ARCHIVED Blood Tests Negative
Ursa Major replied to tboss's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Really, there are thousands of celiacs out there who have beein misdiagnosed with IBS, which really is a junk diagnosis. Because, if you think about it, if you have an irritable bowel, SOMETHING must be irritating it! Many doctors will give that 'diagnosis' when they are clueless, but won't admit it, or else are too lazy to keep looking for the cause. Plus... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Overweight Pre-diagnosis?
Ursa Major replied to mythreesuns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A lot of us were/are overweight here, there is a whole thread to encourage each other while losing weight. What most doctors are unaware of is, that up to 40%, maybe more, of people with celiac disease have unexplained weight gain, rather than weight loss. Once your body is rid of the gluten, you'll likely start losing weight. -
ARCHIVED Any Natural Medicines To Help The Stomatch?
Ursa Major replied to guitarplayer4God's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use a homeopathic medicine called Sepia, it helps my stomach pain. -
ARCHIVED "problem Pregnancies", Pre-term And Celiac
Ursa Major replied to wonkabar's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, since I've had a hysterectomy five years ago, I can't prove it was caused by celiac disease. My health was just deteriorating more and more, and I'd have my period for ten days at a time. Seven of those I would bleed so heavily that many times I thought I was hemorrhaging and almost went to the hospital. Then I had two weeks in between, and start bleeding... -
ARCHIVED "problem Pregnancies", Pre-term And Celiac
Ursa Major replied to wonkabar's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had five horrible pregnancies, and at least eight miscarriages. My sister, who has obvious celiac disease symptoms, but is in denial, lost four babies due to aging placentas with big cysts in them, one at three months, twins at six months (one lived for a week) and one died inside of her at eight months. After that she had her tubes tied, because she was... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone & Infertility? Newbie Questions
Ursa Major replied to Skeet's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You definitely ought to start using a different detergent. Many people think that gluten touching the skin won't have an effect, but I beg to differ. When I was using shampoo with wheat germ oil in it, my head used to be covered in rashes, and the itching would drive me out of my mind. Now my head rarely gets that insane itch. I use Dove shampoo and conditioner... -
ARCHIVED Dapsone & Infertility? Newbie Questions
Ursa Major replied to Skeet's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have read that yes, untreated celiac disease (and anybody who has DH has celiac disease) can result in infertility in both women and men. If the dapsone also has infertility listed as a possible side effect, then the gluten and the Dapsone combined is a double whammy! Meaning, once he is completely off both, you have a chance of being able to 'make'... -
ARCHIVED Parasites
Ursa Major replied to key's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Robbin, last year in May I tried a parasite cleanse from the health food store, because I thought I've had the symptoms that could suggest parasites for a very long time. Well, I was feeling worse every day, until, after a week, I went into full-blown celiac disease (I guess that cleanse was just the last straw). I had chronic, liquid diarrhea for six months... -
Hi Russ, and welcome to this board. I hope you find the information you need here, and that you will contribute to our conversations. We all learn from each other here.

ARCHIVED Osteoporosis And Medication
Ursa Major replied to Susantg3's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sue, another problem with those medications appears to be the potential of necrosis of the jaw (as in rotting away). Plus, they don't really rebuild bone, but prevent your body from getting rid of old cells. So, your bone looks denser on the scans, but it will consist of older cells, which will be more brittle. Not exactly an improvement, if you ask me. ... -
ARCHIVED So Down Right Now About Enterolab Results On My Kids
Ursa Major replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, in kids depression doesn't necessarily get expressed the same way as in adults. Being very sensitive and emotional could be signs of depression. Anyway, I do believe that they may have symptoms you aren't aware of. You may be surprised by the changes in them once they have been both gluten-free and casein free for a while. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin E?
Ursa Major replied to NancyKay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It saying gluten free may not mean anything. Because in Europe they claim that there is no gluten in wheat germ oil or wheat starch, and I am sure that belief is widespread here, too, your vitamin E may still be made from wheat germ oil! And d-alpha Tocopheryl is the natural form of vitamin E, which is very likely derived from wheat germ oil. -
ARCHIVED So Down Right Now About Enterolab Results On My Kids
Ursa Major replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sarah, my husband has a cousin who is casein intolerant. Her only symptom when she has milk products is severe depression, no digestive symptoms at all! For a while she was severely depressed, nothing helped. Because milk allergy runs in the family, she eliminated milk (her mother and father are/were both doctors), and the depression went away within days... -
ARCHIVED 6 Month Check Up Help
Ursa Major replied to floridanative's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What were your numbers when diagnosed? I assume they have gone down a lot, or your doctor wouldn't tell you you're doing a great job with the gluten-free diet. Two are still slightly elevated, but it takes time to completely heal. So, I think your doctor is right, you're doing well. Are you feeling much better? -
ARCHIVED Questions About Inhaling Wheat Flour And The Soy Family
Ursa Major replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Elizabeth, I have a friend with a daughter with celiac disease. The girl goes to college, but when she comes home, her mom cannot use her breadmaker to bake her own bread (she normally never buys bread), because Liz (another Elizabeth ) would get really sick otherwise. So, apparently, using a breadmaker with regular flour in a household of someone... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated...
Ursa Major replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How terribly upsetting it must be, to try to help your baby, knowing something is wrong, and being threatened for wanting to help him! What is wrong with those people? I agree, call your pediactrician. And if he/she is no help, find a new one who is. I will pray for you and your baby. -
ARCHIVED Enterlab Results - Really?
Ursa Major replied to PatrickCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Patrick, now that you said that, I remember getting those awful vibration feelings in different parts of my body for years! I was afraid of telling people about it, because they were already saying that I wasn't doing more because I was lazy, and making things up to get out of working harder. They thought I had a mental problem. Anyway, those vibrations... -
Check out the link in my signature on lectins. Maybe that will give you some clues. By the way, buckwheat is NOT a grain, but a seed. I get almost the same reaction to rice as I do to gluten grains. I am intolerant to all grains, but also to all starches (reaction not as bad, and tolerated once in a while), as well as eggs, legumes, dairy and nightshades...

Robin, I know how frustrating this is. I broke my right ankle four years ago in April. I got one of the worst, most ignorant (not to mention abusive) doctors in town when I went to the ER. He did EVERYTHING wrong, and as a result my ankle will still swell every day, and often throb with pain day and night. It will never be the same. I sure hope that your...

ARCHIVED Enterlab Results - Really?
Ursa Major replied to PatrickCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Patrick, I understand that you don't like what you see. But really, you know exactly what all this means. So, take a deep breath, thank God (if you believe in Him) that you don't have cancer and other more nasty things yet and come out of denial. There are no ifs, buts and maybes here, the diagnosis is clear, everybody you have seen this far (yes, even... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Diagnosed With Biopsy And Had Negative Blood Work?
Ursa Major replied to Chelle15's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What were the two positive markers exactly? It sounds to me like he dismisses positive bloodwork as not meaning anything, when he might be totally wrong. -
ARCHIVED High Ttg After "gluten Free" Hospital Stay
Ursa Major replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yikes! As others said before, hospitals are definitely NOT safe places for people with celiac disease. Very sad and infuriating. Good thing Tianna is home now, where she'll be looked after properly! -
ARCHIVED Less Than 0.02% Gluten In Minute Made Frozen Lemonade
Ursa Major replied to Tori's Dad's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If it has any amounts of gluten in it, I'd say, don't drink it. Why risk a reaction? Some people wouldn't have an obvious reaction with that amount, while others would get quite ill. -
ARCHIVED Should I Have An Endoscopy? (long)
Ursa Major replied to FreeTime's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you haven't gone gluten-free yet, and the endoscopy is already scheduled, I'd say, go for it. If it is positive, you have an official diagnosis. If it is negative, go gluten-free anyway to see if it makes a difference. You can't really lose either way, in my opinion. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin E?
Ursa Major replied to NancyKay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nancy, I had severe asthma as a child, not too bad for many years, almost died about 12 years ago from a severe attack, and then much better again. But I've found that since gluten, lectin and salicylate free, the asthma is much improved. When I was testing the lectins, I found after trying egg one night, I was wheezing the next morning! So, there are...
