when I stopped ingesting gluten. It was amazing. Plus the latest protocol on biopsies is that 6 to 8 samples are needed for correct result. My doc took two samples which is what most docs do. This way they are missing tons of Celiac dx's. Just say no to gluten...
  24. Thank you for the nice comment. I actually had constant extreme pain (shingles was misdiagnosed twice as a muscle spasm...so I started the meds too late) that lasted almost three weeks before I finally got in to see the neuro doc. He started me on Neuronton that night. Within two weeks I knew I'd live. Before that I thought no one would be expected to live...
  25. Update on some family members. I just found out that my nephew has some symptoms of either lactose intolerance or Celiac. My sister thought he was just lactose intolerant since he was a baby (he's 3 now) but since he's been lactose free all his symptoms did not go away. I've never heard about any of this until today. Next week the whole family is starting...
