  1. Here is the problem. All these so called wishy washy experts feeding them misinformation. Now the ones who should be sued are the experts. Do we see people suing them or doctors for giving out the truly stupid and wrong information that they do? No, we don't by the same token no one is suing the people who were feeding their children stuff that makes them sick or is bad for them.

I had a doctor once who told me that there was no such thing in his eyes as hypoglycemia or Celiac disease and that Thyroid disesase can't kill anyone. Needless to say he almost killed me. The problems are arising from so called experts etc., who put their own twists into things, not scientific evidence.

  2. I was discussing this with another fellow and we had both commented on the ridiculousness of the law suits. He said his wife had loved milk and now no longer can drink it because she gets violently ill from it. These lawsuits on McDonalds are the same as if he tries to sue the farmer or the cow because his wife can no longer drink milk.

I am going to play the devils advocate on this one and risk being told I am hateful etc.

I an not one who likes big corporations having monopolies but I like unfairness more. These lawsuits areasinine to say the least. If you are getting sick from something you quit doing it, if you don't you suffer the consequences of your stupid actions.

These parents should be sued by their children for continuing to endanger their lives with things that they fed them that made them sick. Not only that but they were feeding them unhealthy greasy garbage on top of it and continued to do so. I suppose the flip side would be to have the parents charged with child endangerment and attempted murder. No one twisted their arms and made them feed the kids this stuff. If they were the least bit worried about their child being sick they should have made french fries at home instead.

I think perhaps if everyone wrote a letter to their local papers or even McDonalds stating that, as Celiacs we are against this and then stating our reasons might help. I am sure; as

people who are not out for the money grab, telling it like it is could garner as much media attention and help our cause more than, what these people are doing to defeat our cause.

  3. Jodikris, the doctor is a knob. Not all Celiac's have DH but ONLT Celiacs have DH. The dermatologist thought I was too fat to be Celiac and I made him do a skin biopsy for DH. Big surprise on him, it was DH making me a Celiac and since then I have lost 30 lbs. This is in less than three months.

Don't eat a biscuit because having DH you are a Celiac and biscuits, unless they are wheat/gluten-free are harmful to you.

He should be embarassed for being such a lame ass and suggesting a biscuit.

  4. I have worked in restaurants where the owner made food with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. After I lectured her on it, I was of course fired. I also worked in a place where if a burger or something fell on the floor the owner said to pick it up and put it on the grill, that will kill the germs. I informed him that it would not and did he like eating things off the floor, the dirty floor. Needless to say if it fell on the floor, I threw it in the garbage.

  5. I'm sorry if you think I was being hateful, but there is absolutely no way these people can know this quickly (and probably not at all) that the McD fries caused anything -- and certainly not seizures or ulcers. I'm sorry if their daughter has been sick, but I stick by what I said before -- if you or your child is that ill, the last place you should be eating is a place like McD. It's just common sense.

I so agree with you Richard. McD's is NOT food, not really or in my books. Since the onslaught of fast foods families rarely sit down to eat together. Fast foods are fast but not especially food. It is bad for your health, deep fried and causing heart attacks and gall bladder problems. Add a whole bundle of calories and tv and you have a very unhealthy life style.

You never realize how unhealthy until you have to change. I never did fast foods very much and not a lot of tv as there is nothing to watch. However, I know I had a lot more of an unhealthy diet than now. Eating greasy fried food is not good for anyone, never mind someone who is sick.

  6. I don't believe anyone is being hateful on here. The point is we are seeing where this will take the disease and it will make it more difficult for all of us. I find it tacky that they think we are not good enough to talk to other than when they want support to sue someone. These people were aware of the disease with their daughter but continued to feed them to her. If I eat something that makes me ill, I have enough brains not to do it again. I am not into suffering and I don't have to punish myself time after time to prove to myself that it does make me sick.

I am not a masochist and when I do something stupid, I don't feel anyone but myself should pay for it but I don't continuously repeat the action either. Therefore I would not also subject another person to something that would make them sick.

We are not bashing these people, we are stating our reasons on why we do not support these law suits and why it looks terribly greedy. I am not in agreement with any of the lawsuits and especially the one that says the fries gave her Celiac. That is a buncho of crapola.

  7. All these greedy jerks wanting to sue everyone for every thing is going to come down to one thing. Everyone who buys anything at a grocery store or restaurant is going to end up signing waivers stating if they get sick that the place is not responsible. If I ran a restuarant in light of what is now taking place, I would now close my doors or make everyone sign waivers.

What we have out there are greedy people trying to make a quick buck.

  8. The thing is I think one would have to be able to prove that MacDonald's not only intentionally but maliciously hid the information from people. They were only going by what the manufacturer told them and they were obviously given bad information about gluten. Not everyone is well informed on Celiac disease. Let's face it there are tons of doctors out there who have no clue about the disease either.

They may be a big corporation and yes they are interested in money. Just because they are not knowlegeable about Celiac does not show evil intent. How many of us were that knowlegeable before getting it.

I am not defending them at all just looking at it from a logical point.

  9. I would say that those people are looking for big bucks. Ever since the woman sued them for selling her hot coffee the money hungry world is bucking for a law suit. The thing is can they positively prove she is Celiac and tha,t it wasn't the dairy or the oil or something else that caused that reaction at that time.

However, the woman who bought hot coffee and then spilled it on herself. Then successfully sued them for selling her hot coffee was asinine. If you buy hot coffee you expect it to be hot. Eating out for us is risky and I have taken some of those risks, lucky for me without a lot of bad effects but I have had some.

When you roll the dice, you take the chance.

  10. It amazes me the callousness of people. I know my cats will never leave me because of my diseases or gluten me.

The best thing to ask those people is when is their spouse divorcing them for their callous and stupidity disease, after all we can control our disease obviously they can't control theirs. When people ask me what I can eat I tell them everything they can, just mine is better for me than theirs is for them.

  11. Welcome to the board Sherry. You will never find a place with more information and support than here. You will be amazed at what you will learn in such short of time. On here there are no dumb questions and we have all been down the same street just with a different pair of shoes.

  12. three of my kids are diagnosed with celiac, 3 have tested negative, 4 have not been tested yet, and one came back IgA deficient---so he needs more testing. we have a combined family---yours, mine and ours. we don't know which (or both?) sides the celiac is coming through, so we need to get them all tested. my son that doesn't want to know has had more symptoms over the last several years than any of the 3 that have tested positive. he also doesn't want to have to pay anymore medical bills. i am looking into a study for families with at least 2 diagnosed members-----it would pay for the testing, so then maybe i could get him to get it done.

Chrissy, (your name is one of my nom de plume's in writing)

Many people never want to know and from my own observation men are the ones who prefer to bury their heads in the sand. My brothers are that way, my son, my friend. They believe if they can't see it then, it doesn't exist and with this it does exist, won't go away and can kill. Believe me I know how frustrating dealing with stubborn kids can be. He must be a taurus, they are stubborn and bull-headed. If three have it he is most likely to have it with all of his symptons. My son who is now 33, still refuses to listen to things and the only way I get him to do anything about having himself checked for things is to ask him if he wants to see his kids grow up. I hope he can get covered with that plan then maybe he willl do something. I wish you the best of luck.
