  1. Oh, you two, that's terrible. The used appliances remind me of the wedding 'gift' we got from my husband's parents. Because they bought themselves a new bedroom suite, we got their old double bed (complete with mattresses so old the stuffing was coming out in several spots) and the matching dressers. My husband to this day can't understand why I was upset...
  2. gfp and Fiddle Faddle, I really appreciate the time you spent to send your long, thoughtful responses. I've tried everything, though. We've gone to marriage counseling...........my husband went to help the counselor fix ME. It was terribly frustrating and I couldn't do it, it would make me sooooooooo angry. When we went last year several times to try...
  3. Yes, as Nettiebeads said, all those symptoms are quite typical of celiac disease. Why would your girlfriend go on a gluten binge, and how often will she do that? You know, she should NEVER purposely eat gluten ever again! She will do damage to herself if she does. And possibly develop other autoimmune diseases down the road, or even cancer. It's bad enough...
  4. Your family doctor should test you for all these, mine did.
  5. If this doctor has been treating your fiance all these years without suspecting celiac disease, she is incompetent. Therefore, finding a new doctor who actually understands about celiac disease sounds like a great idea. That sounds like it would very much surprise me if celiac disease wasn't the underlying cause of all of those illnesses, especially...
  6. Hi Cornhusker, and welcome to this board. It seems to me that the first priority will have to be to inform your wife! If she is the cook/shopper for the family, she absolutely will have to be educated on celiac disease and how to eat gluten-free, or you will be doomed! I am only sort of joking here, as you won't be safe until she knows what will hurt you...
  7. Well, I am afraid you're probably right with some of what you say (sigh). My husband knows I am more intelligent than him (even though I am very careful to not ever directly mention that fact), he has said so a few times. My IQ is in the gifted range (I won't say where, I don't want to brag), and his is in the average range. Huge difference. Still, he is...
  8. You know, Barb, lacking knowledge and being stupid are two entirely different things. If you don't know something, and you ask questions so you can learn how to handle this complex cf diet to get well, I personally would think you are very SMART! Because having somebody else share their knowledge is the best and easiest way to learn. So, ask away, learn...
  9. Cissie, my aunt, my six brothers, my sister and their families (including my nephew, of course) live in and around Hamburg. It sounds like you had an interesting, adventurous life.
  10. Hi, and welcome to this board. Everybody reacts somewhat differently to gluten. When I first found out about the celiac disease, I'd get the horrible diarrhea within 20 minutes. Now I have an extremely delayed reaction, and won't get it until a week later, lasting about two days. So, I believe that you had a somewhat delayed reaction on Saturday. Which...
  11. Well, you're right, oily seeds will probably gum up your pepper grinder and render it unusable. A coffee mill is a better option. If you feel you only need a small amount, what you can do is freeze what you don't use immediately. The ground flax will keep fresh, and you won't have to grind new ones so soon.
  12. Hi Phoenix, and welcome to this board. I am glad you have been diagnosed this young, but it isn't too great that you already have osteoporosis. Have you been tested for your levels of vitamin D, K, ferritin (stored iron), calcium and magnesium, and vitamin B12? Those are often low in people with celiac disease. And since you have osteoporosis, calcium, magnesium...
  13. I had excrutiating back pain most of my life (from the age of about 7), and nobody could figure out why. It went almost totally away the day after eliminating gluten! And my back is still the best it's been since I've been a little kid. The back pain comes right back when glutened (or if I eat rice, eggs or soy, but most with gluten). So, it is entirely...
  14. That is good news! Apparently, you are one of the celiacs who can tolerate non-contaminated oats. That is nice, it gives you so many more options.
  15. I am glad the laptop works better for her. And I've heard from other Aspies that pressure helps them. Unfortunately, it's the opposite for me, that's the type of thing that would make me feel like suffocating. Instead of feeling better, I'd have a terrible panic attack! But as I said, everybody is different. I wished it worked for me, too, it's such an easy...
  16. No, 17 months is not too young for the test. It might even turn out accurate, and it may be positive. However, if it is negative, at this age it can very well be a false negative. In which case I would go with Enterolab if wanting a definite answer. Or just put the whole family on a gluten-free diet and see the whole gang thrive!
  17. How about a nice potato, rice or noodle salad? That's nice in the summer, when it's hot.
  18. Hi Cissie, and welcome to this board. I had a good laugh or two reading through this thread, you sound like such a fun person! I hope I will be as lively and having so much fun at your age. I hate cooking, too, it takes away from what I really want to do. So, I cook only once a day, and make enough to last more than one meal (I can't eat so many things...
  19. Mandy, are you planning on getting married and having children? If you have celiac disease, you don't want to be pregnant on gluten (if you CAN get pregnant, that is, since celiac disease causes infertility in many women, and even in men). I had the most horrible pregnancies, being sick 24/7 for nine months with each of my five children. But what was even...
  20. Umm, yeah, I've read about that already, and it's pretty gross. I hope, for your sake, you don't have Crohn's and won't have to try it!
  21. Well, you obviously are at the least gluten and casein intolerant and need to be gluten-free and casein free (meaning, no more dairy of any kind). You have fat malabsorption, which shows that your villi are likely blunted, and you probably actually have celiac disease already. You have two genes that predispose you to either gluten intolerance or celiac disease...
  22. Well, I use the Lame Advertisement Renew lotion, which is fabulous. Open Original Shared Link
  23. He Terese. Well, you could have rice milk (not Rice Dream, as it's not gluten-free), and Rice Dream ice cream (which is gluten-free). Or almond milk on your cereal. There are other choices, but since I am intolerant to all of them, somebody else would have more info. Maybe you can have soy. Many people with celiac disease are soy and dairy intolerant as...
  24. Hi Charmaine, and welcome to this board. It sounds very much like you may at least be gluten intolerant. If you want official testing done, have it done by Enterolab if you can afford it. Open Original Shared Link It's not cheap, but accurate, painless and would give you the answers you need. Since you don't have to be on gluten when doing their test ...
  25. So, DID you get that laptop for your daughter? That sounds like a fabulous idea! I think every Aspie needs his/her own computer. I have great difficulty with handwriting. I can write legibly, without mistakes for about half a page, and then it will deteriorate. My mind will go faster than my poorly coordinated hand will write, and I end up making mistakes...
