Chocolate=Histamine Release
...sorry to be the bearer of such bad news
I think I was in denial!
Hey, but it's been almost two weeks since I've had a bumble bar!
-
I am the spawn of a lawyer...still in recovery....
-
no, no, NOT the chocolate....it's work, definitely it' s WORK your'e allergic to...quit your job, keep the chocolate! so sorry about the itching, that must drive you nuts.
and BTW how do people actually go to REAL JOBS if you get so miserably sick from gluten? Can't imagine. Am vaguely looking for a real job but am thinking of just supporting myself as an artist again (albeit a starving one) as I have done in the past, and continuing to work part-time for the writer. I simply know that I couldn't show up and be efficient anywhere today, would have had to call in sick. ugh.
I may not have to worry about quitting, lol...they keep talking about "outsourcing" my department, so I'm sure the point will all be moot at some point. Anyway, it was really hard when I was at my sickest, but fortunately I have a fairly flexible employer and fortunately I was able to take some half days off...I also think my gluten intolerance hadn't done so much damage yet that it totally knocked me out, but I think if I hadn't figured it all out soon it would have.
I am a lawyer! So, I guess I do not have a real job!
And I work FOR lawyers so I guess I don't have a real job either, lol!!!
OMG, I forgot to address something I read yesterday. Rachel asked who Amber Frey was. NO! Are you joking Rachel? She who reads the tabloid covers everyday as she walks by and as she checks out all of the customer's groceries??? I am thinking you were joking, but if you don't know I am surprised given you live in Cali and it was all over the news for years.Pretty sure it was a joke because there were lots of laughing smilies after it.
-
Anyway it just cracked me up because there's now a whole TOWN that I have to worry over....
Yep, funny how that works.

Okay, so since joining this thread on page 15 or so I've been trying to figure out what causes the almost unbearable itching I have on my legs...sometimes it's barely noticable and sometimes it's just horrible...also through the course of this thread I've thought it might be corn, histamine, chicken, auxigro, sugar and air. My latest, CHOCOLATE. Oh dear God please don't let it be the chocolate, lol. Anything but the chocolate. The itching was so bad on Friday that I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist (not that I think it will do any good because I've seen one before and it didn't help)...coincidentally, last week, especially Friday, I was eating a bunch of chocolate. This weekend I wasn't around chocolate much so didn't have much and the itching was at a minimum...today...WORK happened and I am surrounded by chocolate once again. Arggg...not the chocolate. What's the world coming to.
Or....maybe I'm just allergic to WORK, lol.

Well I sell promotional products for a living so I probably have over 20 various coolers of all types. I do own my own business and have no one to run it when I'm out but I guess they don't care about that either. At least Aug. is my dead time for work.
They might! I know our judge was very strict and wasn't excusing for much, but if I remember correctly that was one of the things he did excuse for.

Donna, steaming the corn tortillas takes great precission and skill, focus. It's an art. Oh who am I kidding I mess it up all the time, but I'm getting better at it
I figured out I let the water boil and then turn it way down, or even off, and let the steam come up through the steamer basket, then once the water has stopped boiling and it's just steaming I put the tortilla in and put the lid on. Effort, yes but they taste so good.
Oh good...I am no Julia Child in the kitchen, so definitely though it was ME, lol. Seriously though, toasting it in the toaster oven was a happy accident...it was sooo good.

I haven't been called since finding out about my gluten/dairy intolerance, but the first time I was called and actually picked as an alternate for a jury, I had bronchitis and work for a law firm but they wouldn't excuse me for that, lol. They did give us breaks and an hour (sometimes more) for lunch where we could actually leave the building. At the time I brought a cooler with me and left it in the trunk of my car and went out there to eat. The second time was just last year and fortunately was not seated on the jury and actually didn't have to go in until after I'd eaten, so that wasn't a problem. Taking non-refrigerated stuff with you is an excellent idea...you could be sitting there for a long while.

Oh,good googly moogly I have succesfully done my signature!!
Yay!!!!
-
You need to speak v-e-r-y slowly and simply please Donna!!
So sorry, lol. Okay, so at the beginning of the text you want to change click your mouse and hold the button (mouse button that is) whilst dragging the mouse across all the text you want to change (somehow that sounds confusing even to me, lol), then select the color you want...repeat the click-drag thing and then select the size (okay that just sounds weird, lol).
-
Wow Christina, I don't even know what to tell you, but I'm sorry you are feeling so badly!
Nikki - are you highlighting the text you want to change first? I had to highlight the text, then change size, then highlight again and change color.
-
Susan- so sorry you are sick. Do you eat cheese omelets often? I think we all know that veggies CAN make some people sick here. Maybe it's just a combination of things + your period. I used to get horrible D with my periods every month. Hated it, but other than the usual misery that that time of month brings I didn't feel any worse usually.

Donna - - why can't I be that motivated to make jewelry?
Get on over here and let's have a jewelry party......I am too busy right now painting everything (BY MYSELF!!!
lost my helpers so it's slow work) and then re-doing floors...ugh.....
I'm not that motivated, lol. I had to have something to do while I was watching 22 episodes of a set of TV series DVDs that a friend is lending me, lol. Painting (rooms) is not fun...painting pictures yes, painting rooms no and it takes a long time.
Does anyone remember the play, "Harvey"? It is a movie, too with Jimmy Stewart. There is a psychiatrist whose fantasy is to go to a grove of trees in Akron, Ohio, lie in the shade and have a lovely woman sit at his side and listen to all his life story and hold his hand and say, "Oh, you poor dear. Poor, poor dear." That is all he wants her to say! I think we need a hand holder like that in R'ville. A couple of them-one nice male and one nice female. How about being the hand-holder for the guys penguin?! Sounds like that would balance out the jobs for you!!
Good idea! I heard once a long time ago that sometimes people just want someone to listen or to cry with them....handholder is a good job!

Is there some reason we can't have a gluten-free KFC? I mean, hell, if gluten-free Big Macs exist in the world, can't the colonel help us out?
Good googly moogly, what page was this on???
Did I miss a discussion about gluten-free BIG MACS, lol.
-
My hubby wants to come live with us too but he had a request. You guys would like him- he could be part of the town band or he could be the town computer geek. He's pretty much gluten-free except when he eats out. He actually had a special request though. If there could be a KFC outside the city limits. I said "NO WAY" but then I though if it had a special decontamination chamber that removed all offending substances from you before you left so you couldn't come back into R-ville and contaminate anyone, MAYBE it wouold be OK. I'll let the town vote. On the KFC.
KFC is over the hill at the mall where Rachel and I will get our shopping fix...I suppose the KFC could be there, lol.
To everyone who is feeling yucky- I hope you feel better. It's been three weeks for me and i still feel poopy. First it was C diff, then the flagyl and now I don't know what the heck is going on. The big D, headaches, neck aches, chills, nausea. Can't get my butt out of bed before 11 am because I'm so tired and achey. I'm actually getting scared.I'm wondering if it's my thyroid or Lyme's or some dengue fever. Yuck! i'm trying to make the best of it but as I tell my husband I'm F-I-N-E FINE. (which at this point stands for frustrated, impatient, neurotic and emotional). Don't know what to do.
I did have fun yesterday though. I've been MAKING myself do something every day even if I feel crappy because if I sit home doing nothing I just get depressed (I'm on summer break from school). Hubby and I went up to visit friends who are at a beautiful lake about an hour from us so we went up there and just hung out by the lake and swam (the water was so warm- for here anyway where the ocean is freezing!).
But then I wake up at 3 am today crying because I had a horrible night mare and then I wake up at 5 am with D and a headache. Kinda at my wit's end.
Yes- suggestions are greatly appreciated
as are hugs, love and anything else you care to send my way. I'm going to drag my butt into the shower and try to wake up (yes- I know it's noon here, but it's a start).
No suggestions really, except that by being here in this thread you just might stumble upon something that will click with you. That's how this whole thing started...a bunch of us trying to figure out what the heck was making us feel so bad...some of us are actually improving, so there's hope!!!! {{{hugs}}}

Donna, how about some earrings to go with those bracelets?!
I now have 25 new bracelets and one more just waiting to be strung.
Thanks a lot! I'm just Rachel's friend, not her Boss though....I don't think she has a Boss, kind of her own Boss; hence, President.Well, welcome anyway TheDave, Rachel's friend-but-not-boss (stealing from Penguin cuz I liked it too much, lol).
-
Who you rollin' your eyes at woman?
Rachel's boss I presume!???
Welcome!
Welcome to Isonic as well!
Can some one tell me the orgin of "good googly moogly" ? I think I missed that some place...Hundres of pages ago...our dear Cecile came up with that one...it caught on like wildfire...kind of like premature posting did.
Oh, and Susan, thanks...it's good to know the Dingos would have eventually been sent for me as well!

Donna,
For some reason if I try to eat corn chips (tried 2 brands now) I get mouth blisters pretty quickly. Dont know what thats all about. Possibly sulfites?? I think they use sulfites for everything but arent declared if under 10 ppms. I havent figured it out yet but most processed stuff like chips, cereal and crackers gives me the blisters. The chips didnt have a warning of possible gluten cc either. One had a warning for dairy but I obviously dont get mouth blisters from dairy. Heck I've been living off ice cream for almost 2 weeks!
Anyways I eat corn tortillas and tamales w/out incidence. I discovered if I microwave my tortillas too long....I get CHIPS!!!!
Oh the joys of having these kinds of limitations. We get excited over the littlest things!
ROFLMAO...
We do get excited over these things don't we. I just couldn't get the darned tortilla steamed correctly so I just threw it in the toaster oven...came out so good, lol.
-
Yeah...fake rocks only puleeeeeze!!!
I dont wanna get messed up and have to see the town nurse!!!
Now I'm LMAO!!!!! Cecile, DITTO!!!! GAAAAAWWWWWDDDDD!!!!!
-
Susan....my mucus buddy...
OMGOsh...if I had something in my mouth would have spit it out on this one, lol. Where else on earth could this seem so normal.
And, personally, I think a President with brain fog seems so absolutely appropriate for our little town, lol.
Hi to all, I still haven't caught up with all that happened while I was gone...may never be able to at this rate, lol.
Welcome Bev...I want to learn rock climbing (fake rocks will do, lol).
Vincent - no dingos for me either, lol!
Rachel is just special that's all.
Gotta go...just made myself a toasted corn tortilla with a little olive oil and salt and it was like a warm tortilla chip which was slightly soft...MUST GO MAKE ANOTHER!
-
Hi everyone, it was STEVENS CREEK, not Walnut Creek, lol...
Wished I'd logged on yesterday, lol. I I'm only on for a few minutes here and haven't read the many posts but sounds like I missed a lot. Glad Rachel is okay. I'll try to catch up tomorrow!
-
I'm still here, just reading mostly. My order of beads came today so I've been playing with them, lol. I was thinking Rachel is probably just taking a break for a couple of days, or her mom's computer is in use. I've been having some problems with mine at home, so haven't even bothered turning it on for a couple of days. I think I got the problems straightened out though. I thought I saw Rachel online (not today though) more recently than Wednesday morning but don't think she posted anywhere.
I didn't even hear about the earthquake so it couldn't have been bad enough for power outages. I don't remember hearing anything on the news about power outages in this area either from earthquake or other reasons.

I feel much better on a higher fat diet, with lower carbs. I have a lot more energy overall and feel full longer with a higher fat diet.

My wife and I recently returned from an extremely enjoyable gluten-free week on a guest ranch in Wyoming, actually on the WY/CO border between Laramie, WY and Ft. Collins, CO. The owners of the ranch, a mother-daughter combo are both celiac and devote one week per month to gluten-free clientel. We found this to be a really great experience on an authentic western ranch - been in the family since early 1900's and currently raises beefalo (buffalo/cow mix) and horses. There was plenty of horseback riding including excellent basic instruction for those new to horses (that's me), hiking, and mtn climbing for the more ambitious. This is not the typical "dude ranch" with all the phony "western exerience"; this is the real thing, very rustic and extremely friendly. We felt like we had spent a week visiting friends. It's a great place for those interested in experiencing ranch life in the real West including families with children interested in horses - and it's gluten-free!
