  1. I can't buy Jelly Belly's or I eat them all....I LOVE Jelly Belly's!!!!!
  2. I know, I'm still early on in the process but how do you know if you are really gluten-free or not. I am being very careful checking labels, I am not eating out for the most part--minus a couple meals last weekend--probably 5 total restaurant meals in the past 2 months--all at places like Red Robin, 5 Guys. House is gluten-free totally. I'm traveling so...
  3. If he is having bloodwork done, might as well have the Celiac tests run as well. It's a good baseline so he can see if he is improving down the road, especially if he really does not have any symptoms. If he has been gluten-free for more than a couple weeks though, I don't know that it is worth going back on gluten to get an accurate reading.
  4. No, I was being looked at for something else and the dr added the Celiac testing and low and behold, I'm Celiac.
  5. That is not the total IgA test so, without those results, who knows???
  6. Growing only an inch during a time when they should be "sprouting up" would be concern enough for me, add in the other symptoms and I'd be on the phone tomorrow. Yes, it will cost money to go to Mayo, but you can minimize that by driving, etc. if need be. The Mayo model is pretty unique and after 150 years, I'm surprised more multi-specialty clinics have...
  7. She is not Celiac. The two really aren't the same thing, although they have similar symptoms. Her issues are more with getting sick all the time but she does have some digestive issues that again, are similar to Celiac but not because of gluten.
  8. Five Guys is mostly good. I ate at 5 guys the other week...all was well because I was only getting french fries, until I saw the fry gal walk over to the hamburger assembly line, handle hamburger buns, moved several hamburgers from one piece of foil to another, then walk back over to the fry station and start to load up bags of fries. I caught her in time...
  9. What about getting a loaf of gluten-free bread, toasting it so it's very crisp and making bread crumbs from that (a few slices). If you get Udi's or whatever, it stores in the freezer and you could have it on hand. Nuts will change the flavor of the food but that only matters if you care .
  10. Those sound good. I'll have to look for the pizza dough next trip. I was looking for the yogurt--but found the cookies instead. I really wanted Ice Cream, but no luck in that aisle.
  11. Found some Chocolate Chip cookie dough it a tub that you can scoop out and bake. I've only tried it raw--yes, my mom said not to eat raw dough, I'm a rebel. It was pretty good. It's a bit gritty but not bad. The flavor was JUST about what "real" cookie dough tastes like. I might bake up a few and see how they are.
  12. I was just noticing today that the top of my stomach/torso, was not as puffy as it had been--it was oddly shaped and just weird looking. Now that it's mostly gone, I'm pretty sure it was gluten related. I've been gluten-free since July. The rest of my torso is still puffy but that is because I weigh too much
  13. I'll make it clear that it's not something I want to do . I usually first ask for gluten-free and then depending on their reaction to that, I'll add I have Celiac Disease or a gluten allergy or whatever will make the biggest impact on them getting my food to me safe. I just so rarely eat out now that it's not a huge issue, but sometimes I just don't have...
  14. Mayo is in Rochester, MN. There are other branches other places but this is their main clinic. What differs there is that she will intake to a pediatric endocrinologist or similar. They will do a complete work up on her, get her history, review past medical records, etc. That appointment takes an hour or two. They then order tests and schedule appointments...
  15. The lack of growth would prompt me to seek further testing. I'd suggest taking him to the Mayo Clinic. They will look at him as a whole person vs just a symptom here and there and he will get a complete work up based on symptoms and findings. It sure beats trying to guess which doctor to see next. As for your labs--did they do a total IgG as well?...
  16. It's very "common". My daughter is IgA deficient and IgG subclass 2, 3 and 4 deficient. It's usually classified as CVID Open Original Shared Link . Each of the IgG subclasses point to different symptoms, 2 and 4 relate to upper respiratory issues--lots of sinus infections, strep, pneumonia, etc. Subclass 3 is digestive issues--which is why it's important...
  17. What I see is that your total IgA is low, thus your TT IgA test is not accurate. Given you have a 3 on a scale of 4-10, I would suspect with a normal total IgA that you are highly suspect for Celiac. I would get the scope and biopsies to get more information. I don't see a total IgG run so we don't know if those are going to be accurate or not.
  18. Ok--there is a Baskin Robbins near where I am working and I haven't been to one in YEARS because they all closed back home. I was thinking about making a detour on the way home but wasn't thinking about the cone residue.....
  19. If she is already gluten-free, skip the endoscope. Some schools will NOT do the accommodations without positive tests and endoscope--thanks to all of the "fad" dieters out there..... Sounds like you do have your answer! Glad to see she is improving in such a short time!
  20. Cream, Nonfat Milk, Peanut Butter Ribbon (Peanuts, Cottonseed and/or Peanut Oil, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Salt), Sugar, Corn Syrup, Chocolate Liquor and Cocoa processed with alkali, Whey Powder, Emulsifier/Stabilizer Blend (Cellulose Gum, Mono and Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Polysorbate 80). Along with these ingredients, would you get ice cream...
  21. Maybe I'm reading this wrong due to not having enough coffee, but based on the numbers supplied, her daughter's IgA levels are in the normal range. Also, young children often test on the low side for IgA and then that normalizes as they get a bit older. I don't see anything out of the ordinary with her total IgA. Thrillrose---with a child that young...
  22. Why did the clinic cancel your appointment, because of your labs? If so, call them back and make sure they know you are IgG and Iga deficient.
  23. tuberculosis I agree-I think better diagnosis is the root behind the "increase". Like most diseases and conditions, often in the past it went undiagnosed or lumped into a general category. Also keep in mind that people didn't live as long so many diseases/conditions just didn't appear or were not as severe as to be noticed. 100 years ago I probably...
  24. Tootsie Rolls are gluten-free--says so on the bag. I have some here . Butterfingers are as well. So are Salted Nut Rolls.
  25. That is good to know!!!
