One aspect is i beleive in celaics we tend to store up gluten like many other toxins and 'hide' it .. sometimes it comes out as spots and other times its hidden in celulite etc.
Eat a whole pizza and most of it goes straight through.... we expell it and only so much can attach to villi at any one time. However a constant drip of gluten means it can be hidden away and that the villi are being continually challenged to divide leading to increased cancer risks.
This makes a lot of sense to me.

Donna- no chocolate and no diet Coke????????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I've given up everything at this point. the diet Coke is the only friend I have left.
Yep, diet coke is my friend in the summer time...hoping it's not that.
Donna, I now am able to only drink diet 7-up as there is no corn syrup in it. Good luck in figuring this out. I hope it is not corn as that is worse then gluten to get out of your diet.Hum, I like diet 7up too...maybe I can try that for a few days.

Hello All,
I have been off gluten since about march. Had some accidents in the beginning but gradually beginning to learn all the hidden glutens.
Sorry for the long post, but it needs some explaining....
I found this baker at the local farmers market who makes (along regular breads) very very tasty gluten free breads. The last batch must have been CC'd and I ate the bread unknowingly for about 7 days. I kept having minor issues with being "glutened" and kept blaming it on other foods that I actually thought were safe, so I was wrecking my brain how I could I get it so wrong.
After feeling lousy (migraines, brain fog, tired, irritable...) for days and days and reverting to 100% safe food I finally figured out the culprit was the bread.
So here is my question: when I get glutened I am usually very sick (D, nausea, super tired, etc.) for about 1 1/2 days and feel bad for another 1-2. This time around with the minor CC glutening for about a week the major symptoms have subsided now (been off the bread for 5 days) but I still feel very tired, have no energy, can't focus, depressed...
Does it take longer to get back to normal when you get very small portions of gluten CC as opposed to one violent reaction to a lot of gluten?
Thanks for everyones posts. This forum has been so helpful!!!
Well, I don't think it happens the same for everyone, but personally that's about what happens for me. I was eating low levels of gluten for a period of three years. At that time I didn't know about my gluten intolerance, but was following a low carb diet so it was naturally low in carbs...I was sick fairly constantly for those three years...constant sinus infections, fatigue, dizzyness, etc. After going gluten-free for several months I purposely ate some gluten, mostly to see what kind of reaction I would have (stupid, but I had to know)...it was rather violent and lasted about 5 days, then it was gone. So, yes, I think it's possible for the lower levels to affect you longer expecially if you're getting those low levels frequently.

Can't leave you people alone for even a few minutes and you're sneaking off to reek havoc in other threads!!! Do we have to send the geese???

Hi Tavi! (premature post) I see you...
heard a rumour (well saw it on the STanford thread) that you're NOT going to the Celiac conference?
NO, say it ain't so!!! I really wanted to meet you there. Donna and I are going (yay Donna! I"ll recognize you by the Bumble crumbs on your face, right? I"ll have chocolate from the Nuggets smeared on my chin)...I don't know who else at this point....you must join us!
Yah, I was thinking I would pin an empty Bumble Bar wrapper on my body somewhere for you to spot me.
Floridian, I am a dumb bird. It took me all this time to hit F5 to see what everyone is talking about. I want to know how you got a photo of me? But, I do think a bow would be nice in my short hairdo and I am so partial to red. Also got some more good news yesterday. Remember how I told you guys that when I moved out here 1 1/2 years ago, I put Mom's name on the list for the Seniors Housing here so I can get her out of Scarborough. Well, I called the office in charge of the seniors waiting list and spoke to a really nice lady. I asked her are there any more options to put Mom on so I could get her out here sooner as I am really worried about her being by herself in Scarborough (getting much too violent), and also that I am basically responsible for her shopping, doctor's appts, etc. etc..... Anyway, we got discussing how the government really needs to put more money into taking care of the seniors as the demographics of our population show that what is currently a 5 year wait list will be a 15 year wait list a few years from now with all the baby boomers..... Hello, McFly, it's not rocket science here, it's basic common sense....... Mom lived with me, Terry and the kids for 5 years while she was on the waiting list for seniors apt. in Scarborough, and now she has to wait all over again! Anyway, this lady totally agreed with me and said it was a shame how seniors today are on the back-burner in the government's eyes..... I told her that I understood that there is nothing further we can do and thanked her for her time and assistance......Well, yesterday, this same lady called me and said that a one bedroom apt is coming available September 1st right here in Bowmanville! In fact, it is in one of the buildings that I put Mom's name on the list for! We go see it tomorrow at 1:00 p.m....... I sooooooooo hope this works out, because it would be awesome having my mom so close to me again! I have no idea what miracles this kind angel of a lady performed, but I thank my lucky stars for it! It just re-inforces my belief that you catch many more flies with honey than with vinegar......... Being nice is always the better way to go......
I will be so relieved when Mom is out here, that way, for those days that I have had a really bad night previously, Mom will be on hand to help out when needed......
Wonderful news about your daughter and your mom! Yay...also glad you had a better night.
UGH, can't sleep, need my friendsPremature posting...you and me both...I woke up at 1:00 a.m. with the worst abdominal pain and couldn't get back to sleep.....ugggg.
*Sigh*. Feeling increasingly nervous about flying on SundayI'm hoping its one of the safest times to fly...security will be extra tight for a few weeks...
Wow, it was a really slow night...it only took around 20 minutes to catch up, lol.
Welcome Tiffany...You're on the list I see, so that means you're an official resident of Rachelville.
Does diet coke have histamines, lol? I'm thinking that has to be the next thing to go...and now I'm also considering a fructose intolerance...sheesh.
Good gravy, soon there won't be anything left.
I'm so tired...glad I get to leave work early today even if it IS to go to the dermatologist...we're also having a BBQ at work today so basically my work day ends at noon.

Penguin...so sorry...I couldn't find sobbing, but did find a WACKO emoticon for those parents!

My mom and my sister just wanted me to stop by and say hi. They get on here alot. Oh and by the way my name is chloe.
Hi Chloe!
Anyone look at CNN -- wow!Not yet...going there now.
This is particularly unsettling:
"and a Heathrow Airport employee with an all-area access pass, according to Britain's Channel 4.
Five suspects in the plot are still at large, ABC News reported on its Web site, citing U.S. sources."

Its almost always the foods we crave the most that are the ones causing problems.
I'm in trouble...
I wonder if we'll still be here when you're 52.....I think maybe when you were 50 we were only a pajama party with a few giggly girls...
Now we are a whole cult farm paradise....
Who knows what we will be when you turn 52.
Yep, I think it was a pajama party, lol. I'm scared to think what it might become in a year considering this thread only started 4 months ago.
Donna....dont do it!!3 days no nuggets??? WOOHOO! Wonder if I could last that long no ice cream??
All is safe for today I think...3 days without nuggets...very good my Susie friend!
Cashews contain alot of mold....Okay, I AM allergic to mold...getting shots for it an everything.
Donna....I'm soooo very curious!I'm sure whatever it was that you typed out.... probably would have made me spit out corn tortilla crumbs all over this computer screen.
Nah...I'm pretty tame, lol...it wasn't anything too bad.
-
No, not my microwave, lol. Holy goodness, how can I heat my lunch at work? We have a stove downstairs but sometimes I have to heat and eat it quickly. Can't imagine cooking it in a pot...hum, we have a regular oven too...I'll have to ask someone how to work it though...did I mention I am no Julia Childs in the kitchen.
Then, I guess I'd have to have some kind of glass thingy here to put it in because aluminum foil isn't the greatest either.
-
I had a friend who wouldn't use a microwave...she explained once why, but I can't remember...but think it DID have something to do with the changing of the molecules or somethingorother...even then I couldn't retain scientificness.
-
Interesting drive-by-factoid...when this thread started I was 50...I'm 51 now.
-
Thanks Julie, and you're welcome, lol. It won't be too hard to leave out the peanut butter and apricot spread (that's a new addition anyway)...it's the chocolate I'll need intervention for.
Hey, it's 8:43 a.m. here and STILL no chocolate.
-
Lets see, what all are you eating se we can pinpoint these itching spells?
Probably all the wrong things, lol.
For breakfast: Lundberg Rice Cake (with sea salt) w/nut butter (currently cashew butter--I think for the last 3 days, hummm, but I switch--sometimes peanut, sometimes cashew, sometimes almond and sometimes hazelnut) and all fruit spread (currently switching between wild blueberry and apricot).
For lunch: currently chicken thigh (I know, but it's so hard to bring meats to work, chicken or ground meat is the only thing that doesn't taste like shoe leather rewarmed in the micro), and veggies (organic frozen, mostly a blend of cauliflower, carrots, a little broccoli and a little zucchini, but today I'm having green beans) and an apple. (I split this "lunch" and have half at 8:00 a.m. and the other half at 11:30 a.m.).
Dinner: some sort of meat (usually beef, pork or turkey), and sometimes a veggie, and recently (like for two weeks) a corn tortilla (only ingredients are corn, water and a little lime), and sorbet (homemade, from frozen fruit--either mango or blueberries--organic with a little water and agave nectar).
Snack: repeat, usually, of breakfast, but sometimes nuts.
Up until a couple of weeks ago I ate mostly ground meat for lunch...either beef, buffalo, turkey or pork. I switched to chicken because most the histamine lists I saw said no ground meats.
Up until 2 days ago I was eating a lot of chocolate (like 6-8 Hershey's kisses, or Gluten-free Casein-free chocolate).
I have to say that the itching I've had in the last couple of months has been the worst I've ever had in my life...I've had problems with the legs itching for most of my adult life, but never this bad. I also had a period of a few years (like 4 or so) where I didn't notice it at all...so I've been trying to rack my brain to figure out what was different then. Could be because I was so sick with sinus infections, etc. that my doctor kept prescribing antibiotics and prednisone...maybe the frequent use of prednisone helped it not itch.
Prednisone = vile nasty disgusting.
It doesn't look like the pictures of DH that I've seen, so I don't think it's that, and besides, wouldn't that be getting better now that I'm being so careful about gluten?
I just don't know...my appointment with the dermatologist is tomorrow afternoon, so maybe she can shed some light.
Wait, what am I mising? What comment, I'm confused. Also, I still don't know what a premature post is
...
EDIT* I see Donna already filled you in on the scientificness
The comment is from our shirtless village (idiot, lol) TheDave a few pages back...I believe it was quoted by Carla on the page right before this one...
Premature post = what you did before you saw that I posted scientificness stuff, lol. (i.e., not reading all the posts before replying to one)
-
I wondered if the comment went unnoticed by everyone but me!
We're on to you, Dave!!!
Better be on your best behavior!
Nope, I was all over it like white on rice, lol. Just decided it was best not to write what I had typed out, lol.
-
Uh, huh, feeding our geese gluten ... comments like this ... we're going to need a picture minus the glasses and WE'VE GOT OUR EYES ON YOU!!!!!
I was going to comment on this, then decided not to, but you've said it well.
Bev, I also found this:
Neutrophil
Neutrophils are Leukocytes (white blood cells) of the Polymorphonuclear Leukocyte subgroup.
Neutrophils form a primary defense against bacterial infection. Like all the cells of the immune system , neutrophils are produced in the bone marrow and circulate in the bloodstream. However, neutrophils move out of blood vessels into infected tissue in order to attack the foreign substance ( allergen , bacteria, etc.). Normally a serious bacterial infection causes the body to produce an increased number of neutrophils, resulting in a higher than normal WBC count . Neutrophils perform their function partially through phagocytosis, a process by which they "eat" other cells and foreign substances. The pus in a boil (abscess) is made up mostly of neutrophils.
-
Bev, could NEUTS be this?
NAME NEUTS (neutrophils)
NORMAL RANGE 2.2-8.6 K/ƒl
DEFINITION
These are white blood cells that play a key role in inflammation, allergic reactions, pus formation, and in destroying bacteria and parasites.
EXPLANATION OF TEST RESULT
High neutrophil counts often mean infection or inflammation. Interferon treatment is associated with low neutrophil levels. Therefore, you must have adequate (normal or near normal) levels of neutrophils to start therapy with interferon. The absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is the total number of neutrophils in your blood. If your ANC is below 500/ƒl, you are at increased risk of infection.

Yeah...I got in an accident today.
Had to call Dave to explain why I couldnt return on time.
Dave was gonna come to "the scene" and help me out. I'm not so good at this since I usually dont crash into other cars (just other people who attempt to walk near me) .
Dave's kind of an expert on this....he's had lots of experience.
In the end....I handled it...but do appreciate his offer to assist me. I'm not ususally a damsel in distress but today I kinda was.
Sounds like you are mostly okay (from the accident I mean,
)...hope so anyway.
I HAVE to read this thread several times a day or I am absolutely lost. That is why you saw me lurking. Today has not been a good one for me and have slept most of the day and am still in my PJ's. Tomorrow will be a better day as they usually are when I have a lousy one. That was certainly a convoluted sentence. So, I am finishing scanning the forum and off to bed (again), but hopefully for most of the night.Hope you got some good rest and are feeling much better today!
REALLY, REALLY BAD NIGHT TONIGHT GUYS....... I am doubled over. When will this stop???????Wow, I'm so sorry!!!! Hoping SOMEONE can figure it all out soon for you.
I've not been able to post much lately as I'm having computer problems-but only with this thread?!!VINCENT- where are you??
Everytime I hit 'add reply' I get
'cannot find server' page.
It also happens when I click on page changes,IT'S DRIVING ME MAD!!!
Is it because of the length of the thread?-poor computer has got steam coming out of it's ears-It can't cope!!
I Can't tell you how many posts I've lost
It only happens with this thread
Hummm, this thread is alive...it's entirely possible.
Sorry for the computer problems though--it's frustrating.
I've been avoiding chocolate and bananas and wonder if I am going through histamine withdrawal. Is that even possible?
OMG!!! Seriously I was wondering the same thing. I was more itchy for the last two days than I have been...the spots also burned...I was wondering if the histamine leave kicking and screaming.

Premature posting...
so...."once more into the breach," dear friends......moving on to other rooms to paint...carpets to rip up.....Cool about not having to repaint! What's under that carpet, lol? I really need to get rid of mine but I have a feeling there's nothing pretty under it, so I'd have to then do something else... grrr. Having a nice home isn't easy when one is lazy (me).
back to reading...
Patti... yes, I know you might be a little embarrassed of being my twin right now... but... I had to let everyone see what I looked like... as you can all see... me and Patti are not identical twins.LOVE the new picture...it's so YOU.
Donna Yay...plums too! You GO girl.Ummm...before I sing your praises did you actually make it the whole day yesterday? I can only recall two drive-bys and they were both pretty early in the day...wait...I think there may have been other drive-bys but no more mention of chocolate.
Yes, I DID make it all day with no chocolate and no plums.
But, I did have a soy latte.
It's 6:09 am and still no chocolate!
Haha....I think about this too...I wonder if anyone here has read this thread in its entirety (other than me who cant remember past the page we are currently on).I've read it all, I think, but I still can't remember what page we're currently on...I was thinking of leaving myself a post-it so when I get back to work I know exactly where to start!
-
...sweet too. Heck, you all are!
I have to agree with this...I'll continue the love fest with an AMEN to the fact that you are all sweet great people! Thanks!
-
Me too!
My dad is so cute- he's a very handsome, well-kempt 76 year old Irish gentleman who STILL, even though they are 36 and 38 years old, treats his daughters like princesses. He brought me flowers today after my testing yesterday. He's been lonely since my mom passed away 3 years ago tho.
Actually- he would LOVE Rachelville as he has gone all organic on me. Shops at Trader Joe's exclusively. But, no computer and not gluten free so he can be the surrogate visiting dad to you Susan and maybe Carla's mom's companion or escort when they visit Rachelville (of course passing through the de-contamination chmaber first). His dream has always been to live in San Francisco. we went there together 2 springs ago on a father daughter trip.
I'll change my avatar for a few days so you can see him.
Oh Bev, your father is adorable!! Sounds like a great dad.
Got the call from my doc... Heart function is still low, but appears to be stable for now. So fro now just have to continue my yearly MUGA scans and stuff. One day in the future though this may become a life/death kind of issue so we need stay up on it. Thats all for now... gotta get my hiking boots on and run! LOLPhew, glad to hear it...but GET THEE SOME RUNNING SHOES, lol.
-
I agree also about keeping the thread family-friendly. Hope nothing I said offended anyone
Doesn't offend me...

I just read that on CaringBridge...WONDERFUL!!!!!

OMG I just did multiple quotes that I learned from our shirtless Idiot......
hold me, am SO Excited.....

Drive-by post:
It's 12:11 here and I haven't had any chocolate today either!
No plums either.
Omg...i Might Be On To Something

Yep, except mine has been out of the CHOCOLATE variety for two weeks now...could THAT be why I haven't had any Bumble Bars in two weeks.
I knew it but couldn't remember who sang it...I see below that someone has found it, lol.
Helps if you have a toaster oven I think...and definitely takes some trial and error with timing.
