  1. This is a must read for anyone with food intolerances and arthritis! Open Original Shared Link
  2. I react to goat's milk just like regular milk. I might try it again after 6 months on SCD but for now, it just makes me feel bad.
  3. I just got a diagnosis of Anklosing Spondylitis and my rhuematologist mentioned he thought it was associated wtih leaky gut, which could be caused by celiac disease. I was so surprised because I didn't expect a "mainstream" doctor to acknowledge leaky gut syndrome. He says the drug sulfasalazine should help with that and my various joint pains. I'm just...
  4. coconut milk yogurt is not a must. You could try almond milk. I think she has it laid out in her book how to make almond milk. Don't use store bought almond milk, it has sugars that are not allowed. I think she mentions in the book you can use probiotics if you can't manage yogurt.
  5. I love this explanation of the SCD diet. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Hey Aethenea! Fancy meeting you here! Some people are intolerant of rice and soy. The best diet I've found for my gut is SCD. Basically I eat meat and non-starchy veggies primarily, a little fruit. I'm slowly trying to add new foods and finding lots of things not making my gut happy: chocolate, almonds. :\ Also, you could have an intestinal infection...
  7. Yes, meat is fine. Eggs too. The thing to avoid is starches and anything with added sugar or corn syrup. The grape juice is all right as long as it has nothing added to it like sugar of high fructose corn syrup.
  8. Be forewarned that SCD requires you pretty much prepare all your foods from scratch. It is definitely time consuming! I just do all my cooking on the weekends.
  9. Yeah! That'll work. You can also do things like poach pears. I saw Alton Brown do it on good eats once, looked awesome! Of course, he used a cordless drill to get the core out of it while leaving the stem on. It was hilarious!
  10. Coconut milk is coconut meat and water, that is all. I get a brand that is great from Trader Joe's.
  11. There are a couple actually: One is at www.sweetzfree.com and the other... I'll have to look. It's just water and sucralose with maybe citric acid as a preservative. Ok, the other is at locarber.com. Ugh, looks like locarber.com is out of business now. Another possible option is Erythritol, if you want to avoid honey. It is absorbed and excreted primarily...
  12. Here's a link to a thread about non-dairy yogurt making. Open Original Shared Link
  13. Open Original Shared Link Flax seed Flax seed is illegal. From Elaine: "lignin is found when the whole seed (and its stiff coat) are ground up. I think it is harmful for people just starting out on SCD. I think some bacteria feast nicely on lignin - it is tough like bark."
  14. Glad you like it! I've been enjoying it too. I sort of invented the recipe. Well, actually I stole the idea from someone that was yogurtizing cashew milk. I figured almost anything could be yogurtified. I'm going to try to make almond milk next and yogurt it up! Actually, the cashew milk sounds good to me too!
  15. Yeah, if you don't buy the convience foods you'll save a lot of money and probably be a lot healthier in the long run. If you really need to eat the starchy stuff you could mill your own flour. The mill will cost a bit to start with, but if you do a lot of that sort of baking you could probably recoup your money reasonably fast.
  16. Salton is fine. That's what I use. I might rig up something with a heating pad if I want to make bigger batches.
  17. There's a doctor that has been studying the neurological effects of gluten intolerance in certain people. They'll actually show up with brain lesions on autopsy and not have villi damage, but have wheat specific IgA damage in their intestines. So they're people who are severly afflicted by gluten but it wouldn't be identified by an intestinal biopsy. ...
  18. That's exactly what I do! I make smoothies out of mine, or use it as a sauce on berries.
  19. Can you check out the book from the library? Failing that, the web sites are pretty good.
  20. It is to get the bacteria in ya. I let mine go for 24h because I like that tangy taste, also I didn't want to have much honey left over. Ok, I make my Lemon Curd like this. I use liquid splenda (search on google) for it but you could use honey. 5 eggs Sweetener equivalent to about 1 cup of sugar (taste it to see) 1/2 cup of lemon juice ...
  21. It has to set up a good 8 hours. This time I used only 3/4ths of a packet and it is still a little soupy. I'm still adjusting the gelatin trying to figure it out. You get too much and its like jello. I had some of my semi-soupy coco-yo on some berries and topped it with some "lemon curd". Fantastic!
  22. I haven't tried it with almond milk. But I just bought almond and intend to try it. That link I posted gave my method for making non-dairy yogurt and there are instructions on how to make nut milks too.
  23. I can't even touch most of these weird food combinations! I've always loved peanut butter on apple slices and raisins or grapes in my salad.
  24. I'm having problems with nuts, I think. :\ I might be able to eat them occassionally but having them too many days in a row is leading to problems. I had some almonds yesterday and today my abdomen is hugely distended. I've heard some people do well by soaking them, then roasting them. I might try that.
  25. Here's a link to my non-dairy yogurt method on another web site: Open Original Shared Link Yeah, you're not supposed to have corn or rice. I do when I go out to eat, very infrequently. I just made almond meal pancakes this morning and topped them with berries and lemon curd. My one area where I kind of cheat is with splenda. I use liquid splenda...
