  1. I take it as a migrain preventative, at 100mg a day (75mg at night, 25mg in the morning). (Standard dosage for migraines is to titrate up to 400mg/day. "Standard" just the mean to a wide curve, however, in this case.) While I had the most common annoying side effects when I first started it, they did wear off with patience. The small amount of fatigue...
  2. with PCOS, as I understand it, you need to be careful with your carbohydrate intake, because the PCOS makes you insulin resistant and affects your blood sugar. a diet much more like what a hypoglycemic or even a diabetic eats (though calorie controlled for weight loss) in proportions of fat/protein/fiber/carbohydrates would be more beneficial (and might...
  3. yep, I use the whipped one myself. not really *just* like butter, but close enough!
  4. There are neurologic and mental issues associated with celiac, and this wouldn't surprise me to occur in some people. Seems like it could be related to the 'brain fog'. (I get this with a bad migraine, myself, even if it's not strictly a pain cause. It's kinda odd, you just can't figure out how to put words together into a sentence.)
  5. FYI, you can adjust the toughness either by trying different brands or different cooking times. It's all new learning! Congrats on your first success!
  6. I'm so sorry. Strawberries affect more people than it would seem.
  7. Most fresh salsa's are gluten-free. Add some Louisiana hot sauce... yum!
  8. for that matter, you can buy unpitted dates, and manually pit them (pretty easy). I don't think there's any flour in the pitting process (though I've never seen chopped/diced dates or date pieces without oat flour), or you'd be able to see it on the dates...
  9. I can't imagine - with all the symptoms, all the manifestations, all the methods of testing, and all the approaches of dealing with it that are really out there - that there is *any* way to do this in the media and make everyone happy. As for the beer - any advertising is good advertising... spreading like widefire amongst 1% of the population probably won...
  10. until the dh is healed, try eliminating sources of iodine from your diet (iodized salt, seafood, etc - google can help find the list). iodine is necessary for forming the IgA deposits in the skin that make dh what it is. it may take a number of months for the deposits to clear and healt.
  11. heh... I might have to go look for it! I've *never* found a mix that was actually *hot*. Maybe a little spicy, but never *hot*.
  12. This reminds me of a little 'saga' a few years ago on another forum. Someone else was posting on this forum about the 'Optimal Diet' - one researched significantly in Poland and one that is very high in saturated fats and, compared to the american diet, low in carbohydrates. My FIL had recently started the Ornish diet, a very low fat vegetarian diet, due...
  13. even that article discussing the chemistry notes that the free form naturally occurs in foods. ("free" here meaning the anionic form - so once it's in solution, anything with enough liquid to dissassociate the ionic bond - including saliva, it's 'free'. and it's this free form that the taste buds can pick up on.) so I don't see how it could help but be...
  14. Maybe it was growing up in California (home to a number of these camps), but it was *often* mentioned, and had it's own section in most public libraries. A section in the history books from school, summer reading on Manzinar, discussion during class... definitely not glossed over.
  15. The pediatricians office is wrong - you have hired them, they are providing you a service. They can order the test. As for you, see what the full panel says. It looks like you haven't had a biopsy yet? If the tests remain inconclusive, I'd definitely try the diet. You don't need a doctor's diagnosis for you - or the kids - to go gluten free.
  16. at six months, it may just be too early for most foods. her digestive system may need more time to develop.
  17. like you just did! welcome!
  18. Yeah, if you kiss your SO right after they've eaten gluten-y food, you could get contaminated, as there's still starch in their mouth. There is a standard test (breath) for lactose intolerance that your doctor can run, but casein and soy are more difficult. Besides alternative testing, or ELISA testing (which some doctors will do), you can do some variety...
  19. If you check out the questions and answers they provide, it's actually a little more helpful - it does note that naturally gluten free foods can be labelled gluten free as long as it's noted that it's not a brand specific thing. The issue with oats seems a little more confused in the faq, though.
  20. Huh... I was unable to find any non-promoting material talking about this. No reliable sources... (I do not actually trust 'truthinlabeling' as a truely reliable source. I'm not trying to say that I don't believe you, but that it's still not adding up for me, is all. I would be interested in clearing up the conflicting information regarding the creating...
  21. Just for reference, there's Open Original Shared Link on this topic.
  22. Thanks for going there personally and talking to them about it. I know they always ask for numbers so they can test batches, but I don't ever see them confirm the results with people who know they've been glutened. (I have heard them say "you say you were glutened, but our tests said there was no gluten." then what?!?!)
  23. You are not being overly sensitive. Bread leaves crumbs - even your husband can see that. You cannot eat those crumbs. Tell him to deal. Ok, maybe phrased a little nicer.
  24. Whole Foods has some lovely exotic chocolate collections. They're kinda pricey though.
  25. I think the three most likely things: 1) you're still getting gluten (if you don't KNOW that it's gluten-free, don't eat it) 1.5) you're getting gluten contamination from cooking/prep/toilettries 2) you need to be more patient and give yourself more time to heal 3) you have additional food intolerances
