ARCHIVED Is Colgate Toothpaste Gluten-free?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tailz, if Tom's of Maine has a strawberry toothpaste, forget it. ALL berries are out on a low salicylate diet. Really, there is NOTHING in a tube that doesn't have something you don't want in it. Trust me on that, I've tried finding a toothpaste I can use, and you might as well save the time and forget it. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dried fruits are very high in salicylates. If I'd eat them with orange juice, I'd be in agony within hours. You sure sound like salicylates are a huge problem for you! I agree, try eliminating them, and then test yourself. But really, it sounds like you already know the answer. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I found the best way to test for salicylate intolerance is by an elimination diet. For a couple of weeks stop eating and drinking food and drink high in salicylates, and then do what I did (minus the Aspirin, I realize now that was very dangerous and could have put me into anaphylactic shock). After two weeks of no salicylates (during which time all my fibromyalgia... -
ARCHIVED Lab Tests....
Ursa Major replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Julie, what Nancy didn't mention is, that not only are they the only ones testing for celiac disease with stool tests, but also that those tests are a lot more accurate than the blood tests, and more sensitive. -
ARCHIVED Is Colgate Toothpaste Gluten-free?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tailz, the link is in my signature. My signature is under all my posts, where it says: intolerant to salicylates, that's the link to follow, just click on that. I have put some baking soda into an empty (washed) skin-creme container, and just dip my damp toothbrush into that. A little goes a long way, a lot would feel awfully salty (yuck). Rinne, fluoride... -
Flax is a seed, not a grain. Which doesn't necessarily mean that you can't be having a reaction to it, of course.

ARCHIVED Alternative Cure? Or Am I Just Hopeful?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Doll, I say: Beware of Quackwatch! They will diss ANYTHING that doesn't make Big Pharma money, and are therefore, in my books, highly suspect. And that picture of the man who's skin is sort of grey, hey, where is the proof that it isn't a fake? I've read many of their articles/stories, and I wouldn't trust them at all. They are the quacks for the most part... -
ARCHIVED Is Colgate Toothpaste Gluten-free?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I said in my reply to your question about smells: Look for other intolerances. Colgate has mint flavour in it, which is extremely high in salicylates, and makes me ill. I brush my teeth with baking soda, because all tootpastes make me ill. Check out the link in my signature on salicylates. It might be your answer. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Get Glutened From Perfume? Smell Of Wheat?
Ursa Major replied to tailz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This sounds an awful lot like other intolerances to me. I will get a reaction to smells, too, because of my salicylate intolerance. Perfumes are loaded with salicylates, and make me quite ill. The symptoms are similar to some of the ones I get when glutened (headache, achiness, lightheadedness, fatigue). -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Could Be A Frequent Disease In Mexico
Ursa Major replied to mle-ii's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Normally their staple grain would be corn, I believe. Since these were blood donors, I assume they live in the cities and have adopted a more 'modern' lifestyle, including eating wheat. Which is not part of their traditional diet, and could therefore be a big problem. Makes perfect sense to me. -
Emily, I am having the same problem. I was chatting with my sister on google chat yesterday, and asked her when she will get tested for celiac disease. She told me she did, and she definitely doesn't have it, since her bloowork came back negative. End of story. She has ALL the same symptoms I've had and more, she is never well. I asked her why she won't at...

I'm stumped here. I went to check out all your posts, and the last one before this one was from August 11th. Meaning, the one you're looking for (your reply from yesterday) doesn't exist. Somehow it didn't post, apparently.

Carla, thanks for starting this thread and the link. I read through it, and I have all but two of the symptoms! Even though the diet has brought my pain, diarrhea and bowel problems under control and made me much better, I am still always awfully tired. I have heart palpitations all the time, too, and all the other symptoms. After reading through the...

ARCHIVED So Ticked Off!
Ursa Major replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How very annoying, how do they manage to do things like that, and then not let you know right away? But that kind of problem and attitude seems to be rather typical. I hope having blood taken again won't be too bad, and the next time everything goes as planned. And hopefully you'll get some answers. -

Ursa Major replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I did a google search and verified that Tums aren't gluten-free, and neither are Rolaids. Sorry about that! But it's better you find out than making yourself sicker with something that's supposed to help. -
ARCHIVED Beets, Pink Urine And Celiac Connection?
Ursa Major replied to Jennas-auntie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mike, you crack me up. Okay, what some of you said puts my mind at ease, I agree that having pink pee with fresh beets is probably perfectly normal. -
ARCHIVED My Big Fat Negative Biopsy
Ursa Major replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kris, if I am not mistaken (and somebody please correct me if I am), the Tums are not gluten-free. I agree, since your daughter has celiac disease, and your blood test was somewhat positive, you might as well just be gluten-free as well. Don't give up on your tonsils quite yet, they may improve being gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Beets, Pink Urine And Celiac Connection?
Ursa Major replied to Jennas-auntie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, I did, and I thought it was just normal. You know, licorice would turn my stool black, beets would turn my urine pink.........seemed like a logical, normal thing........except, maybe I'm wondering now whether it was. But I'm not the only one in my family who's urine will turn pink from beets. I wonder why now. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says I'm Nuts!
Ursa Major replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ah yes, floating stool........that shows you're not absorbing fats, which is bad. And very common for celiac disease. Also, you may have tested on the very low end of normal for iron, which would cause most doctors with half a brain to tell you to take supplements, rather than telling you your iron is fine. This doctor (and I almost hesitate still calling... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism And Fluoride
Ursa Major replied to elye's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Doll, any poison will suppress your immune system. You overload your body with poison, and it it will react and get sick. Fluoride is poison, no doubt about it. It is a byproduct of the fertilizer industry, which they used to have to dispose of as toxic waste, which costs money. Then somebody (don't remember his name right now) decided that fluoride was supposed... -
ARCHIVED Just Got Bad News
Ursa Major replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Nikki, I am sorry that now your second child has been diagnosed. The good thing is, that you already know what to do, and it will simplify some things for you, as the kids will now eat the same diet. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Says I'm Nuts!
Ursa Major replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others. Your doctor is totally, utterly wrong with EVERYTHING she said. My advice is: Do NOT go to a psychologist, do NOT take antidepressants, do NOT have an MRI of your stomach, or anything else this doctor is trying to order you to do. Your iron and vitamins might be okay because your villi aren't (yet) totally destroyed, and you still...
