  1. I would at least get the blood tests and gene testing done. Having children, if you do have Celiac, puts them at a high risk for also having Celiac. I would also say that given your statement about your friends and your past diet history, having a medical diagnosis is going to mean more to them vs just saying you "feel better" not eating gluten. It's very...
  2. It could be the water you were drinking on your trip. Each municipality does different things to water and you can react to that. Also, medications like that can be hard on your stomach and that could be what is causing your symptoms. Do you take the Aleve with food?
  3. Something I have not ever looked into. I might have to. Curious, if you dried meat or fruit and added hot water, would they come back to somewhat normal? Being able to take some food with me on the road like that where all I would need is a microwave to warm some water would be REALLY nice!!
  4. With a number like that, you are Celiac. Did they run your total IgA level? If that is low, your IgA tests will not register a positive. As for the scope, it's a nice back up for the diagnosis but not necessary with a reading that high.
  5. Things have gotten better since I first posted this . I got the DD coffee pre-ground at the grocery store. I think it was just a temporary thing or a no, you are not healed yet thing.
  6. Hospital food is often contracted out to companies like Sodexo and such. It's a poor reflection on the hospital that they can't provide food as needed but it's also not generally staffed by trained personnel either. I mentioned this to the GI dr and the nutritionist I saw at Mayo and they are frustrated with the set up there as well. Luckily there is a...
  7. You said in your first post that your GI had you go back on Gluten 6 weeks before your scope. We would have to see your actual tests and results to give you better answers but like other's have said, the allergy testing is not Celiac testing. Can you get your results from before?
  8. Gene testing just means you have the genetic make up for Celiacs but it does not mean you have celiac for sure. Are they going to do bloodwork for the actual Celiac testing since you went back on Gluten?
  9. I don't know of any books but I would tell her that her brother will get sick if he eats certain food so we have to make sure he doesn't have any of some kinds of food. She will understand that. Your food choices, to her anyway, probably won't change all that much unless you are eating a lot of processed foods, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, etc.
  10. I did that too--the ones in the neck oh, I think I need to try this!!! Do you use the cooking bag too or just put it in a roasting pan or whatever?
  11. I'd use the Reynold's plastic turkey bags. No basting needed. Get a good meat thermometer--one that stays in the bird while cooking--so you can check the temps as you go. There are general guidlines for how long to cook but each oven/bird will vary some. I use a tabletop roaster for my turkey so I have my oven free for everything else. I never stuff my...
  12. Tinnitus usually signals some hearing loss but it can also mean you have high blood pressure. I'd get in for a check up to start and make an appointment with an ENT to check your hearing.
  13. Sure sounds like Celiac with DH. Look on the DH board (skin rash) and see if it sounds like your rash. I would make an appointment with a GI dr that specializes in Celiac. If you are in the midwest, I'd go to Mayo or Chicago. Don't change your diet until you undergo testing. They will do bloodwork and probably an endoscope to start.
  14. I'm surprised in just a few short months how different I feel going gluten-free. With all of the information out there, how can you get a diagnosis like that and not at least try. I was thinking just yesterday how I haven't had my"normal" lower back pain for a few weeks and how I'm not just tired all the time any more. If just those little things are better...
  15. She's an adult and there is only so much you can do. It's her life. Direct her to this website or another reputable site with good information and let her read. Eventually it will catch up with her. There had to be some reason she went to the doctor to get her initial diagnosis so something wrong with her whether she chooses to accept that or not.
  16. I make my ribs by doing a dry rub of brown sugar and some BBQ seasonings Open Original Shared Link. I wrap in non-stick foil and bake for an hour or so depending on how big they are. Then, I coat with BBQ sauce and finish on the grill--or under the broiler. The key, as other's have said, is to remove the membrane if they are a rack of ribs. I'll buy country...
  17. Is there such a thing? I want to make some dinner rolls and I used to use the regular frozen dough for making caramel rolls. I used to use the Rhode's brand if you are familiar with those.
  18. I stopped as soon as my GI told me to. I was diagnosed in June but they told me to wait until July after follow-up appointments to stop in case they needed to do more testing. I spend most of July eating things I knew I couldn't have any longer LOL . I went to a nutritionist. She was helpful but I have gotten more information from this site. After...
  19. I found some of the Cinnful Apples today. They are pretty good. They have a stronger apple taste than the regular with just a hint of cinnamon aftertaste
  20. Something got me yesterday. I hardly ate so it was either the baked potato with their "buttery spread and sour cream", the Baked Lay's Potato Chips or the Greek Yogurt. I glanced at labels but I didn't see anything. I was flying and when I got into the airport everything but the news stands were closed. UGGG.
  21. Since you shop at HyVee, each store (the bigger ones anyway) have a Dietitian on staff and they will walk you around the store and show you what is safe, what is not, etc. I would suggest making an appointment with them and see. They Hy-Vee's by us have a really nice gluten-free section. I had to stop taking my vitamins. They were giving me horrible...
  22. Schwan's owns Freshcetta and Sabatasso so that would make sense. They own Red Barron, Tony's and a few other pizza lines as well. We shop at Sam's. I had Costco for a while but it's just too far away. I've had ok luck with Sam's but a lot of their frozen veges are NOT gluten-free so be extra careful--why do they do that???
  23. It's natural to go to glutening as a source of your problems, but there are a lot of stomach viruses going around and you might just be sick. Don't borrow trouble. Give it a few days and see what happens. Also, 1 month just isn't long enough to heal. Several people, me included, noticed after a few weeks of being gluten-free that our symptoms seemed to...
  24. Open Original Shared Link Just for clarification, 1-2% test false negative and 1-3% test false positive. It's not common.
  25. Can you get a copy of the tests they did an post the results with the ranges? Do they have online access maybe? Knowing what the actual tests were and the scale will help us answer your questions better. I'd wait a bit before going gluten free in case they need to run more tests. If they only did the TT IgA, they may want to run the full panel, for example...
