ARCHIVED Infertility And Celiac
Ursa Major replied to Lisa Smith's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Lisa, and welcome to our board. The answer to your question is, yes, it is entirely possible that the celiac disease is the cause for your failure to conceive (or have early miscarriages, whatever the case may be). I've also always had normal periods (if you want to call PMS, terrible cramps, very heavy bleeding normal), and I'd conceive very easily... -
ARCHIVED If You Had Hypoglycemia Did It Go Away After Being Gluten Free?
Ursa Major replied to Sarah8793's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Tiffany, I completely agree with you on this one, as I've had the same experience. I find that now, since I've eliminated all the foods I'm intolerant to, I can eat even just one or two well balanced meals, with frequent snacks in between (NOT sugary snacks) and be fine. -
ARCHIVED I Am Just Bummed . . . .
Ursa Major replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lynne, you have my prayers as well. I just read through this whole thread, and by the time I read Karen's reply I was crying. She is right. Really, you shouldn't even try to walk down that isle. But it isn't important whether you manage to do that or not (even though it's disappointing if you can't), it is important that you're there with and for your daughter... -
ARCHIVED Neg Blood Work, Pos. Biopsy? (any Help?)
Ursa Major replied to dahams04's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, the bloodwork is not always reliable in children that small. If the biopsy was positive for celiac disease, then there is absolutely now question whatsoever that Hunter has celiac disease. He has to be on a gluten-free diet for life. And yes, I mean, for his entire life, even when he has fully recovered. He will NEVER outgrow celiac disease, don't ever... -
Tracey, I am sorry you feel so bad. But let's try to look on the bright side: Now you have no more doubts and know you are obviously severely gluten intolerant. That's a good thing. You won't ever be tempted to try gluten again. Your kids will survive, eating chocolate for breakfast won't kill them. They probably thought it was cool. You're not a bad mom...

ARCHIVED Do You Feel Better On A High/moderate Fat Or Low Fat Diet?
Ursa Major replied to mle-ii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel absolutely rotten if I don't get enough saturated fat. I cook with lard, and others will often not want to eat my 'greasy' food (I can't tolerate butter or coconut oil, which I'd prefer). I need to be on a high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diet, or I lose all energy. -
Hi Kate, and welcome to our board.

ARCHIVED My Baby Seems To Be Wasting Away!
Ursa Major replied to mistybearclaw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lynne, you may well be right with your assessment, that Christina has all the problems you described, and that the suggested therapy would be helpful. But, and this is a big but, you would be treating symptoms. What causes these symptoms? It could well be celiac disease. That goes for the neurological as well as the physical symptoms, as celiac disease can... -
Tiffany, could you please clarify exactly how you make that beef jerky? I want to try it, but really don't know how to do it!

ARCHIVED Any Advice On Starting gluten-free Please?
Ursa Major replied to Deb O (UK)'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Deb, and welcome to this board. You definitely shouldn't wait until November to start the diet. Many people here have had the experience that a lot of dieticians were so ignorant of celiac disease anyway, that they were next to useless. For starters, you need to know that gluten is in wheat, rye, barley, triticale, and possibly oats (the experts still... -
How about potatoes wrapped in tin foil to be baked in the ashes of the campfire? gluten-free bread to toast over the fire, gluten-free hot dogs, bacon and eggs for breakfast, or pancakes with jam or maple syrup, gluten-free pasta, take along some gluten-free cookies, fruit..........there are so many options! If you have a jerky gun you could make your...

Do you have an official diagnosis of celiac disease now, or are you still searching for the answers? Yes, celiac disease is genetic, and if your problem is celiac disease, then your symptoms as a child are definitely related as well. I've had symptoms of celiac disease all my life, but no doctor ever clued in in their ignorance, I had to figure it out myself...

ARCHIVED Reading Dr. Green's Book And Feeling Angry
Ursa Major replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, it IS an excellent book. But there are a few points Dr. Greene makes that I've had to ignore, as unfortunately, the good man isn't perfect and has some old-fashioned, outdated opinions. The one you mentioned is one of them, which made me angry as well. But he has some very insightful information, too, so don't stop reading because of him being... -
Jennifer, my understanding is that being gluten-free will help a lot of people feel better that are, like you, not genetically predisposed to celiac disease or not even officially gluten intolerant. You may have some sort of sensitivity to gluten, or a wheat allergy (which you may want to test for). What symptoms do you have (or had) on gluten? Are you...

ARCHIVED My Baby Seems To Be Wasting Away!
Ursa Major replied to mistybearclaw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Misty, if Christina's bloodwork comes back negative for celiac disease (it is very unreliable for children that small), I would suggest testing with Enterolab Open Original Shared Link, or if you can't afford that, just putting her on the gluten-free and dairy free diet to see if she will improve. All the symptoms you describe could very well be celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Kept Getting Glutened
Ursa Major replied to Ursa Major's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I think the regular Lindt dark chocolate is okay, but you better check the label next time you buy it, there is no guarantee it's still safe! -
ARCHIVED Kept Getting Glutened
Ursa Major posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The reason I am posting this is, to remind people to re-check ingredients on foods you think are gluten-free, because they've 'always been' gluten-free. Well, my favourite chocolate is Lindt Lindor dark chocolate (with a cream centre). Last year it definitely had no gluten in it (even though it had a tiny bit of dairy and soy, which seemed okay and not... -
ARCHIVED Waiting To Hear From My Dumb Doctors
Ursa Major replied to Alexander's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alexander, I found that I was unable to tolerate anything raw for several months after going gluten-free last year. And I mean even fruit needed to be well cooked (nothing crunchy or partially cooked). For fruit you can just buy applesauce or canned fruit, if you don't feel like cooking it yourself. Why don't you try stir fry? That's usually what I eat... -
I believe that carbonation could be a problem, especially if your intestines are still in the healing process. I wasn't able to tolerate anything carbonated for months, and can once in a while have some now without too much discomfort.

ARCHIVED Waiting To Hear From My Dumb Doctors
Ursa Major replied to Alexander's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Azmom, check your messages, I sent you a PM. -
I used to get boils regularly as a child, and once in a while since. Now only sometimes when glutened.

ARCHIVED Frustrated At The New gluten-free Diet Rollercoaster
Ursa Major replied to Aerin328's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Several things come to mind: 1) Yes, you could still be reacting to the milk three days later. In fact, you could be potentially reacting to it for up to two weeks. 2) The rice flour from the health food store was contaminated via glutenous flour getting in by various possible sources. Where is the bin located, is there anything containing gluten nearby... -
ARCHIVED Waiting To Hear From My Dumb Doctors
Ursa Major replied to Alexander's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Alexander, I am glad you finally figured out what's wrong with you. Just forget about that one idiot doctor, he is the kind to be ignored for sure. Good for you to decide to just stick with the diet, no matter what any of them say. I hope you get completely well quickly. -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed After Dr Visit Today
Ursa Major replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kendra, I am sorry that your doctors are insisting on all this testing, and torturing little Kirsten (and you, by watching) with taking all this blood. If they both had a positive IgG, and had a positive dietary response to the gluten-free diet, I have no doubt that they both have celiac disease. Your first doctor was ignorant enough not to know that initially... -
ARCHIVED Strange Eye Movements And Twitches
Ursa Major replied to lonewolf's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Liz, he has some of the very same symptoms as me, and they are possibly Tourette syndrome, not OCD. I find that my tics aren't as bad since I've gone gluten-free, but always increase under stress. And the eye blinking is the only one I have absolutely no control over (most other tics I can suppress for a while, but eventually they have to come out, or my...
