  1. congratulations!!!
  2. I'll admit, I was assuming you were over 5 feet tall when asking about weight (more than 90% of the time, I'd be right, but apparently not this one ). It's tough. You've got something non-obvious to figure out, and the most I can say at this point is to encourage you to not just stick with the doctors you've been working with for resolving this problem...
  3. I find that too much corn, particularly in chip form, just doesn't sit well with me. Similar symptoms to glutening, but not quite the same. Doesn't matter the brand, does matter the quantity.
  4. I asked about diet because it's the first, common question after starting a gluten free diagnosis. You said that you went from 115 to 93lbs over four months during one pregnancy, implying to me that you started at 115. Is that the best weight for you? (I don't know you're height or bone structure, so I promise, that's not a snarky question. It's asked...
  5. (I'm going to sound harsh too - condoms *don't* continually break if you use ones in good condition, use them properly, and don't expose them to substances that will degrade them. My husband and I rely upon condoms as a backup to FAM for birth control, with no accidental pregnancies in 10 years of having sex, and no reason to assume fertility problems in...
  6. My understanding is that it's not so much about finding out what breeds are good for children, as finding out what breeds are not. A family member once had a dalmatian, and those guys tend to bond to *one* person in the family, and "protect them" even from other family members. This proved to be a bit of an issue after the dog bonded to the mom, and everyone...
  7. Yes, make your own cranberry sauce. EASY. Stuff from a can is nasty! The versions I make tend to reduce for a long time, but then, I just use juice rather than refined sugar. With enough time, you could use fruit instead, for the full vitamin/fiber benefit.
  8. I'm partial to them, having had them all my life, but I'm voting poodle. I had toys growing up, and a standard now. (Neo, the 15 week old standard poodle puppy: Open Original Shared Link) He does wonderfully with everyone we have over (he's met scads of people - early socialization is vital), and he loves playing with our neighbor's one-year old (the youngest...
  9. You say no potatoes, but then say you take out sweet potatoes. Can you clarify? The two are in different families, so do you need to avoid both regular potatoes and sweet potatoes, or do you only need to avoid one? When you say no vegetable oils, no olives and no nuts, I take it that olive oil, and nut oils are out. But what about canola oil? As that...
  10. I did thanksgiving today. Everything was gluten free, dairy free, and moderately low fat. The meal was also, as a whole, vegetarian friendly and low-carb friendly, not to mention friendly to my husband's particular tastes. Starters: Mediterranean Lentil Soup Mixed Greens with Pomegranate, Apple, Pear, and Clementine with a Berry Vinaigrette ...
  11. cross train in a few things that you like to do. *what* you do isn't as important as that you do it regularly, and for that, it has to be something(s) that you like to do.
  12. gluten is not an "allergen". it causes intolerances, and autoimmune reactions, not allergies (a different immune - not autoimmune - response). (broadly speaking, as far as we know, etc. etc....) the allergen labeling law is in regards to the eight most common food allergens: wheat, dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, and soy. ONLY. it...
  13. Clif Nectar Bars - Four combinations of fruits and nuts. Three combinations of fruits, nuts, and chocolate. No gluten, dairy, soy, or corn in any of the ingredients. They do not promise against cross contamination, of course, as many of their other bars contain these ingredients, and I don't think they have separate buildings for each type of bar.
  14. Remember that being away from a home base, constantly moving, makes it all the harder. Finding a stable foundation is HARD! I'm sure there are lots of other great rewards to what you're doing, but consistent special food finding isn't one of them. You will be constantly reminded of all the hardest parts of the diet (which, I suppose, will make you great...
  15. happy birthday!
  16. yup, works great for me. of course, it works great for odor caused by bacteria that live off of sweat - that's what most BO comes from. so, for some things (for me, an adult female, that means right around my period), it doesn't make much difference. but for what it is supposed to work on, it works great for me. I use the solid stick (takes less time...
  17. Thanks guys! I've been going through a bit of depressive spell, and it helps to be reminded that there are people out there supporting you. /group hug!
  18. what do you mean "with the celiac thing, no one will celebrate with you"? I'm having a birthday party on saturday; we're going out for sushi. (last year, it was at home, and I cooked, because I like cooking. two years ago, it was pf changs. we've done bucca di beppo before, and so on. and always things that don't involve food as well.) I'm sure you...
  19. in order of my preference: sweet rice flour cornstarch potato flour
  20. At least a couple in SoCal and the Seattle area have failed. If you're strictly gluten free, you seriously limit the population that will come to you, so it is a tough business case. But there are also a number of stores around here that have mentioned having particularly well trained staff, and not being *strictly* gluten free (they might cater to a subset...
  21. I use both rice protein powder and hemp protein powder, depending on what I'm using them in.
  22. turkey and cranberry sauce sushi! Open Original Shared Link
  23. huh, I thought I had replied, but I guess not. for 'personal areas', you don't really need soap, water is sufficient. (why do I know this/say this? I have vulvar vestibulitis, and a lot of women with this have sensitivity to almost anything down there, or want to avoid any possible anything that could make it more sensitive. lots of women with VVS go...
  24. flu shots are gluten free, but can make you feel as though you have gotten the flu. additionally, they have egg, which is of concern for those allergic to eggs.
  25. What was the length of the La Campana hike? (6000ft being the altitude gain, I would expect, and that's a lot of altitude gain, going up more than a mile in a day.) Altitude will affect things, but if you've been at high altitude for a while, you've got an advantage. Barring injury (frowns at tenosynovitis and nerve inflammation in my feet from a backpacking...
