  1. lips - burts bees (peppermint is my preference ) face - alba theraputics green tea and aloe
  2. I'm sorry to hear that. Do the results speak to at least some improvement since diagnosis? Any followup theories that they are going to pursue?
  3. In the context of this dicussion, it might be worth trying to figure out if you actually *are* a night owl or an early bird. I do better when I go to bed early and get up early, but find it very hard to do (if I don't get regular exercise) because I tend to fight sleep. So I feel better if I get into an early bird routine, but find it easy to slip into...
  4. I think an interesting followup question - how many celebrities are reading this board?
  5. Additionally, you might want to check whether or not he's getting enough calories - he might be concerned enough about food that he's not getting as much as he needs right now. His needs might be particularly high, recovering from a number of years of malabsorption.
  6. You need to be eating a good dose of gluten, every day, to have accurate testing, because the blood test looks for a reaction to gluten - no gluten, no reaction even if you are celiac. As for Enterolab - whether it will be accepted by your doctor or not varies greatly. It's not widely accepted yet, as there hasn't been peer review publication of their...
  7. Peppermint tea, or ginger and honey tea; lots of water, and rest. And not trying to be too social, because I become a major sour-puss.
  8. I'm craving someone to clean my kitchen.
  9. Even if it is 50mg of gluten, consider that one cup of flour is about 125g. Given that gluten makes up somewhere between 8-15% of flour, this all means that this supposed 'tolerable' level is 0.4% of a cup of flour. That's 1/5th of a teaspoon of flour - from all sources of contamination total. A few crumbs is going to go through that much pretty quickly...
  10. I certainly wouldn't eat a salad with the croutons removed. Why? Because there's going to be contamination you *can't* avoid because you don't know about it that will eat away at that "limit" of how much you can have; you don't want to use up the rest of it or go over that limit with contamination you know you can avoid.
  11. ditto larrymac - I've heard it in the microgram range (which should be symbolized with ug if there's no access to greek letters, or mcg, but not everyone bothers).
  12. Glad to hear you're doing alright, and I hope your followup goes great!
  13. Open Original Shared Link has their location (I forget the exact street). Some of the other places are small, some are larger - it varies. You can find all of them on the web. Sunlight, for instance, is small (kinda hard to find on the internet - it's in Roosevelt), and while it doesn't advertise a gluten-free menu, they are clear about what's safe and...
  14. also: Z'Tejas Besides the chains there's: Impromptu Wine Bar and Cafe Flying Apron Bakery DaVinci's Bakery Sunlight Cafe Cafe Flora Zao Noodle
  15. she may be having blood sugar issues. not necessarily diabetes, but hypoglycemia. it's most definitely worth talking to your doctor if you're confident that it's not just behavioral.
  16. Molecularly, I have no idea why that would be. Open Original Shared Link is a type of enzyme, primarily found in pineapple. These enzymes break down some proteins, but I can't quite understand why someone would say that celiacs would react to them. Open Original Shared Link is used in many situtions - as a digestive aid and anti-inflammatory primarily...
  17. Yeah, if that's what they tasted like, you got old ones. And I've had a couple bags that were crumbles when I opened them, but that's the exception, rather than the rule. A store that goes through a lot of them is important, so you get fresh ones. But I can totally understand not wanting to give them another shot if you're that hesitant. (Stale rice cakes...
  18. I'm glad you decided not to do the test without a controlled environment. If your allergist isn't working with you, talk to another one who's willing to help you figure out which of the items is causing the anaphylactic reactions. Good luck!
  19. Skip the food! Take the day off work and go skiing!
  20. bah! go to a microbrew and talk to them about the process. (not to mention that wheat isn't the problem, but barley.) you may get *way* less gluten in beer than bread, but it is not worth it!
  21. Here's a link to the Open Original Shared Link. (You'll actually have to scroll down and click 'more' next to the drug name.) I find it useful to google these (with the syntax "prescribing information <drug name>" when I take something new. While the inactive ingredient listing in the PI does mention starch, it is often NOT wheat starch. As you...
  22. Wacky. I thought that used to be a highschool misfit thing, but ... yeah, toyota? The dealer will have ones you can get to replace it with. That's wacky-annoying.
  23. it's well reported that this sort of thing can happen. the body isn't a static thing that never changes. sometimes, you're not going to notice the symptoms, but it doesn't mean there isn't any damage. this is *particularly* true during the adolescent through mid-20's ages when hormone fluctuations leave people less likely to experience symptoms, regardless...
  24. How long does it take for symptoms to show up for me? 5 minutes to 5 hours. It varies, depending on how my body is doing. But you can't cheat. You can't take prophylactic treatment when you know you're going to eat something bad - because you need to avoid eating bad things. (And not just wheat, but rye, barley, and oats as well.) It causes intestinal...
  25. That's what most of us are talking about when we say we get 'brain fog' from being glutened. Appears to be *quite* common.
