  1. Susie (love that name, it's my youngest daughter's), have you been tested for ferretin (iron) levels and levels of vitamin D, K, potassium, magnesium and calcium? A deficiency in any of those (more likely a combination) could be causing your weakness. It happened to me when I was anemic, my legs were so weak that many days I couldn't stand up, and had to...
  2. Personally (and this is just my opinion), I believe that if your skin is pricked and something applied to the cut, it WILL end up in your bloodstream. If it gets into your bloodstream, it can get into your bowels and cause a reaction there (or in your case, in your lungs). I am very skeptical when it comes to the theory of things being applied to your...
  3. Nancy, sunshine is the best way, if you can get it. The problem is, that unless you live somewhere close enough to the equator (California and Florida are good), that is only enough during the summer, and only during the hottest times of the day. At this time of year, depending on where you live, for most people just sunshine wouldn't be enough. Especially...
  4. Right, if he is determined that you don't have celiac before he starts, he will try hard not to find it to support his preconceived ideas. Many doctors and so-called scientists do that. And if what they find isn't what they wanted, they'll dismiss it and keep looking for what they want to find. Idiots! Our 'health care' these days really is 'sick care...
  5. Cornbread, those sound like hives.........even though when I get hives, they usually are itchy. But you can get hives from all kinds of different intolerances, I do.
  6. Hi Valery, and welcome to our site. The salad might be perfectly fine........in a couple of weeks. I had chronic diarrhea for six months last summer, and ALL raw food would go right through me within half an hour, even after going gluten free. I found that I could only handle well cooked vegetables (nothing that bloats, either) like carrots, you might try...
  7. Having gained that little isn't much of an improvement, it's still quite low. You might want to supplement with cod liver oil to up your vitamin D levels. The best brand (and this one doesn't even taste yucky, I know, I take it every day) is Carlsons cod liver oil. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium and magnesium. If your vitamin D is low, those...
  8. Well, I never LOOKED malnourished, as I was gaining instead of losing weight, but I was low in several nutrients. My feet used to get awfully swollen, by night they'd be blown up like balloons. I never have swollen feet any more now. You might want to consider that you may have other intolerances as well, not just gluten. The swelling could be a reaction...
  9. Yes, I had all of those problems, too, and I do believe they're related to celiac. Two biopsies really isn't enough, it's unfortunately possible that he would have missed the damage, if there is any. Maybe he also didn't go far enough with the camera to find spots with damage. No matter what the results are, if being gluten free makes you feel better,...
  10. Actually, there may be another way! If you have a skin biopsy and are positively diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis, that would mean that you automatically have a firm celiac diagnosis. Because ONLY celiac disease causes DH, and the only cure for DH is the gluten free diet. So, have your doctor refer you to a dermatologist to look at your rash, and...
  11. Nessa, I understand your sadness. I hardly felt that, because I had been so ill before diagnosis, and was finally just able to eat some things without getting sick. I am not sure if you ever stop being tempted by the food you see everybody else eat. But if you make sure you have some things you love handy for snacks for those times, you will manage without...
  12. Oh, how convenient for him! Lets not bother to find out what IS irritating the bowel, and use a bandaid solution to cover up the symptoms. I say, time to find a new doctor who is actually willing to put up the effort to find out what is CAUSING your symptoms! I am not saying that Immodium is bad, it works to help you feel better when necessary. But it...
  13. I agree, it would just be a waste of time and money. Obviously you know what you're doing, you feel great, no need to bother.
  14. Well, I was sick for 52 years, having had celiac symptoms all my life. I've had fibromyalgia for many years, caused by the celiac disease, anemia, depression and many other things. I don't expect for 52 years of accumulated damage to be fixed overnight. But I am so much better than I was six months ago! I was on codeine 24 hours a day for the pain for...
  15. Wow, your doctor sounds awfully caring! (NOT) That makes me angry for sure! My doctor may be ignorant, but she actually cares. Yes, the positive result is positive for Celiac disease. There is only one treatment, and that is the gluten free diet. And yes, chronic anemia is one of the most common, telltale signs of celiac disease. The other problems...
  16. I was severely anemic a few years ago. Many days I was so weak that I was unable to get up, my legs would just buckle under me, and that was that. I took high doses of iron then, which made me so sick to my stomach that I was just in agony, and unable to stand up straight! I got iron shots, and they made an immediate difference (even though I needed two...
  17. Hi Erica, yes, if you are diagnosed with DH by a dermatologist, you automatically have a firm celiac disease diagnosis, as ONLY Celiac disease causes DH. And a gluten free diet is the only cure for the rash. How long will the rash last? Who knows? Everybody is different. It could be there for weeks, months, or just a couple of days. No guarantie it's still...
  18. Carrie, who says that you have to eat 'breakfast foods' for breakfast? If I would go by that, I could never eat breakfast again! I eat meat or fish and vegetables for every meal, and peeled pears, banana chips, nuts and dark chocolate for snacks. So, my breakfast is usually stir-fry (I can't eat eggs).
  19. Marcia, even though MOST people get DH in those usual areas doesn't mean you couldn't get them anywhere at all. I've seen pictures on the Internet of DH pretty much anywhere on your body. And those oozing blisters are pretty typical, no matter where they are. I don't know what stage the blister (or bump or pimple) should be in to do the biopsy. You will need...
  20. Hi Nicole, I don't believe it's candida. Maybe you should get a skin biopsy? If you get diagnosed with DH (if that is what it is, but if it isn't, that would be a little too much of a coincidence, as you JUST started eating gluten again!), you're automatically diagnosed with Celiac disease. By the way, I used to get the same problem, especially in the...
  21. Well, you sound like me. I cannot tolerate any grains, and ALL starches make me gain weight. I eat anything starchy only as an occasional treat (once a week max, usually less), as it makes me gain weight instantly. As long as I stay away from starches, I keep losing weight. So, you might not be able to have all those tasty gluten free treats, that are...
  22. Marcia, it is definitely possible that those bumps are DH. You might want to get a skin biopsy next time you get those. If you are diagnosed with DH, you automatically have a firm diagnosis of celiac disease.
  23. Okay, I won't address all of you separately, but have seen many things I have in common with most of you. I used to have such awful pain everywhere, that I was on codeine 24 hours a day, just to manage, as it just took the edge off the pain. Initially, the pain went away almost completely (I don't think it will ever be totally gone, I've had it from the...
  24. Wow, Carrie, EVERY single one of your listed symptoms is quite typical for celiac disease! By the way, constipation is also very common. I used to get a lot of constipation, with the occasional bout of diarrhea from earliest childhood. Only last summer, when I went into full blown celiac disease did I end up with chronic diarrhea for six months, until I went...
  25. It is possible, that there is hidden gluten in it. But it is also possible that you have intolerances to things other than gluten as well, and that you reacted to one of the listed ingredients.
