ARCHIVED Please Help... Diagnostic Question...need More Information
SMRI replied to Dagyngrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would get a copy of the exact tests they ran along with the results and lab ranges. Also, I would find another doctor. They should have run these tests first, before your scope, while you were eating gluten. A good doctor would have known that .- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Else Me Make Sense Of My Daughter's Iga Test?
SMRI replied to glutenfreemomma188's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In general, when a range is given, anything in that range is normal. If she were borderline where you would have to worry then the number would be more like 149 or in this case 25. This test is to see if her overall IgA level is in the normal range. Without knowing the overall IgA, you don't know if the ttIgA number is reliable. My daughter has immune... -

ARCHIVED "artificial Flavors", "artificial Colors"
SMRI replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, if something is just listed as artificial flavoring or natural flavorings without stating barley, wheat or rye, it's safe? -
ARCHIVED "artificial Flavors", "artificial Colors"
SMRI replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm much better and I think it was the multi-vitamin I was taking that caused my issues. This link is nice, but it talks about natural flavorings....not artificial. The ingredients just say "artificial flavoring"..so those should be oK?? Remember, this is all still very new--only one month into this.... -

SMRI replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So...one example..this should be ok to eat?? Hungry Jack Syrup does not contain ingredients derived from gluten. However, these products do not meet our established criteria for a "gluten-free" claim for one or more reasons. It is important to note that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not yet defined the term “gluten-free” or established rul... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain (New To Me)
SMRI replied to whtswrongwithme32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Take some Advil or similar. Suffering with joint pain just makes everything else worse. Your quality of life is deminished and walking or moving differently can cause other problems down the road. -

That is the part I'm trying to decipher---I can find 5 sources that say it's ok and 5 that say it's not ok--so who is right???? The comment on one company website said that there is no testing available, nor is there any standard information as to what is gluten-free but their products by their own definition are not gluten-free....um, I thought the 20 ppm... -

Ok, thanks!! Just trying to establish family history. We are pretty confident my mom probably was Celiac based on some of her symptoms and my Dad could have been--he had a lot of GERD and some other intestinal issues but was very healthy otherwise so iffy there, but did develop type 2 diabetes in his late 60's. -
ARCHIVED "artificial Flavors", "artificial Colors"
SMRI posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What is the ruling on artificial flavors and colors. From my understanding they are all chemical in nature and can't contain gluten, but various sources on the internet flags many products with artificial flavors as containing gluten, same with artificial colors. The celiac.com "safe foods" list shows "artificial flavors" as safe but artificial colors as... -

There are frozen English Muffins at my grocery store--I can't remember the brand off hand. Have you tried them? I'm hesitant to spend $8 on them if they are awful. I used to eat English Muffins for breakfast frequently. I wonder if you can make English Muffin bread with your recipe as well? -

ARCHIVED Correct Diagnosis?
SMRI replied to ThisGalsGlutenFree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be nice if dr's ordered complete tests to give the full picture of what is going on!!! But, when all is said and done, a positive is a positive and the scope is just back up to the blood work. Now, the actual scope and biopsy is pretty easy for you--but again, not really necessary. I guess if I were your dr and got the lab results, I would have... -

SMRI replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I found some individual fruit cups, some individual vegetable cups ( cut green beans and corn), found some canned chicken that was gluten-free--no pouches--probably would rather have a pouch though, some single serve cups of peanut butter. I realized I don't have an extra can opener though--oops. That should get me through a few "meals". I need to... -

I just looked up the restaurants for leg 1 of my trip...not even a McDonald's in town?? They have Walmart so I guess I'll have to eat Walmart food.... I did a search for gluten-free resturants, one popped up, a pizza place. They do have a gluten-free menu, it is 3 pasta dishes and says "let us know an hour in advance if you want gluten-free pasta".... -

I'll be on the road for 8 1/2 weeks, but the first week is a lot of hotel hopping, after that I settle down some and spend weeks at a time in one place. I was going to buy some cans of chicken but my app flagged them as having gluten. I don't THINK they do but I need to check before I buy something like that.... -
