  1. Mid-forties. No known relatives. When I was diagnosed I was asked to get my first degree relatives checked but here in the UK doctors often won't pursue this unless there are symptoms. I'm sad about that as I think my mother may have had it. I was diagnosed by blood test and endoscopy after weird aura migraines, mouth ulcers, numbness, tingling, anemia...
  2. I wonder if my age is also against me. Mine was a midlife diagnosis - a variation on that theme. Looking forward to the award speech on youtube later. Send us the link!
  3. Hi Ella Well... what can I say... thank you so much for keeping us posted, but I'm sorry that you have got coeliac disease. That said, I'm glad you have found out because it really is so much better to know. You have found out before gluten has had a chance to have an impact on your health. Will you be able to get your first degree relatives tested...
  4. That deserves a medal! Or several...🥇 🎖️🏅 Out of interest, Oldturtle, are your figures normal now? I'm now really cross I didn't know my own figures! We could have a competition! 😄
  5. Hello Ace Yes, I've read the odd report of high numbers like that. I think we might see a few more reports here bar the fact that in some countries, including this country (the UK), the usual cut off point when labs report back appears to be 100. So even if the number exceeds 100, you will simply read >100. That's what my report said. I...
  6. Hi Steph Now... that's very interesting that he wasn't eating gluten before the blood tests were done. This is so often the case. I think it would be an idea to go back to your GP and ask if he can be retested after eating gluten again for 6-8 weeks. It is also very interesting that you know you have a coeliac gene. By way you spell coeliac...
  7. Hello Steph and welcome to celiac.com! I am sorry to hear your son is struggling. The issue with negative blood tests is they aren't always conclusive proof that someone doesn't have coeliac disease. A small percentage of coeliacs have negative blood tests, even if they have damage to their guts. The only way to be absolutely sure in these incidences...
  8. Herbal teas can help - in particular, it looks as if ginger root could help. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/322624#nine-herbal-teas-for-constipation How long ago was it that you had your colonoscopy? I think you should ask your doctor if it can be repeated if this issue has started to happen since your last one.
  9. Dear Chloe and welcome to the forum! Firstly, I'd like to say well done for your honesty and for admitting you need help. This is a really important first step, that you are no longer living in denial. One thing I'd like to clear up - do you have an annual coeliac review? I'm British and looking at your spelling of "coeliac" and "mum" I wonder...
  10. I think that would be valuable to have both options.
  11. I have to say I agree with you, ravenwoodglass. Jackie - adding a huge list of other foods could be discouraging and and put people off altogether. I realise that some people do have problems obvious issues with histamines but I think, having followed this website for some eight years since my diagnosis, the vast majority of people really do find...
  12. Hi celiacson2 and welcome to the forum. I'm a bit of a technophobe - this forum is about as technical as I get - but I realise I'm being left behind and need to do something about it! But what you describe sounds very interesting. I hope others will chime in soon - but my question is, could you run this on a computer or is it just for smartphones...
  13. Hi Italy97 and welcome. I am so sorry you are going through all of this - it is so tough when you are feeling unwell when you have a little one to care for. Trents is absolutely right - ditch anything processed at this stage, and also don't eat out. And don't eat oats - they really do cause big issues for some coeliacs, even the "pure" variety...
  14. My sympathies with the UTI - I have those and find that trying to drink loads and do all the right things to get rid of the bad bacteria plays havoc with my system - not to mention the trouble I've had with some antibiotics. In fact I've got one now and just took some codeine by mistake and have been wondering why I have been feeling so sick and dizzy! ...
  15. Hello Moccajoe and welcome to the forum! Those levels do sound high but just for clarification, can you give us your lab's normal test parameters? Also, can you let us know if you have been supplementing or having injections? Cristiana
  16. Hi Lexi I have a couple of friends who suffer nausea that is related to their cycle. This problem started in their forties so it could be linked to perimenopause hormones? I don't know how old you are but that might be something to consider. Other things that I find can make me nauseous: * gluten exposure * eating too much rich food...
  17. Hello there Heidiho! Welcome to the forum, and also to the world of people who haven't a clue! I think many people on this site will relate to your experiences. I have many tales to tell - eating out at a hotel in the Cotswolds that prided themselves in their gluten free menu options, only to be served a dish of delicious looking salmon and scrambled...
  18. Hello Morgan I agree with Trents. You have an observant doctor - a reading like this could so easily have been missed. Whichever way you look at it, considering you have IBS like symptoms it is worth ruling celiac disease out. All too often gastric symptoms are dismissed as IBS - it is really good your doctor looking into this.
  19. I don't blame you for feeling like this... when you're not feeling well it really is a "gluten trial"! One piece of advice - there are some tremendous gluten free substitutes in the shops these days but some real gaps in the market. In the UK, I'd love to be able to buy a gluten-free iced doughnut, for example! And there's a particular brand of chocolate...
  20. Hi Morgan I live in the UK and the standard advice here appears to be to eat the equivalent of 2 slices of normal gluten containing bread every day for six weeks prior to your blood test, and to carry on until the endoscopy - in fact, one of our most recent UK posters was told to carry on after the endoscopy until she had her results back. Others...
  21. Hello Sabaarya I'm afraid I don't, because I've only ever used NHS (the state) GP service. Visitors to the country can use this state care. Please read this link - I know people must be sending you info left right and centre, but make sure you find out what is available to you through the NHS first. https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/visiting...
  22. Hello again! I am not sure about iron supplements causing headaches but you could look at the possible side-effects listed on the pamphlet that accompanies the pills. Another thought, however: could gluten might be causing your headaches? I believe earlier in your post you said at the moment you aren't entirely gluten free, because of your circumstances...
  23. Also, a lot of meat products are now gluten free in the main supermarkets so burgers, meat balls, sausages are often marked gluten free. In fact, I just bought some turkey sausages which are labelled gluten free from Sainsburys today.
  24. Hello again! My daughter has quite conservative tastes when it comes to food so my repertoire isn't fantastic but our family menu runs something like this during the week for main meals: Roast chicken or lamb, with gluten-free gravy, roast potatoes, vegetables; risotto; shepherds pie, the sauce thickened with gluten-free flour; gluten-free pizza...
  25. Wheatwacked - not meaning to hijack this post, but do you find magnesium really dehydrates you? I find when I take it, it makes me very thirsty indeed.
