  1. yep, lots of places - I just used customink for the t-shirts for my yoga business.
  2. definitely something to determine for yourself. far before ever getting a flu shot, I got colds and the flu regularly. I have asthma and and personally prone to any respiratory infection "going feral" in my lungs. (Not saying anyone else with asthma will be this way.) For me, a flu shot gives me better odds to avoid weeks off work (thousands of dollars...
  3. I don't understand why the breastfeeding mom would be proscribed from eating honey - the botulism spores would be broken down by your (the mom's) digestive system. But I'm not a mom...
  4. I do fine on codeine/hydrocodone, but I have friend (not celiac) who cant stand those painkillers (or a number of other ones). it's not uncommon.
  5. my husband and I watch it every week.
  6. the advice is there because those grains are common and they have fiber. but you can get lots of good nutrients from lots of other sources - other grains, or fruits and vegetables. it's only four things you're getting rid of, while you're still eating hundreds of others, some of which are nutritionally superior to wheat and barley. (wheat really isn't...
  7. ditto from me. your blood test says that your immune system is producing antibodies against your own intestines when it sees gluten. that means you have celiac, and shouldn't be eating gluten.
  8. ditto - sounds like she's not gluten free, the chinese food and the contamination of the cheese cake. I also have not heard of a migraine sounding like that (and I'm on topamax - an anti-epileptic - for migraine prophylaxis). the numbness, paleness, and brevity are all oddities when it comes to migraines. (difficulty speaking - due to pain, dizziness,...
  9. rediscovering that social events are about people, not food, is a perspective change of the mind that takes time. (watch little kids sometimes, that helps. ) but encouraging friends and family to get together outside of food helps too.
  10. I have RLS (I take plenty of mag and b-12, not to mention a number of other supplements), and it developed a number of years after going gluten free, as part of my development of fibromyalgia. I am on Mirapex (it is a drug that was originally designed for Parkinson's that has dual use for RLS), and that's what helps me the most, by far. Nothing else really...
  11. thanks for posting the response! I was hoping you'd get something useful from them!
  12. avocado, coconut milk, almonds, hemp/olive/canola oil in salads and for cooking vegetables, and eggs.
  13. I'm hypoglycemic, and had a low non-fasting reading (79mg/dl) 3 hours after eating at the same time I got my cholesterol test results, where my triglycerides were 73, so - for me - it doesn't lead to a connection.
  14. turkey chili - tasty. beef stew - yum. chicken soup - aaahh. bbq chicken salad - mmm. veggie stir fry - more please. apples, peaches, pears, cherries, bananas, mangos, pineapple, berries, oranges - delish. bell pepper and hummus, tomatoes and guacamole, carrots and bean dip - oooo. yes, yes, there is lots and lots of tasty gluten free food. my friends...
  15. True. Randomized studies show the average celiac population "cheating rate" at above 50%. This board is a biased sample - it consists of people who care about their health and are out there looking for answers and ways to maintain the diet better.
  16. your doctor would be best able to answer that question. I believe, if they are medically necessary, they are quite likely to be covered. whether or not your doctor believes it's medically necessary is something you need to talk to him/her about.
  17. have you had a sleep study done? while they weren't sure about the results from mine, there was some indication of restless leg, and rls meds have helped *TREMENDOUSLY*. (not saying rls is your problem, but rather a sleep study may be able to help find issues with sleep quality that you can't find on your own.)
  18. I wanted to point out - and hopefully one of them will reply - there are a sizeable number of people on the board that think fibro isn't it's own condition (note: I didn't say "this is in your head"! I think we all despise that phrase ), but rather a symptom of another problem. While I don't necessarily agree and can't speak for them, I wanted to get a...
  19. fruits and veggies can be sources of intolerances as well - even rice can. you might want to spend some more time online researching elimination diets (they generally involve a handful of foods - literally 10-12 to start with), and - imho - require a lot of planning. they can be worth it, but you'll want whole, natural foods you get yourself (and can wash...
  20. I developed fibro about four years after celiac, and was dx'ed (fibro) about nine months later. I think it was stress, from work.
  21. lol, what does it say if I love vinegar, and it sits *well* with me? like "yum, I'll drink some of that red wine vinegar, it makes me feel even better. apple cider vinegar, sure! balsamic? yes please!" am I the anti-yeast?
  22. As I learned on my trip up mt. st. helens a couple weeks ago, homemade chili dehydrates VERY well. Put it in a freezer bag, add boiling water when you make dinner, and boom - dinner (in its own trashbag). Tasty, filling, nutritious, and easy cleanup. Not to mention lightweight. (Takes about a day and a half to two days to dehydrate. Still a lot cheaper...
  23. there's so much you can do with just those foods that you listed (and most of these suggestions really aren't very complicated)! sweet potato fries made in the oven (salt and pepper, or spiced up with some cayenne and garlic salt; mashed w/ canned pumpkin; microwaved or baked just like a regular potato) potatoes (roasted w/ olive oil, salt, and rosemary...
  24. have you talked to your doctor about the issue? it seems like anything with protein in it is giving you problems, and I vaguely recall there being something along those lines... actually, working with an allergist or GI specifically, rather than a GP might be more helpful, or even a nutritionist, as long as they're good... with a diet this restricted...
  25. I'm in WA, and do a lot of hiking and backpacking. (I'm going backpacking tomorrow - just an overnight for a summit attempt on Mt. St. Helens. I was sick with bronchitis and just started getting better last weekend, so we'll see if I'm up for a summit attempt.) The food can be a bit of a pain, since you have to make your own backpacking food, and can...
