  1. No food in DC is cheep . We did see the dino hall last time through DC, just didn't see much of anything else at the Natural History museum---our other traveling companions didn't care to spend more time there... I'm really looking forward to this trip--short as it is. I'm going with our oldest son, who is out of the nest and lives 5 hours away so we...
  2. I can see with kids that they want the scope to back up the bloodwork. It's and extra tool to use for 504 plans or whatever they might need for school to work in accommodations. Whether this is the reason behind doing the scope or not, who knows. I was positive on all 5, all the blood tests and the genetic tests. They still wanted to do the scope for a...
  3. A friend of mine got the same call a couple weeks ago. It was nothing but better safe than sorry. Just be forewarned, the diagnostic mamo is worse than a regular mamo but the ultrasound is no big deal. Think happy thoughts or learn new swear words to use during the mamo .
  4. Your boyfriend needs to get on the same page and start helping you instead of tossing obstacles in your way to healing. I was also diagnosed in June and was expecting a little push-back from my husband. I have some family members that are Celiac and have been way over the top about dealing with their Celiac and he hasn't been the nicest person about that...
  5. Well, there is a big difference between traveling in areas that are gluten-free vs traveling in the middle of nowhere that has a choice of eating gas station food or McDonald's where no one in the restaurant has even heard of the gluten-free menu. The find me gluten-free app pulls up every single restaurant in my area, including pizza places that have NOTHING...
  6. I was prescribed a regular multivitamin and B-12. I got the multiitamin at Sam's club in a huge bottle, gluten-free, for $12 or so. The B-12 is prescription via my pharmacy. All of my numbers were in the normal range, but some were at the low end of normal so they want me taking these. I'm not very good about remembering to take them because I have to...
  7. I agree--those labs couldn't be more positive. Can you take your daughter to your doctor? The only real reason to get an "official" diagnosis is if she needs it for school. Getting the endoscope isn't a bad idea just to get a baseline incase something pops up later.
  8. I have some corn tortillas to use up so I'm going to warm up the rest of the fajita meat in the fridge and do those for dinner. It's a gloomy, rainy day so not in the mood to cook.
  9. Our dog is allergic to corn so a lot of the gluten-free products (aka table scraps) are not working for her LOL. She has been on grain free food since she was a puppy because of her allergies.
  10. Yep.. Open Original Shared Link
  11. The TT IgA is the "baseline" test most often run. If you are positive on that, you have Celiac...however, if your total IgA is low, like my daughter's is, that test is meaningless, so they need to run that. The next text is the TT IgG, which, if your IgG levels are normal, the test should be accurate, but like the IgA, if your levels are not normal, like...
  12. I have the find me gluten-free app too, it's pretty worthless. Heck, when I went to a restaurant that I KNEW was gluten-free, owner is Celiac, it didn't even show up on there.... I've found that you have to start asking questions about prep and make sure they know you have a "gluten allergy"...Celiac means nothing to a lot of people but when you say...
  13. I've talked to 3 pharmacies, they all said basically the same thing, they would call the manufacturer for my medications to make sure what they were using was gluten-free. They put a note in my file to that effect. My current medicine is gluten-free but their contracts change and I now have a note that I have to have this one brand---which I should anyway...
  14. I bought a box of pizza crust mix a while back and that wasn't bad. I think it was Glutino brand?? It's a little hard to work with because it's so sticky but if you use wax paper or plastic wrap when handling it's fine. We made this Open Original Shared Link the other night. It wasn't bad. It gets a bit salty though. One change we will try next time...
  15. Did they run just the IgA to see if that was normal? They should have done the IgG series too
  16. I don't see anything on the website about either museum being closed, the Castle or Natural History. I can deal with salads if I have to
  17. Depends on if they run labs in-house or not. If not, a week, if so, they should be back within hours depending on how busy they are.
  18. I'm surprised they didn't run the Celiac panel. Your IgA level is really low so the blood test for that won't come back accurate. Your IgG levels are ok so that might show something. I would request an endoscope too. Did you actually got to Mayo for your testing or did they just send the test to Mayo? I was at Mayo on 6/20 as well so we may have crossed...
  19. Maybe follow-up with a recipe or two and a comment about how you wished you would have been tested before going gluten-free because of the problems you had and your kids "are having" doing a gluten challenge--I know the kids are ok but just to emphasize the reality of going back on gluten.
  20. Ask to have blood work done. Depending on how they did the scope, they may or may not have found damage but that doesn't mean you are not Celiac. Get the full IgA and IgG testing and see what they say. Continue to eat gluten until you have your tests done though.
  21. Hubs went shopping yesterday....first time since I've been diagnosed. I know he didn't read labels, so I double checked everything. He was so proud he bought some candy he "knew" I could have because we've both have major sweet tooth cravings....so, first thing I see in the bag, Twizzlers, knew those were not gluten-free. Then, Good and Plenty's...2nd ingredient...
  22. I hear you---still trying to get our oldest son to get tested!!!!! He was tested in 3rd grade for growth issues, very, very bottom of normal range, has canker sores all the time, spends a lot of time in the bathroom, lots of eczema, etc. along with major allergy issues. He could be fine but he needs to be tested
  23. I agree, you are most likely Celiac and your diet altered the blood work results. The question is, does it matter to you to get a firm diagnosis or not? If not, start eating gluten-free and don't cheat. You could look at your numbers more like a 1 year check up for a Celiac and say "wow, going gluten-free really does make a difference" . If you want total...
  24. If people are asking for help, it's not unsolicited advice. Chances are she did not know how the testing worked or whatever. I think what you wrote was fine.
  25. I'm debating about buying a toaster so I can at least have toast in the room for breakfast.
