  1. Hope for the best!! I was diagnosed via skin biopsy (DH blister) I assume you are going back to the gluten-free diet, right?
  2. In the USA, almost all Modified Food Starch is corn based... Rarely, do you see a product with Modified Food Starch made from wheat. Besides, according to the Food Allergen law, they have to tell you if it is made from wheat (I have never seen a food starch made from barley or rye). One phone call to the company can clear this up...but I'm sure it is...
  3. Again, I take the side of the grocery store. They have a limited amount of space and since there is a chance of cross contamination, they are disclosing it rather than keepng it a secret. Instead of protesting (which will likely accomplish very little), a better idea would be to tour the meat/fish department with a local manager and make the determination...
  4. Looks ok -- call the company Frank Red Hot is gluten-free, so is Tabasco... Open Original Shared Link
  5. You can have tons of condomints... French's Mustard Heinze Ketchup (not the organic kind it has gluten) Mayonaisse (I'v never seen one with gluten) Lea and Perrins Worchestishire Sauce (sp?) Franks Red Hot Sauce And the list goes on and on... For some reason, some vegetarians and vegans have a difficult time giving sympathy...
  6. www.Lame Advertisement.com I think I will get some....It would be nice to try it again. Plus, Gluten free Living just had an article on this saying that most Celiacs should be able to handle oats if they are not contaminated. Sign me up..
  7. I think Chili gives a lot of people "D"... Its not a gluten thing, its a chili thing...LOL!
  8. Sweet, I will be in SD in 2 weeks and I will definitely eat one of their Paninis (if available) I will actually be there 3 times in the next 4 months -- hooray! I miss SD!!!!
  9. Get that "quack" of a doctor a copy of the book, "Dangerous Grains" -- maybe he will learn something. Also, email him a link to this thread. GI's are often so ignorant of the celiac disease world, it often takes some dialogue with knowledgeable and vetran celiac disease sufferers to help them "see the light" Good luck and Stay gluten-free!

  11. Typically, I spray a skillet with "spray olive oil" Then I put a tortilla in until it has the "brown spots" Then I turn it over Put cheese on the cooked side (duh!) Then put another Tortilla on top of the cheese and lightly press down After a minute, flip it Now you have 2 tortillas with cheese melted in between Just put beef or chicken...
  12. Buffets are a tough sell for me... I normally do not eat at the Buffets due to Cross-Contamination. However, I have eaten at the Rio's seafood buffet. You can do it, just be particular on your food. At the Rio, I just ate the raw stuff, the steamed stuff (crabs, shrimp cocktail, etc) and salad. Don't eat the "hot items" with all of the other...
  13. I have eaten them a few times. when I fried them, I got sick. when I baked them, I was fine...
  14. What more could I add? I think this is a superb idea with unlimited possibilities. I see nothing wrong with having 2-3 meetings at the same time but in different regions. Obviously, I would nominate my home city of Las Vegas for one (the air fare is better here than almost anywhere and the number of gluten-free restaurants make it an easy place to accomodate...
  15. Sashimi is fine and so is most Nigiri (regular sushi) Nothing with "spicy" (most of the "spicy" contains soy sauce" No eel (unless not marinated in soy sauce) No mackerel (same) No imitation crab No California rolls (unless you do what I do and substitute shrimp for crab in those rolls -- yummy!) No Tempura (pure flour) No Soy Sauce ...

  17. The straightshooting and sound advice from Richard (lovegrov), Tiffany (tarnalberry), celiac3270 and KaitiUSA. Most of the advice was product suggestions and ingredient knowledge, but also the science of Celiac and who's who in the Celiac world of authors and scientists. Much thanks to them and everyone else on the board!
  18. chels, did you use a mandolin or carefully cut the potatoes thinly with a knife? Thanks
  19. Unfortunately, the Whole Foods are on the West side of Vegas and the Southeast side. (The Strip is sorta in the middle as is the airport). However, being an accomodating member of glutenfreeforum.com, I could always bring you a "sixer" if necessary. Just get a hold of me, elonwy... Let me know! Bronco Also, Here are some restaurants you...
  20. I just bought a case of Lakefront Brewery's New Grist Gluten Free Beer. It is in my fridge at home waiting to be opened. I think I sobbed at the grocery store here in town (Whole Foods) Hooray Beer!!!!!!!!!
  21. Your body will naturally gain some weight back as it is finally getting a healthy dose of calories again. With regards to diet and weight gain, its pretty simple. Your body type (height and weight) has a finite number of calories it can handle per day. If you exceed that amount, you will gain weight. If you do not reach that amount, you will lose weight...
  22. Dear Bronco, Thank you for your email. No, all of our hams are glazed and it is not possible to order them without it. Happy Easter! Regards, Jill Prothro Customer Service 800-367-7720 HoneyBaked. Home of the World's Best Ham.
  23. The best one I have tried so far is "New Grist" by Lakefront brewery. Check out their website -- www.lakefrontbrewery.com If you have questions about MA or NH, call the number to the brewery -- they just told me that gluten-free beer is coming to Nevada NEXT WEEK!! Hooray!
  24. I agree Ravenwood. Ken, let that one go. Its is FAR BETTER for them to admit theat they cannot accomodate you rather than trying, failing and you getting sick. I actually don't mind it when I am told by the restaurants that they cannot accomodate me. However, this is normally followed by me grabbing a menu, pointing to steak or chicken and asking...
  25. Soy Flour definitely has some bite to it - Blech! Try a combo of Rice, Potato and Potato Flours. Molly, why do you have face paint on? Was that a Giants game?? LOL!
