  1. One other thing that helped me a lot when I first had to do my gluten-free grocery shopping was a gluten-free grocery shopping guide. I use this one: Open Original Shared Link I haven't tried the other one or two that are out there, I am sure they work just as well. It helps a lot while you get used to brands and their labeling practices, etc. and when...
  2. Hi Msafford! The original post here was 4 years ago, so the product information may have changed since then. Especially if you use the search function to see if something is safe or not, take a look at the date. Of course even if you are new here the one thing drilled into your head is "read every label every time." So hopefully you already did But I...
  3. Last night I made this recipe http://userealbutter.com/2011/02/07/quinoa-mushrooms-kale-recipe/ just by itself, it is mushrooms and kale sauteed with quinoa. I used about a third of the fat she did though. Tonight is gonna be baked chicken leg quarters with... something... maybe sweet potatoes.
  4. Today I made tacos for lunch and for dinner I am going to test out my new Cuisinart Griddler countertop grill, recommended by Adalaide Went to BB&B yesterday and with their 20% coupon it was the same price as the big A online store. Going to make boneless pork chops for its inaugural run, with sweet potatoes and green beans on the side. I also...
  5. This. Try to think empathetically in other people's shoes. Now that others have said it, it does sound a lot like a marketing research grab or are you possibly trying to write a paper and need help or something to plagiarize off of? I just threw in my snarky "I wish the whole world was gluten-free" reply because I felt bad you have no responses. You...
  6. I like the kettle corn ones. But I like popchips better.
  7. Hi Deekle and welcome! Please do me a favor and enjoy your donuts for me when on your gluten challenge And let us know how it all goes! Hopefully being on the patient end will help you in your future career
  8. Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only person in the world who is allergic to rabbits. Mine goes to mild anaphylaxis, though. I guess that can't really be mild but never had my throat totally close up, LOL. So I avoid bunnies. They are all over our area and eat the weeds in my yard and entertain my cat when she sits in the window so as long as they stay...
  9. There are a lot of things that can cause weird pains in the chest area. Definitely let your doctor know. Ever had GERD or gallbladder issues?
  10. I would like the gluten free gods to wave their magic wand and I could magically go anywhere and eat anything. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen so I think awareness and education of everyone is the key to more safe dining options.
  11. It is not like she is forcing her to eat gluten. They want to respect each others needs, which are hard to deal with together. She can't cook without cross contamination in their kitchen, and they don't want non-kosher food contaminating their kosher kitchen. Easiest solution is to bring a pre-prepared meal from a place that is also kosher. Just like...
  12. Came home from my thing with my sister and my crock pot beans had burnt... I must have not added all the water in my hurry earlier today. So.... yeah... sad panda.
  13. Hahahaha, you sound like me! I checked it out online and I think I am going to get it. The Big A has it for $80, and bed bath and beyond has it for $99 and I can use my 20% off coupon to make it the same price, so I am going to try to make it out to a BB&B this week. I like that it folds out to a griddle, I don't have a griddle and have always wanted...
  14. In November we stayed at a hotel that had a Baja Fresh near it. I looked it up and was able to find something that said their meat was not safe. They must have changed their recipe since you first started dining there, really sucks But I do agree, low wage line cooks and workers are not going to have your back, unfortunately. Your chances are better...
  15. Oooh I like that one! If you cook something that a lot of fat comes off of, like burgers, does it drain off the fat into something or a certain spot?
  16. I agree with this. Just reserve some marinade before putting the meat in it and put it in a cup in the fridge. Even if you heat it enough to kill bacteria, there will still be endotoxins that make you sick if there was a plethora of bacteria in it in the first place. Also putting too much marinade on the meat is a waste of marinade. Heat up the reserved...
  17. Ah yes I was about to say Amys as well. A lot of the brands that do gluten-free certification will also do kosher certification if also applicable, I notice it a lot. There are a few Kosher certification Logos, the most common I see are a U inside a circle, and a K inside a star. Just google "Kosher certified logo" and you will see the most common ones...
  18. Wanted to add a little more. Immunodeficiencies in general can cause false positives on biopsies when an endoscopy is done to look for celiac disease. So in the event Celiac is suspected be very careful to not get a false positive. They initially thought my celiac disease was possibly a false positive when I later was diagnosed with the immunodeficiency...
  19. Hey Kmtyn, has your son seen a specialist yet? Hopefully they sent you to an immunologist. I somehow missed this thread earlier but I found out as an adult that I have common variable immunodeficiency with low IGG and IGA. They make a medicine to supplement IGG if you are too low, but I am not sure what the numbers should be at someone his age so not sure...
  20. LOL W8in, sorry you have to be the guinea pig but glad you posted feedback... when I saw recipe that I wondered why the peas weren't cooked. Yesterday I made chicken broccoli rice casserole, today I made grilled chicken with asparagus and rice. My george foreman grill seems to have crapped out on me and only the top burner heated up. Need to look around...
  21. Remember that anyone with an advanced degree from ANY institution (not necessarily an accredited one or reputable one-you can go buy a degree from overseas on the internet) can call themselves Dr. Name.
  22. Looking at that list and being from Dallas/Fort Worth... Texas de Brazil is great for gluten-free stuff, all their meats and their tapioca cheese rolls, mashed potatoes, and bananas that go on the table, and most of the salad bar is gluten-free. Down side is it is $50 per person for dinner. However their lunch is usually half the price. Saltgrass steakhouse...
  23. On tuesdays I have to eat a large meal to take my methotrexate (for lupus) with, timing falls at breakfast. Ate a banana, an Amys gluten-free Burrito, and some nuts. I eat a banana every day, Im a monkey at heart!
