  1. Thanks for the info African Queen I will have to look into that. Right now I am taking Nystatin, so we will have to see how that goes. When I asked my doctor about the connection with celiac disease, she seems to think there is a loose connection. Meaning, celiac disease = malaborption = poor nutrition = risk for thrush I hope this goes away...
  2. I just returned from a trip to Siesta Key FL, which is a barrier island off the coast of Sarasota. I was a bit nervous about finding good gluten free food while there but I was delighted to find some great options. Demetrio's Pizza (Sarasota) - They had "THE BEST" gluten free pizza that I have ever had. I have tried alot of gluten free pizza and this...
  3. Agghh...just when I thought I got this gluten free thing down and was doing well. It appears, I have an overwhelming case of oral thrush. And I have likely had it for awhile (as in months) before it had to get bad enough for me to notice. Has this happened to anyone else? Some relation to diet change? Celiac? I have no real reason to have this...
  4. Oatmeal with blueberries, cinnamon, brown sugar, and just a touch of maple syrup. I also add flax seed and milk on top. YUMMM! In fact, I am going to go make some right now.
  5. I have burning mouth syndrome, however for me it's directly related to a mustard allergy that was discovered about the same time as celiac disease. Knowing that it's common for celiac's to have other food intolerances, my guess is that it's something food related. If I eat anything with mustard, the symptoms will start within minutes and can last 1 - 2...
  6. Hey there West Coast Canuck, Yes!! Like you, I had severe tendonitis and joint pain and muscle pain of just about everything. It was so bad before I was diagnosed that I would get tendonitis from the littlest things. 10 mins on the treadmill, severe tendonitis of my shin and ankle. Trying to exercise, tendonitis of my hip, etc. I have been gluten...
  7. He is not a pediatric gastro, he sees adults. DD is now 22. Sorry
  8. For anyone out there in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area, I just took my DD to see a physician at MN Gastroenterology - Dr Lisko. He was amazing! Spent an hour talking with us and kept repeatedly telling us, he had all the time in the world. He specializes in Celiac disease. Based on her symptoms and suspicion of celiac disease - she is already scheduled...
  9. As soon as I saw this post, last night for dinner, we had grilled burgers and I used waffle fries for my bun. I thought this was a brilliant idea and it tasted great too. I just got some frozen waffle fries and cut the burger in half and ate it as 2 mini burgers, with cheese, bacon and ranch dressing - it was delicious! Thanks for the suggestion!
  10. I drink bailey's and don't have any issues. For those who do, what are you mixing with it, if anything? I did mix it with Hot Chocolate and determined it was the hot chocolate that was the issue not the bailey's. Once I switched brands of hot chocolate to make absolutely sure it was gluten free, I was fine. As for pickles, I don't eat pickles or relish...
  11. I think there are alot of people who perhaps have a triggering event that seems to initiate or worsen celiac disease. I was like that too. For me, my triggering event was a really bad fall on a sailboat. When I fell I fractured my shoulder blade (scapula), my shoulder was really messed up for 2 years. This event triggered all of my muscle and joint issues...
  12. My nutritionist recommended to me that she wanted my Vit D level around 70. I started out at 23 and was taking 5,000 IU a day and it took 6 months to bring it up to 43. I am still taking 5,000 IU a day.
  13. Thanks for the reply love2travel (like the name BTW). I hear you about the tasty and palatable part. I wasn't so naive to think that I would get a tasty and palatable meal, just hopefully a meal and better still no gluten or mustard LOL So...ideas for snacks? Send them my way. Stuff that is filling and could sub for a meal.
  14. I travel internationally for work and have a trip coming up in January to Brazil. My first trip since being diagnosed and I am a little nervous. My first concern is the food on the airplane. Of course the airline will be notified on the need for a gluten free meal and mustard free (I also have a severe allergy to mustard), however how much can I trust...
  15. My liver enzymes were elevated for a time before I went gluten free, so yes it is related to celiac and it can happen. They didn't find any other reason for my liver enzymes to be elevated. They are now normal since I have been gluten free.
  16. I struggled with whether or not to have a biopsy as well. Sounds like I had more severe symptoms than you. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it for me. Reasons: 1) Doing the gluten challenge would about kill me 2) I had already made the decision to live gluten free and the results of the biospy would not change that decision. What might be helpful...
  17. Congratulations on 6 months!! And feeling better too. I am 2 months in and feeling way better than when I started. I now have the energy to clean my house, however now I think I just don't really want to
  18. Hi there, I don't doubt your biopsy, however some of your symptoms (bullseye rash in particular) could suggest Lyme disease. Have you been tested for Lyme disease? Many symptoms of Lyme disease and celiac disease overlap and are fairly similar. Just a thought. Thanks
  19. Here is a great recipe to try. I have made this several times now and it's great! I even brought it to Thanksgiving dinner and my family loved it even though they are not gluten free. Open Original Shared Link Enjoy and let us know what you think
  20. I thought I would post this, perhaps others may find it helpful. I have been strictly gluten free for 8 weeks now. Muscle and joint pain was one of my predominent symptoms (along with all the assorted GI symptoms). I had muscle and joint pain for over 2 years, sometimes so bad that I had trouble walking or walked with a limp. Also had frequent tendonitis...
  21. Yes, I think the body does know more than we do...the trick is to be listening. I unfortunately wasn't listening, not sure I was even in the same room LOL! After my first inpatient stay with abdominal pain, they sent me home on a low fiber diet (eat lots of white bread they said - oh, if I only knew then what I know now). The first thing I tried to...
  22. NoGlutenCooties - that was awesome, I think I might need to print that and hang it on my fridge so I can look at it when I want a doughnut gluten-free Lover - I have a box of gluten-free brownie in the cupboard, I might have to make those today
  23. LOL...thanks I needed that, makes me feel better
  24. I have been gluten-free for 6 weeks now. Yes, I am feeling better, just still dealing with the musculoskeletal aches and pains, although that is getting better too. It was easy to be gluten-free when I felt like crap, however now that I am feeling better, I am finding that I seem to "forget" how bad gluten really made me feel and then my mind starts...
  25. I read this one somewhere on the internet, but it was so hilarious it is worth repeating Gluten-free person (gluten-free) trying to explain what gluten is to a resturant waitperson (WP) for who english is not their first language. gluten-free: I can't eat gluten WP: puzzled look gluten-free: Flour, I have an issue with flour WP: promptly removes...
