  1. Hi cricketboots I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling like this. It is not uncommon to feel this way, and interestingly, you will find that some coeliacs are affected by anxiety and depression prior to diagnosis. It is something that can also improve once you have mastered the diet - it certainly has in my own case. I'm based in the UK...
  2. Hi cricketboots Welcome to the forum! I'm usually a Mod on this forum but I'm not around much at the moment due to work deadlines. But I saw this post in my inbox and thought I must reply as I know how scary irregular heartbeats can be. How you are doing with the diet? Are you managing OK? There is a lot to learn in the first few months...
  3. Hello temp8665 From my own point of view, and bear in mind I am a celiac, excess stomach acid is something that I suffer from as a result of: a) gluten exposure; b) taking certain antibiotics or NSAID medication or c) eating too much rich food (I always suffer from this around the time of my birthday, because of all the cake I consume!) So could...
  4. Hello Estere and welcome to the forum! A couple of questions: how long have you been gluten free for? Secondly, what form does your dizziness take? Can you describe it? Is it a spinning sensation, or do you feel like you are walking on board a ship on rough seas? Or do you feel lightheaded? etc... I suffer from a sort of seasickness feeling...
  5. My apologies... I didn't read the last part of this sentence properly. I see your problem... not knowing how long the wait will be makes it a bit more difficult to know what to do. This is a problem that is besetting our healthcare system in the UK. Can you get sort of approximate idea of how long the wait times are from your doctor?
  6. Hi Armadillo and welcome to the forum! I'd agree with your doctor looking at those figures. It is usual for patients with suspected celiac disease to have a follow-up endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis. It is important to continue eating gluten before the endoscopy - as I understand it, that's about two slices of normal (gluten containing) bread...
  7. Hello Bobby Nikki Welcome to the forum. Are you saying that your celiac numbers have come back borderline in a blood test? Is there any way you could post your results here? Cristiana
  8. Hi Saba I have to say I don't take them religiously - I forget sometimes, for long periods. But taking a daily quality multivitamin as a supplement was something a pharmacist and a nutritionist recommended for me as a coeliac - not huge doses of anything, we're talking a gluten free supplement containing no more than the daily recommended amounts....
  9. Hi Saba I'm so glad to read that you have experienced some improvement. Have you checked your vitamin supplements for gluten? A few years ago I experienced pain under my left rib and it turned out the liquid supplement I was taking did contain gluten. I have been diagnosed with coeliac disease since 2013 and I still take daily vitamin supplements...
  10. I live in the UK. When my friend and I first went to the doctors with our burning stomach pain (we attend the same GP surgery) we were given PPIs. It tends to be that in this country doctors try a PPI first and if that doesn't work they will conduct an endoscopy, testing for H pylori and ulcers etc. But they tend to give PPIs a few weeks to work first...
  11. Hi Lyn I don't think gastritis has ever been mentioned in my various endoscopies but that could be to do with timing - it's all a bit vague in my mind now but certainly by the time I had my second bout I waited around for a while for testing, so the worst of it was over. The point is you have been diagnosed with it and that's good in a way - you know...
  12. Hi Lyn Hang in there... it's very early days and you will still have a lot of inflammation which will cause these sort of symptoms. I was exactly where you are now when I was first diagnosed and I panicked and really thought I'd never get better. Unfortunately, this is definitely one of those instances where the word "patient" not only is a word...
  13. Hello Lyn My gastric symptoms at diagnosis included a burning stomach, diarrhea and bloating. I seems to recall my diarrhea got a lot better within a few days of adopting a gluten free diet but it didn't go away completely and I had bloating still. My doctor suggested I gave up dairy for a while and that helped tremendously. Lactose intolerance...
  14. Those are common deficiencies in coeliacs. You may find you may need to take a higher dosage of vitamin D than you are currently taking - this is worth raising with your doctor.
  15. I think that would be a very good move and will help your doctor identify if low bone mineral density is an issue. It would be good also to find out what your vitamin D levels are like as vitamin D helps with calcium absorption, essential to building strong bones. See if you can get your doctor to run this blood test. I was diagnosed in 201...
  16. Hello Catlinds and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your fracture. I haven't had this problem but I understand it is relatively common for coeliacs to have issues with bone density, predisposing us to osteopenia/osteoporosis, so I hope others on this forum will be able to help you. Assuming you are a coeliac, out of interest...
  17. Just to chip in... I get gas, bloating and stomach pains when I suffer from gastritis which can be brought on by glutening but also by eating rich food (too much cake is a bad one for me!) or by taking certain antibiotics or NSAIDs. I take a short course of omeprazole or another ppi (usually for just a few days) when it strikes and eat bland foods...
  18. Bruised rib is a good description - I've had that. All that brick laying won't have helped at all, but like my own situation, sometimes these things can't be avoided. Do you find that if you rest it gets a lot better? Also, how is your celiac disease? Are you managing OK with the diet and do you know what your numbers are like at the moment? I find...
  19. Hello TheFuzz Good to hear from you. I am glad that your treatment is helping immensely, but the unresolved chest pain still sounds nasty. Mine at the moment is so much better. It was awful for some years, so bad that I really thought there must be something seriously wrong. It went round to my back, too. I've been in ER twice to have my heart...
  20. Hi Jenni I would definitely give up oats and see what happens. In the UK it is normally suggested to give them up for 6 months to a year after diagnosis while you are healing and then reintroduce them to see if they are causing symptoms. They really are an issue for a number of those who post in this forum - me included. Most celiacs can eat them...
  21. Just checking my emails first thing here, over the pond. What a lovely thing to read first thing in the morning.... thank you AL!
  22. You are quite right, trents and not picky at all. I think I've made that mistake before! Senior moment and something I can't blame on coeliac disease for a change, unlike most things! Thanks for the correction and apologies for the mistake, Mandie.
