  1. Most experts on celiac disease recommend avoding dairy for at least 6 months (or until your villi/small intestine are healed). Bleu cheese should be fine -- but listen to your body! Some people can handle it some can't. Most bleu cheese molds are grown on a non-gluten medium -- even ifn they were grown with a gluten medium, the chance for gluten contamination...
  2. It appears Vydersope was right the entire time (regarding McD's Fries having wheat in them)... I still can't get it to come up, but this is tragic news. I don't think its "new" product, but perhaps they are abiding by the 2006 Food Allergen Law???
  3. I went there last year and I had success at 1. Atlanta Fish Market (In Buckhead) 2. Vini Vidi Vici (Italian joint in Midtown) 3. Cherry (fine dining in Midtown)
  4. Have you tried "Old Wisconin" sausages, brats, etc?? They are pretty goood and they say gluten-free right on the label -- I am a fan of the Cheddar Sausages -- though the fat content could kill a mule...
  5. Did you sunburn easily when you were young? -- yup Poor dream recall? -- at times Have you been anxious and fearful since childhood? -- yup Do you get cluster headaches? - no Are you sensitive to sunlight? -- yup DO YOUR KNEES CRACK OR ACHE? - yup Are you anemic? -- don't think so Do you have cold hands or feet? -- yup Are you easily upset by criticism...

  8. I am ok with horseradish... I think it could have been the pre-seasoned prime rib -- its rare to find any marinated meat that is ok.....they always have a billion ingredients....
  9. Sounds crazy but go with what you said... "If I get glutened, I have 10 seconds to get to the bathroom, so what are you cooking and how are you making it???" Don't worry about being assertive... It is far more offensive for them not to disclose to you what they are cooking since it may hurt you than it is for you to ask how they are preparing dinner...
  10. You might be a Celiac if.. -- you read the ingrdients on a bottled water for "hidden gluten" -- You try to explain to your friends about www.glutenfreeforum.com as an "online support group" and they laugh at you and call you "weird" -- You wish you could become the person in charge of ordering gluten free items for the grocery store (cause you know...
  11. The only bacons I have seencured with soy sauce are the "cheap" variety or Farmer John's... Hormel and Oscar Meyer and Kahn's are all pretty safe to eat (though Turkey bacons frequently have gluten in them) For the record, I love Chili's Baked Potato Soup -- sooo damn good -- I also like the Old Timer Burger (I don;t like their mashed potatoes though...
  12. Laura, I lost 25 poinds in 3 months after going gluten-free... (210 to 185) Somefolks lose weight because of the loss of all those carbs (South Beach effect)... I eventually began to get back to my normal weight after a few months....
  13. Just so we are all on the same page, CORONA, CARLSBERG, HEINEKEN and AMSTEL LIGHT ARE NOT GLUTEN FREE IN THE US DO NOT DRINK IT!!!!!
  14. Ironically, I just posted the same thing a couple of days ago -- I like the tangerine the best -- the stuff is almost as good as coffee, but tastes like crsystal light and gives you vitamins and minerals with no caffeine!!
  15. Nothing wrong with wine -- red or white -- depends on the season for me (Summer -- Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Noir, Winter -- Zinfandel, Pinot Noir or anything from Italy...) Potato Vodka -- Chopin, Blue Ice, LLeuowosa Tequila -- Ill Tassoro, Tres Generaciones, Patron (for shots) Rum -- I am sick of rum -- I rarely order it now (except for...
  16. A.M -- Biscuits and Gravy -- no question P.M. -- Carne Asada Burrito.....or KFC (I'm so trashy with my selections, but I really miss em..) Dessert -- One Steaming Hot Krispy Kreme Donut (sniff, sniff)
  17. I had a similar experience in Tempe, Arizona at Picazzo's... Sometimes we, as Celiacs, hunger to be "normal" and enjoy eating at a restaurant without trying to watch the cooks or "expecting" our salad to have croutons or have our entrees served with the stupid breasdstick we loudly made a fuss about when the server took our order -- I think its funny how...
  18. My knees sound like that sometimes too.. I hurt my knees playing soccer when I was younger and never had surgery (Celiac doesn;t help either -- joint pain)... I think its pretty common....
  19. Good point Elonwy! Always read those stinkin labels!
  20. Risoterria -- I think celiac3270 and Suicidal Turtle have gone there...
  21. I will echo what Richard said, I have no problem with bleu cheese either. I actually did a substantial amount of research on the subject. Even if the mold was made from bread, the amount of potential gluten would be so trivial that 99% of people would not react to it (unless you are lactose/mold intolerant). The mold doesn't carry any of the bread it...
  22. Soory about the confusion Megs, I thought you were poking fun of my "fist-portion-size" meal plan -- its hard to interpret e-mail somtimes...I hope you didn't find my post offensive... I think we are all just trying to help... I just know that diet pills are pretty bad for you (health wise)...exercise and portio control should help most (not all...
  23. Kinnikinnick does fine as long as you toast it -- (remember to have your own toaster -- no other bread in it!!) If it is toasted, Kinnikinick actually tastes similar to regular toast!!
  24. I don't think the "fist" theory is meant to be an exact science -- it is meant to give the eat er an idea of what portion size you should be consuming. We, as americans, eat way too much for a good body weight. My fist would equate to a normal size grilled chicken breast, a small baked potato and a good amount of steamed veggies -- what in the world...
  25. Personally, I think diet pills are the worst thing for you and definitely not a permanent solution. I work out every morning and monitor my diet pretty closely (3 meals a day and 3 in between snacks - normally yogurt, fruits or "ensure") Here are some things that can help you lose weight 1. Work out in the morning 2. No carbs after 7 p.m. ...
