  1. calcium can cause constipation, magnesium diarrhea - different amounts affect different people. is it possible you were experiencing side effects of the Ca or Mg itself?
  2. talk to your doctor about having prescription migraine meds on hand - they work far better than over the counter meds for most (not all) people. if you get them chronically (at least once a week), you might look into preventative meds. some people find a COLD shower can help (not that it's comfortable, but can help the migraine end). for some, caffeine...
  3. I am a fan of RainbowLight's Food Based Calcium. It has the proper dose of calcium (500mg per pill, you can't absorb more than that at a time). It has a good ratio of calcium to magnesium (500mg Ca, 250mg Mg). And some vitD3 (100IU). (I take additional liquid vitD3 given my location and circumstances.) It's gluten/dairy/soy free.
  4. technically, active autoimmune conditions put you in the category of "at risk". because your immune system is acting abnormally, and predominantly too busy attacking your own body to be bothered fighting off infectious diseases. but, celiac disease is the only autoimmune disease that we can "cure", in so far as stopping the autoimmune reaction - by remaining...
  5. I just wanted to note that some of these things may vary by breeder - even among reputable ones - because there are controversies in many things. The neuter/spay thing, for instance, caught my attention. I probably, myself, would NOT go with a breeder who *REQUIRED* spay/neuter by 1 year, because - though I do not want to breed - I do not want to spay/neuter...
  6. find a new doctor, skip the tests. if smacking yourself in the head with a hammer hurts, would you keep doing it? no. and there are a number of doctors who recognize that. listening to your symptoms and your body and your experiences is more important than listening to someone who does not know what you are going through.
  7. with such little food, I would wonder if you're hypoglycemic and need more healthy foods. does the nausea die down if you have a piece of fruit? additionally, I'm not sure the tostada is gluten free - cross contamination in the fryer and the beef may have gluten too... I think there's very little there that is gluten free...
  8. here's the reason why I think that you shouldn't claim "just gluten intolerant" (when it comes to treatment) based on self-diagnosis. since celiacs can be asymptomatic, or nearly asymptomatic, or have delayed or minor symptoms, how would you distinguish, without diagnostic tests, whether or not you were having an immune response to gluten in your intestines...
  9. The new version is definitely better - much more like 'real' granola. But it's still too sweet. :/

    ARCHIVED Advair

serevent is the bronchodialator half of advair, and not recommended for use on it's own (without an inhaled steriod), as it increases the risk of death. (that's where those new advair warnings come from, once you add the steroid, the risk goes virtually away.) in general, inhaled corticosteroids should pose a MUCH smaller risk than systemic corticosteroids...
  11. genetics is going to determine a lot of these things. some people do start loosing their hair that early. the diet may help, and good fats/supplements will as well. but nothing can undo the genes you've got.
  12. I'm not a fan of confrontation, but won't shy away if one is needed, and it sounds like someone needs to call her out (nicely) on her behavior. I don't know if this is right or not, but based on how I read your post, I would have (privately, away from the other family members), said, at the time of the event, "I'm sorry you feel offended that I won't eat...
  13. COBRA extends your existing (through your employer) insurance, so check with them to find out if they would cover you overseas on an extended trip.
  14. Depending on how she felt before being diagnosed, she may feel that it is all or nothing. I get the impression, from your post, that things are emotional enough for the two of you - frustration, resentment, anger, impatience, etc. - that it's going to be difficult to have a productive discussion on it any time soon. There may be other things behind...
  15. Not all companies know what they're talking about, even with their own foods. From what I've seen, the larger companies with more 'service representatives' who just have that as their function, tend to be a little more 'form letter', and a little less good understanding. In this case, however, they're right. Glutinous rice refers to the starch content...
  16. Two things: 1) that first one, that wine "shot to your manliness", is totally in your head. that sounds harsher written than it's meant, but there is truth there, and I encourage you to think about it. (and yes, I find myself in the same type of situation, where an expectation I've set in my head isn't met and so I think I do measure up, but the problem...
  17. I don't have scoliosis, but see it a lot when I teach yoga. A good number of cases (I don't know the exact percentage) are functional - that is, they come from habitual posture. You can use PT/chiropractic/yoga therapy to help actually correct it.
  18. dog training is a fascinating thing to me. I've learned so much in the past five months that I now am confident that I know very little. (not that Neo isn't well trained, he gets compliments from just about everyone we meet. it's a lot of training to do for a 7-month old, confident and very social puppy to be well trained - hopefully for a CGC, Canine...
  19. additionally, in the US, it's only deductible if you can take medical deductions - that total medical expenses add up to 7.5% (or more) of your adjusted gross income. but yeah, you can't take the pound of green beans that you bought as a tax deduction, just because you have to be gluten free. it's also been reported around here that taking the...
  20. take your time finding a good breeder. if there are any good training facilities in the area, go there and talk to the owner for recommendations. interview the potential breeders you get recommendations for. I know that GSDs can make great pets, with a lot of training! good luck!
  21. ravenwood gave you some great articles to read - and I highly encourage you to do so. I'll give you the short summary/approximation based on the assumption that you don't have a ton of complications from it taking a decade to diagnose you: Follow the gluten free diet properly, and your life expectancy is the same as the average population. Don't follow...
  22. I'm certainly no lawyer, but as far as I know, she doesn't have much recourse here. They didn't each sign agreement with the building owner to pay half of the rent, they signed together to pay full rent. The agreement between themselves on how they split the rent is their own business, unless they created their own legal contract between them (which still...
  23. no so much. if you have $100 and I take 2%. if you have another $100, and I take 2% again. repeat 8 more times. ... ... you've, over the course of this time, gotten $1000. I have $20. that's still just 2%. (you'll note that this is the equivalent of 20,000ppm. but it's harder to make representable math with 0.002%, or $1 out of $50,000.) ...
  24. I can't do hormones in hormonal birth control. Depending on your circumstances, you might look into the Fertility Awareness Method.
  25. Those two genes cover the vast majority of - BUT NOT ALL - cases of celiac. So, you can't guarantee a rule out with a gene test either.
