  1. I have seen gluten-free vanilla wafers before (don't know the brand, as I can't eat them anyway). Mind you, they were rather expensive. I imagine that either gloves, or making sure your son will wash his hands right afterwards should be fine, if normal wafers are used. Of course, it will be hard to keep him from touching his mouth, gloves or not, as he...
  2. Actually, that is already the way I eat. As for GM foods, I find that I can't tolerate any lectins, which include all grains, GM or not, as well as all dairy, eggs, legumes and nightshades. I am feeling much better, but the fatigue is still extreme, and is obviously NOT improving on the diet I am on right now. My joint and muscle pain, as well as the...
  3. The truth is, that NOBODY needs any grains at all to be healthy, and the food pyramid is a hoax. Your diet sounds very much like mine, and I don't believe I am missing any essential nutrients. Keep doing what you're doing, the way you eat will definitely not impact your health negatively.
  4. Steve, but will one bottle full of it (whatever it is you choose) be enough to bring down a plane? I have my doubts.
  5. I'm sorry if it seemed that I was attacking you personally. Not at all. You asked what people thought about the product, and I did some research on it and posted my thoughts. Not AT YOU, but ABOUT the product. I never assumed you were planning on using it instead of staying on the diet. Just thought I'd clarify that. Please do let us know how it works...
  6. I believe that it is definitely possible that Lyme disease can trigger active celiac disease. But I don't believe it can actually CAUSE it. Definite genes have been identified that predispose you for celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Lyme disease has no affiliation to any specific genes, but rather, it is caused by a pathogen. Once Lyme disease is...
  7. All the Lyme Disease symptoms fit me, especially that I had fibromyalgia. But I believe that I have celiac disease anyway, with the possible addition of either Lyme disease or adrenal fatigue (which can be caused by either Lyme disease or celiac disease, or both). My many food intolerances can also have been caused by adrenal fatigue or Lyme disease. I really...
  8. Well, if you'd read the original post, you'll realize that the only reason we're talking about water is, that people can't take their own water on air planes anymore, due to the restrictions governments put on airlines, because of a perceived terrorist threat. Namely, somebody coming onto an airplane with bottles that have in them what LOOKS like water, but...
  9. I think this product is highly suspect. It will make them a bundle, while it has not been proven safe. Or I rather should say, it has not been proven to keep people safe, if they take it and get off their diet. The first statement one site made is this: I think that is a very irresponsible statement. How is the diet only effictive in the short term...
  10. Autumn, why bother with another GI? I am not sure what good it will do. You know you feel better off gluten, just keep it up. Your doctor is wrong in dismissing the need for a bone density scan. My mother was obese, and likely had celiac disease as well (she had all the same symptoms as me). When she was about my age (between 50 and 55), my father hugged...
  11. In the meantime, a lot of them are in prison, having been arrested on very flimsy evidence at best, hardly a good example of western justice. Mouse and Viola, did I say drink CREEK water? Of course not. I said 'Spring Water', as in water as it comes out of the ground, BEFORE it can get contaminated by animals. I have no intentions of drinking creek water...
  12. I find that the high chlorine content in our water tends to give me eczema and hives. Also, it could be something in your soap, something you ate other than gluten................unfortunately, the possibilities are pretty endless.
  13. As Leah mentioned, it depends on what you eat. If you want to cut out grains and starches in general, including substitute junk food (making them only an occasional treat), then yes, you could definitely benefit healthwise. And so would your husband. If, on the other hand, you buy substitutes for everything you ate previously, like gluten-free bread,...
  14. You're right, it is definitely still water. But why BUY tap water, when you can buy spring water? It doesn't seem to make any sense at all. But if that's all that's available on a plane, I'd rather drink Dasani water than get dehydrated. Sometimes we just can't be that fussy. I doubt that Dasani water will harm anybody short term.
  15. Jess, I agree, this is awful on many levels. For therapists to tell a kid to do something that would make somebody sick is inexcusable. It teaches the child that it is okay to play dangerous tricks on people, to keep secrets, to bully others (because it is a form of bullying) and other things I can't think of right now. Your collegues were being mean spiritited...
  16. Uhmmmmmm...........Dasani IS tap water. To be specific, it is purified tap water from Toronto, Canada. So, they take tap water (and Toronto water is fluoridated, meaning, I am sure it has fluoride in it), filter it and add some minerals (and who knows how high quality those are?), bottle it and sell it. I don't buy Dasani water if I can help it. Has anybody...
  17. Well, you figured it out, welcome to the club of us 'hypochondriacs' who had idiot doctors all their lives. I had to figure out my intolerances (including gluten) by myself as well. You decide if you need an 'official' diagnosis or not. If you do, no need to go back on gluten, you could just get tested by Enterolab (Open Original Shared Link). It would...
  18. Excellent decision.......when the reaction is that obvious it simply isn't worth it.
  19. I didn't suggest anything with peanut butter, because here in Canada, snacks with peanut butter wouldn't be allowed, because there may be a kid with a deadly allergy in the school.
  20. How about: Home baked yummy gluten-free cookies, celery sticks with spreadable cheese, a veggie tray with dip (surprisingly, when I bring that to church when we have a potluck lunch, it's the little kids that go for it first, they love it), gluten-free muffins, fruit...............I am sure others will have other ideas.
  21. Since I can't have cornstarch, rice flour or potato flour, I use light buckwheat flour to do this, and it ends up fabulous, everybody loves the gravy.
  22. That's interesting about the high copper levels. I've never really eaten a lot of the high copper foods, though. I have made an appointment to see a naturopath next week, and will mention that also. I hope they'll know what they're doing and get the appropriate testing done to figure out why I'm so exhausted all the time.
  23. You know, I used to LOVE tomatoes. I'd eat them all summer long, every day. I also had migraines all summer long, sometimes lasting three weeks at a time, practically living on pain killers, and not being able to function. Then, when I was tested for intolerances and found out I was intolerant to nightshades, and quit eating tomatoes, those long-lasting...
  24. You know, three of my kids wouldn't accept anything other than breastmilk from the breast (they'd spit a bottle nipple out in disgust, and wouldn't allow a spoon in their mouth, or any food) until they were nine months old. Then, fairly suddenly, they decided they wanted solids, and liked them so much that they refused breastmilk soon afterwards and weaned...
  25. Matt, since you're only 15, as long as you really are diligent with the diet, you should recover fully (which doesn't mean not having celiac disease any more). The older you are when diagnosed, the less chance of all the damage being reversible.
