  1. I say it likely does him a lot of good to be on your diet! The celiac diet is healthier (unless you eat only gluten-free junk food, of course).
  2. Yes, getting a rash when glutened is quite common, it sure happens to me.
  3. You appear to have a VERY ignorant GI doctor. Of course your biopsy was negative, your villi had enough time to heal sufficiently for a negative biopsy. And villi won't get damaged enough in five days to produce enough damage for a positive biopsy. It can take six months to a year on a high gluten diet for enough damage to reoccur to test positive. ...
  4. Hi Amy, and welcome to this board. I hope your little daughter will improve quickly, and become that healthy, happy toddler she is meant to be on the gluten-free diet!
  5. Alison, I don't know what the common, offending ingredient could be, but there must be one. Why don't you try just using olive oil to moisturize for now? My homeopath recommended that for me, until I found out that it's high in salicylates. Otherwise I would try it, too.
  6. Deb, it seems to me that maybe you're gluten sensitive yourself, and might want to consider being 100% gluten-free as well. Especially since you say that you feel better gluten-free, and you're reacting to gluten.
  7. Chrissy, that's fabulous, you have your family together again. I am glad Tianna looks well. And as for Elliott, hey, a cubbyhole is perfect, it can be a cave, the belly of a big ship (and he the stowaway), a dungeon.........sounds pretty exciting to me!
  8. Hi Alex, I didn't answer your questions sooner, because I was on a trip, visiting relatives in Pembroke and Ottawa, and didn't have access to a computer (never mind Internet). My intolerances were identified through testing with a Vega machine. Only naturopaths have those, and not all of them, either. I know that some people think that those are quackery...
  9. If you use Immodium, be aware that the liquid Immodium has gluten in it. If you have two positive markers, you have celiac disease, even if the scope would be negative. Because the endoscopy often misses the damage.
  10. It may not have been pinned yet, I'll see if I can find it and pin it for you!
  11. Jenny, that sounds more like food poisoning to me than a gluten reaction. But since it came back out both ends in a big hurry you may have gotten rid of whatever it was quick, and will probably be better soon. I hope you'll be okay for your anniversary celebration!
  12. Well, in a way that is true. Even though sugar (even brown sugar) has been highly refined, and all the vitamins and other good things have been taken out of it, leaving only the bad stuff. Stevia is really just a herbal extract, and is considered a supplement. And really, from everything I have read (other than the bad-mouthing of companies that have a...
  13. Holly, were the biopsies taken after you were gluten-free for four months, or before? If they were taking after, then they are totally invalid, as your villi could have healed in that time.
  14. How old are your kids? It would depend on how first of all they'd pay attention, and if they're too small to understand, their grandparents would have to be known to be very diligent with the diet, and taking it very seriously.
  15. Julie, I am so glad that Eli is smiling again, as vaccines can cause irreversible brain damage and autism. Mind you, some children's immune systems can absolutely NOT handle more than one vaccination (or any for that matter), and the next time it may be completely overwhelmed. Any baby that has had a very bad reaction to the first vaccination shouldn...
  16. Alex, I found out about the nightshades by testing for intolerances (even though I suspected potatoes were a problem for a while before that, I had no clue that tomatoes were the reason for my migraines, and peppers the reason for the ugly pus-filled pimples I kept getting). I figured out about lectins and salicylates after following links somebody posted...
  17. I wouldn't use the same toaster for gluten-free and gluten bread, either, even if it has two sides and two receptacles. As far as I am concerned, it's way too risky. And what when you have visitors? Or children? Can you be sure that they will always remember? It would be better to just buy a toaster oven, and always use foil when toasting gluten-free...
  18. Julie, I am really sorry for what is happening to your baby. I am afraid that getting vaccinated has caused all this, and made him really sick. It is not likely that he got a virus other than what he got in the vaccines, they are the problem. Soy formula is a terrible idea for babies. I don't know what else to suggest, though. It sounds like your son...
  19. Hi Autumn, and welcome to this board. Well, at this point I am 'only' about 70 pounds overweight (after losing 20). Before I went on the gluten-free diet, my weight was steadily going up, no matter what I tried, and I would soon have been where you are now. Somebody explained it very well a while ago. She said that for some people, their body goes into...
  20. Not a dumb question at all, I've been wondering the same thing.
  21. Alex, miscarriages are a common symptom of celiac disease, I've had eight miscarriages between two and five months, and who knows how many of what you call subclinical ones! Since you're IgG and IgA deficient, and were off gluten before your biopsy, both your blood tests and your biopsy were worthless when it comes to a celiac disease diagnosis. Seeing...
  22. Instead of making it a negative, as in saying "We can't have that", make it a positive, as in, "Elliot, you and I are special, and so we are going to have special food". Then you could let him know what there is to choose from, and you let him help you choose your 'own, special food'. Of course, if he asks, why? you'll have to explain, without looking upset...
  23. Well said. Thanks for taking the time to find your quotes of Dr. Green's book, I was too lazy to do the same.
  24. Elizabeth, you're partially wrong. Having a leaky gut makes matters worse. But in general, it is a bad idea to eat the very same thing every day, leaky gut or not.
  25. Erica, you have a very valid concern. It would be best if you wouldn't eat the same thing for more than two days in a row, and not have it again for three more days. I believe the best way is to rotate things to not be eaten more than once in four days. A good example of this problem is my pears. Peeled pears were the only fruit left to me that have no...
