ARCHIVED I Shouldn't Be Excited
floridanative replied to Timber4est's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah Nisla - is your hubby an artist? That is so thoughtful of him. Patti and Jen - I watch the repeats of SATC on TBS all the time. They're toned down of course but I find them entertaining none the less. -
ARCHIVED I Shouldn't Be Excited
floridanative replied to Timber4est's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow - and here I thought I'd win best Celiac hubby contest. Mine brought home roses last night (couldn't get them today). Then I almost cried when I saw a jar of lemon curd on the counter this morning after he'd already left for work. I was so upset that I have to take my own scones and tea sandwiches to a tea party next month and my normal lemon curd is... -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Take My Daughter? We're In Al....
floridanative replied to TCA's topic in Doctors
I do think Dr. Rudert sees some kids in Atlanta but the problem with her is she see patients 10% of the time and travels the other 90%. And she does not accept insurance. Keeps her admin. cost down and of course if she's traveling around trying to educate docs about Celiac, she probably doesn't care if she gets tons of new patients since she probably couldn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cruise
floridanative replied to Timber4est's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Wow Deborah! This is awesome and I love the logo. I couldn't view them for some reason so I didn't vote but what was chosen is prefect!!! Please post when the actual sign up section and cabin options will be up and running. I already told my hubby we're going on a Celiac cruise instead of to Alaska and he's all for it. I agree that no one is going to want... -
ARCHIVED Traveling To France & Germany
floridanative replied to tanyad's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Tanya - have a wonderful trip and please post when you get back any places your may find in Paris that you felt safe eating at. I'm going over later this year and I'm pretty concerned myself. Hope you have a fantastic time! -
Rachel - wow I hope you're finally on the road to feeling great! You sure are a trooper and an inspiration to the rest of us. You should pat yourself on the back! You are doing everything in your power to get better instead of giving up. I'm so happy to hear you've kept your bubbly attitude through all this. Have a most wonderful Valentine's Day my dear.

Vincent is one of the most helpful and considerate men on this board in my opinion. I would bet good money that he did not mean to be rude in any way. That's not who he is. He's helped me and others many times and I'm sure he'll help me and anyone else who needs help in the future.

The Celiac expert (consulted with Dana Korn for Wheat-free, Worry-free) I saw speak two weeks ago said that one of the most overlooked groups of undiagnosed Celiacs are those with infertility problems. There is no mention of Celiac diesease in the training of fertility specialists so they have no way of thinking to test their patients for Celiac. IF someone...

ARCHIVED How Long Will My gluten-free Baked Goods Keep?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well I had good reason to try and do my best on the diet as I was tested for two cancers before getting the Celiac dx. I'm a huge baby when it comes to being sick and I have the lowest pain threshold in the world. The thought that not sticking to the diet could cause me to get cancer and have to endure chemo was enough to scare me straight. Plus I did my... -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive Test
floridanative replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Only my tTg was high and it was first a 10 and then a 7 which is actually very low. My report said 5-9 is weak positive and 10> was positive. Two of three docs said I didn't have Celiac or problems with gluten. Biopsy showed signigicant villi damage blah, blah. I finally found out the the tTg is many times the first test to show a problem and it's 98%... -
ARCHIVED Thank You And Migraines
floridanative replied to Faithperson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was intrigued by this title. My husband's ex-boss had to go on disibility due to severe migraines after missing so much work for two years. The last time we saw him (Dec. 2004) he kept his leather jacket on inside the house but I knew he was as thin as a rail even with his thick jacket on. To find out what was bringing on the migraines the doctor made him... -

Indeed it is Jessica! I love the book and thanks for sharing your story and recipe in it!!! You give newbies like me hope that we can do this gluten free thing. -
Thanks so much for your reply Lynne. It did help a lot. I realize that this new life is just going to take more work on my part to get the best healthcare I can and I just have to do it and try not to whine about it. The GI's nurse called to say that the GI should be able to call in an rx at least by tomorrow and he will note that I should not be switched...

ARCHIVED Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Publications & Publicity
ms_sillyak_screwed has a very good point - it is certainly easier for a producer to delete all our e-mails in an instant. We'd make much more of an impact say if we all agreed to mail a real letter to the show on the same day, yes they'd all arrive on different days but many would arrive each day for a week or so if we would all agree to do it. Problem is... -
Back in Nov. I had a test to check for folic acid levels called a homocystene test. This was at my dad's dr.'s suggestion after his bypass heart surgery. It took me nine months to get the test done by BC/BS. So my pcp calls me with the results in Dec. and says it's a good idea to take a folic acid rx. I'm in the middle of all this Celiac testing at the time...

ARCHIVED Anyone In France?
floridanative replied to DonnaD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks again DILIROTH! I realize that I can not enjoy all the great food Paris has to offer but that will never change now so I may as well go and make the most of it. Now that I feel so good on the gluten-free diet, I don't think I'll get depressed over there seeing all I can't have. I'm trying to look at gluten as rat poison and I don't ever want to ingest... -
ARCHIVED How Long Will My gluten-free Baked Goods Keep?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks armetta! After checking the website and calling the company I found out not only do they offer gluten-free lemon curd, they apparently have it at my Whole Foods (Harry's). Since I already have to take my own gluten-free tea sandwices and scones to a b-day tea party next month, I really don't want the hassle of making my own lemon curd as well. Oh this... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease In Marie Claire Magazine!

Thanks Moongirl. I'm going to look for the magazine today. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Accuracy
floridanative replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not even a mother at all but I have to second what nini said. I was almost asymptomatic and I knew it would be almost impossible for me to stick to the gluten-free diet without a firm dx so I had the biopsy. Also, I wanted to have proof so maybe eventually my family members would get tested. Now that the dx is in my files, I have to worry if it will... -
ARCHIVED Anyone In France?
floridanative replied to DonnaD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh my goodness - thanks for the great info everyone! I feel better already. I love fruits, seafood and salads and will take my own dressings, in addition to Larabars and gluten-free crackers and such. Regarding reading the labels in the stores you mentioned - I don't speak french and I'm trying to learn basic phrases now via tapes. But what is the word for... -
ARCHIVED How Long Will My gluten-free Baked Goods Keep?
floridanative replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
jnifred - thanks for that link. That line is owned by Smuckers. I just got off the phone with them. They know there is no wheat in their lemon curd but are in the process of checking to see which of their products is gluten free so they can add that to their labels. So in the near future we should be able to pick up their products and actually see gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cruise
floridanative replied to Timber4est's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I forgot to mention that for the dietician it would be great to get Shelly Case. Also for those not inclined to cruising there is a Celiac conference open to doc and patients this Nov. and it's being put on by Univ. of Col. in NYC. celiac3270 probably knows how to add up all the links (if you don't mind celiac3270). We can't make it this year but we're... -
ARCHIVED How Long Will My gluten-free Baked Goods Keep?
floridanative posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay I stocked up on more baked goods than I ever ate before my dx. But I just want it here in case I get a hankering for it. I have some raisin pecan bread, some type of biscuits and some scones. I have freezer packs of two (of eah item) and then those small bags are in a large zipper bag. Since I'm the only one who'll be eating most of this stuff, how long... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cruise
floridanative replied to Timber4est's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Deborah - you are woderful to think of this. I would not be interested in more than a 7 night trip. I'm guessing this would work best for more people who may be on more of a budget than others. Also, if we pre-book a cruise with a large group we should get a substantial discount which you may have mentioned and I missed it (not time to read everything tonight... -
ARCHIVED Anyone In France?

sasha1234 - can you please advise of any restaurants in Paris that are friendly to Celiacs - if there are any I mean? I'm getting a little nervous about an upcoming trip that we decided not to cancel since it's been planned for two years. I'm taking a whole extra suitcase with gluten-free foods but I have to find out exactly what France allows in the coutry...
