  1. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! The sheriffs department just called and said it was a RED ALERT!!!! MANDATORY EVACUATION .... TO GO!!!! Intesity and storm surge will hit at 2am and the hurricane will hit at 9am!!!!!!!!

I am freaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And NO our parents are not going, but with 40,000 people trying to get out of here we wouldn't make it out anyway.

Oh Floridian! Praying really hard right now! Okay, prayer said. Did the sheriff's department give you any suggestions on what to do since getting out would be nearly impossible?

  2. Floridian - I'm going to go with weaker too!!

I seem to get reflux all the time so I can't tell by that. When I had that gluten a couple of weeks ago, my belly really got big and HARD. I have been dizzy since then too. My toungue is almost always coated though I did notice about three weeks ago that it was much less than it used to be, until I ate that gluten, now it's a bit more coated. My sinuses have also been more congested. Sometimes it's hard for me to swallow, but I've never paid attention to why or when because I've never kept a good diary.

  3. No, I'm not alone... I have Tony, my husband and my buddy, and I have a 100 pound Collie and my little kitty AND a set of stuborn parents and inlaws that live close.

I don't know the exact miles but we are right on the line for evacuation.

Oh good! I was getting more worried by the minute and the thought of you being alone was too much for me! I am glad you are close to your family too although really would feel better if they were all with you.

  4. Wow Rachel, sorry you are feeling so bad. That sounds a lot like the nagging symptoms I'm having, but I'm just not having them as severe as you are. That's what I've been trying to have several doctors address over the last few months--well, since January and no one has had a good explanation even after lots of testing, so that's what gave me the idea it must be something I'm eating but I could just never quite figure it out.

  5. I am back from the health food store and I come home to BAD news!!! Alberto is now a Catagory 1 hurricane and we are in the path. :(

TAMPA, Florida (AP) — A hurricane warning is in effect for parts of Florida's Gulf Coast as the first named storm of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season gains strength in the Gulf of Mexico. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.

Praying for you and your family and other in the path of the storm.

  6. The testing strips just show high blood glucose, not insulin levels. You could have high blood glucose because your body is producing enough, or even too much, insulin but your body isn't using it correctly (hyperinsulinima) or because your body isn't producing enough insulin (type 1 diabetes). So you've got no idea really.

There's a test called A1C which can show an average of your blood glucose over the last few months. That's becoming a more important test these days.

Thank you Nancy, that makes it a little clearer for my poor brain!

  7. The olive oil on cucumbers actually sounds good! Wow 6 years in Hawaii, was it similar to Florida, as far as climate?

Yes the weather is similar I think…I’ve only spent 1 day in Florida (after a cruise—we took an excursion in Ft. Lauderdale), so I don’t know if that’s a good enough time…but it is muggy in both places and very warm, lol. Bugs grow big in both places.

Hope you have successfully been to the health food store and are now back home safe! Post all you like!!

Hmmm...actually I forgot what year it was in but I remember the day Oct. 17th...the Giants were playing the A's in the world series. It was the Battle of the Bay. Were you here then Donna?

Yep. That was a really scary one. I had just finished helping teach a youth karate class and it hit. We were in a gymnasium and they had long metal tables that folded up into the walls…those started falling out! As we were trying to get out of the gym, it was nearly impossible to walk upright…I turned around to watch my karate instructor (who had the best balance in the world) struggling to walk…that’s when I got very scared. The gym was only a few blocks from my house, but it took me 45 minutes to get home because all the traffic lights were out and it was just after 5:00 p.m. so lots of people were on their way home from work. I think the worst part was sitting at home that night alone in the dark with aftershock after aftershock. I couldn’t reach my mom because phone lines were out locally. I was able to reach my uncle in Texas who was able to call my mother. My mom and I live 20 minutes drive from each other, lol.

I DO think it was the Battle of the Bay…it was a big deal, I know that much.

It was October 17th, 1989! I don't think I'll ever forget that date, lol.

ChelsE – I don’t think we felt the Northridge quake up here, but I sure remember that one. Scarey! I had an aunt who was living down there at the time. She lost some dishes and stuff like that, but no real major structural damage. It was devastating for so many people.

Andrea - the Bay bridge (Oakland/SF) was the one that had the piece drop out of it, and the Embarcadero bridge I think was the one that collapsed on itself...I think there were some others that had minor damage, but those were the two I remember had the big stuff. Glad your parents weren't anywhere near there on that day!

  8. Wow, I've been out all day and just got home.

Floridian hope you are doing okay! I lived in Hawaii for about 6 years and during that time we got two bad hurricaines...it was DEFINITELY scarey!

Now I just have to put up with the California earthquakes...those can be scarey, but not as scarey as the high winds from a tornado or a hurricaine I think...maybe that's just because I have live here all my life except for the time in Hawaii so I'm just "used" to them.

I'm not nearly as good about preparing as I should be. I have a little water, and lots of nuts and nut butters, canned tuna (which fortunately I can get at whole foods without added ingredients except for salt), and some rice cakes (which I just discovered yesterday, lol). But that's about it. I'm going to try to find those brown rice snaps and maybe I'll stock up on rice cakes and a few more bags of nuts.

Floridian, I put a little olive oil on my diced up cucumbers...sometimes with a touch of lemon juice...it's pretty good and none of that really needs to be refrigerated.

  9. Andrea - love the new picture...very cute! I was thinking the same thing about not belonging here, lol, but I often ignore those feelings.

I'm not sure how the doctor's can say the cysts and fibroids don't cause pain...they are correct (probably) that they themselves don't cause pain, but if they are definitely pressing on other organs and surrounding tissue, etc...that DOES hurt. My fibroids were causing all kind of pain. My doctor agreed (LOVED him by the way, but had to stop seeing him after my surgery because he switched practices and wasn't covered under my insurance plan any more).

  10. I'm pretty sure they saw what they needed to see...I was thinking that might be why they had me waiting around....to make sure the pics were good enough. I had an internal yesterday...she did both...first on my tummy and then internal. I havent heard anything yet.

Well drat...I was hoping it was something simple like that...it still could be that they need different equipment though...still hoping you here something today. Sorry you are in so much pain. I had awful pain with my fibroids, but that was mostly because they were so many and were pressing all my organs.

  11. Oh girls, it's been so busy at work the last few days I haven't had time to keep up with the posting.

Rachel - hope you hear something today! I know what THAT's like. I was waiting to hear from Dr. R about the pre-cancer thing and he didn't call and didn't call. I didn't want to go through the weekend not knowing either.

About going back for another ultrasound...they might just want you to come back for a different type of ultrasound--maybe the equipment they used just didn't give a clear enough picture. Did you have internal this time? You might actually need an internal one. When I had my fibroids they did a "regular" ultrasound on the tummy, but I had to go back for an internal one so they could get a better picture of them.

  12. Also, do most of you get all allergies tested when you send out (does Enterolab do that?)? I know I have celiac, but am curious about other allergies (suspect dairy but not really sure what else to think). Would it be better just to get all allergies tested from a dr, and if so, what kind of dr. do you go for for that (I've never had allergy problems before - think the labor/delivery of my baby is what set off my celiac symptoms since that's when all the D started).

I decided to get the full panel. It was a bit pricey, but I had been tested for allergies to food and didn't show any, so I knew I was dealing with intolerances rather than allergies. I showed intolerant to gluten and casein, but not to the others that were tested.

  13. The way I look at it, is that if there is anything foreign in the body like a cyst, a tumor, or in my case an enlarged ampulla, lol, it has to interfere with SOMETHING in the way the body normally does its thing. It may not be the cause directly but if the body is feeding that, it's taking away from something else. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol. Glad you made the appointment Rachel. I had fibroids and I know that if I only had a couple and they were small, they could have done it with a laser and they could have gone in through the vagina. (I had more than 20 big ones so had to have a full blown abdominal cut--don't wait til it gets big, lol).

I like the idea of the produce delivered, lol.

I also like the idea of coconut oil...I have some of that too. Maybe tonight I'll give that a try.

  14. Thanks Much! Now how do I explain to the little woman, what I'll be sending off in the

    mail

 Yep, fortunately I live alone and only had to worry about grossing myself out. I had to put it in the freezer, so wrapped it in plastic bags and old towels, lol. It IS a bit embarassing...I was wondering if the DHL guy could guess what was in there, lol.

  15. I don't know whether it was the gluten or the dairy, but I can say that I was sick the entire month of October 2005 (strep throat, ear infection and then a sinus infection) and before that had had a sinus infection every six weeks (almost like clockwork). I'd been seeing an allergist and a regular doctor and tried all sorts of things--the only thing that worked for the 3.5 years before I went gluten/dairy free was a very clean low carb (not processed foods) diet (and one time a candida rotation diet) which by it's nature was gluten-free. It was getting so bad that megadoses of antibiotics weren't knocking it out...no kidding, I was taking 4,000mg per day plus prednisone and it still wasn't taking them away. I got allergy shots twice a week for that whole 3.5 years, but never seemed to improve! I tried the nasal washes, sprays and even colloidal silver, none of which helped.

After being so sick for the month of October, I started putting two and two together (I had eaten a BUNCH of gluten/dairy in September) and decided to research the gluten thing--I have a co-worker who is Celiac, so I started with her. I went gluten free at the beginning of November and after my Enterolab testing went dairy free in December...haven't had a sinus infection since October.

So, as I said, I don't know whether it was the gluten or the dairy, or if they were just contributing factors, but my sinuses are now clearer than they have been in years and I'm getting allergy shots ONCE every three weeks now instead of twice a week.

  16. I do okay with small amounts of Lundberg brown rice. I usually don't eat more than 1/2 cup at a time and usually don't have it two days in a row. I make a big batch of it and freeze it in 1/2 cup portions then just cook some whenever I want to.

The produce thing scared me a bit too...I thought peeling it was good enough, but fortunately I don't seem to have a problem with it except for the slightly addictive nature of the fruit for me, lol.

I also do okay with just a little tomato and peas...again I don't eat a lot at one time and don't eat them every day. I have GERD so wouldn't want to overdo the tomatoes anyway.

I tried the olive oil on my legs last night. When I was young (really young) I used to use baby oil to sunbathe...the feeling reminds me of that. I'll have to put it on right before bed so I don't notice that feeling, lol. I didn't even put very much on--my skin did NOT glisten, lol. It DID make my skin soft though, and only one spot itched but that was only for a couple of minutes. So, so far this looks like a winner. My skin still itched even when using gluten-free Sav or California Baby lotions.
