  1. So a few weeks ago I was having some really bad days and I really wanted to go out and stuff myself-preferably with beer and onion rings, but anything would have done.

    Well, I can't do that anymore, so in a desperate attempt to substitute in a new bad habit instead of facing what was bothering me, I bought some lacy undies. As the totally mad lark, I included a pair of thongs (42 yo here).

    Finally today I put them on, trusting in what people have told me: The wedgie feeling goes away and they become the most comfortable thing you've ever worn.

    Now, it's almost 11am, and I still feel like I have a wad of material stuffed in my heiny. Just when does this feeling go away?????

    Okay, so I lurk mostly on this thread cuz I just can't keep up, but this just deserved a great big

    :lol: :lol: :lol:

  2. Time to audible like Johnny U.!!!

    (BIG bonus points if anyone *here* knows that last name - no fair asking DHs!)(fewer pts if u know it but grew up near Maryland)

    Well pooh that your flight got cancelled...Claire has to be at the airport at 3:00...maybe you guys can meet up there, lol.

    The only Johnny U that comes to mind with audible is Johnny Unitas. I didn't grow up anywhere near Maryland--California girl here.

    I think you can use the microwave as long as you don't touch it. I think you can use a pencil eraser tip to program it......then get out of the room while it's going.

    Well THAT's good! :P

  3. Donna, Claire and Tom...have fun tomorrow! Somebodys gonna have to take a pic of the three of you together....of course Donna will look like this....

    I can "sort of" eat almonds now!! :)

    I'm going to try to remember to bring my camera, lol.

    Wow, how awesome is it that you can eat almonds!?! That's amazing!

    You have both our ph#s so just call once you're out and we'll say when for WG. (Yay!)

    Okie dokie! :)

    Has anyone here tried a netti pot? It is supposed to kill all the beasties, as well as clear alergies, in the nasal and sinus cavities like nobody's business. I don't know if you are able to handle salt yet but it's a simple salt + warm water solution that bathes and cleanses the tissues all up in there.

    ...

    Donna- you might try taking one of yourmagnesium at your bedtime snack and see if it makes a difference with your sleep, if nothing else it will sure relax you

    I didn't try the pot, but I did do nasal washes...I think they helped a little, but at the time I did them I was during the 3-year-constant-sinus-infection period and NOTHING helped. They might actually help more now that I'm over that vicious cycle of terror. :P I think my food intolerances and the lyme are affecting me the most in that area, so as long as I keep that under control, my sinuses aren't bad.

    I tried taking my last magnesium capsule at bedtime last night. Too soon to tell I think. I'm not sure the snack thing is helping either...I may have to experiment with what I eat and how much. So far, very restless nights the last two nights. :(

    Just checking in.

    Hi Lisa, good to hear from you...I was actually wondering how you were once I realized we hadn't heard from you in a while. Your post sounds better than the last few that's for sure!

    For example....if you're living with toxic mold....I dont think the treatments would be as effective as they would if you were not exposed to mold everyday. I dont think you can overcome any chronic illness while still being exposed to whatever is causing it in the first place.

    Yep, one reason why I haven't asked for the LED Dr's info yet, lol. Pretty sure I've got that living-with-toxic-mold thing happening, so not sure how much I would get out of the treatments at this point in time...then there's the whole, no stove or microwave thing... :lol: Donna might starve to death in 25 hours. :lol:

  4. Donna,

    That's interesting what your doctor said about eating before sleep. One of my acupuncturists, who is really into adrenal therapy, also has all his patients doing the same to improve sleep. He suggested eating 5 raw almonds immediately before going to sleep, along with a magnesium ( if one can tolerate it). I guess the ratio of protein and fat, and other nutrients in the raw almonds promote good sleep.

    Hi Julie!!!! {{{waving hand wildly}}}

    Yep, there was a definite thing with the ratio of the carbs, fat and proteins in what the doc gave me. I do take magnesium, but I take two at once for my last evening snack (not the new bedtime one)...maybe I should take one of them at bedtime.

    Will I quickly recognize you Donna if your hair is different and you're not frozen mid-guffaw???! :lol::D:P

    (Hair about same as av right?)

    And what the heck time DO we meet? Find out tomorrow? U can call whenever u know.

    Maybe I'll see Claire first if you're hung up past 1:30.

    Hair is about the same, just a tad longer...will not be frozen mid-guffaw. :lol: Does Claire know were we're meeting?! I'm not sure I'm the best one to give directions from downtown, lol.

  5. I bet I've been to very same one. Not many in the south bay.

    South from WhF, maybe Curtner or Camden?

    Nice new avatar! :) There's one on Camden, but that's not the one, lol. I actually eat with my mom and aunt, so go to one closer to their house.

    I have nightlites in the bathrooms and we have them all over the house. Children won't allow them to leave their bedrooms. I do have a small one in my room for Seth too.

    I have heard that the blue light is better, which is what we use.....we just buy blue nightlite bulbs.

    Hum, mine are green, so the light is very dim...maybe I should check out blue.

  6. I thought this was interesting.... (taken from the AOL news story about George W's lyme):

    "Lyme disease is a tick-borne infection that, if left untreated, can cause arthritis and other problems. Symptoms can include lethargy, joint pain, fever, limping and loss of appetite. A bacterial disease, it can be eradicated with antibiotic treatment in the early stages, but can become more complicated to treat if not caught early."

    I'm happy that it acknowledges that lyme IS a problem if not treated and CAN lead to other things. Um, I haven't experienced the loss of appetite thing though. :lol:

  7. Okay so the test I had done was called a Metabolic Profile. It tested for digestion of dietary protein and/or an overgrowth of bacteria in the small and/or large intestine. That came out negative which is good. :P

    It also tested for Urinary Lipid Peroxides. "Elevated levels of lipid peroxides is an index of cellular membrane damage due to the action of free radicals. The elevation of lipid perioxides can serve as an early warning of the long term effects of oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can result from exposure to toxins or pathogens, from inappropriate lifestyle factors, excessive exercise, or byproducts of normal metabolism." My score, 5.89. Reference range 1.00 - 7.50.

    It tested for urinary bile acide sulfates--a direct measurement of liver function. "Bile acid levels are regulated by teh enterohepatic circulation and little leaks into the bloodstream and in consequence little is converted to sulfate and excreted in the urine. Elevated bile acid levels are associated with impaired liver function, hepatocellular damage, and a high specificity toward hepatobiliary disesases." My score 10.50. Reference range 1.00 - 12.00.

    Here are some of the snacks Dr. R suggested for my bedtime feasting, lol:

    One piece of deli turkey or chicken (with no preservatives, 1/2 apple, and 6-10 almonds

    A hard boiled egg, small peice of fruit and a few nuts

    1-2 ounces of meat (a few bites) leftover from a meal (like THAT's likely to happen :lol: this girl likes to eat and I eat everything as often as I can) and a couple of pieces of celery with a little peanut butter on them

    A serving of plain or fruit sweetened yogurt (no added sugar)

    A protein bar that contains allergy-free ingredients and has a balance of 3 parts protein to 2 parts carbs

    ~~~
    I also told him about my cookie/chocolate chip binge. He thinks I should stay away from ALL grains. I said I normally DO. :lol::rolleyes:
    ~~~

    Some of the other things he wants me to try as far as sleep...keep my bedroom very dark. It's odd that he specifically mentioned my clock. Just last week the light from it actually started to bother me, so I'm having to turn it away from me. Anyway, he was talking about some sleep study that someone did where they got a group of people, had them sleep in a totally darkened room. Then they shown just a small light on the back of their calf...they measured a definite decrease in melatonin in those people who had the light shine on their CALF... He said you don't actually have to see the light with your eyes, that if it reaches any part of your body, it's enough.

    I have two very, very dim night lights that I use because my bathroom is VERY close to the top of my stairs and I can just seen in my lyme middle of the night with no sleep stupor heading for the bathroom and hitting the stairs instead. :P Anyway, the light is just enough so I can actually see the stairs faintly. I may have to get darker curtains though...I have blinds on my window, but only sheer curtains over that, so some light comes in.

  8. Is it possible the sleep troubles are from the lyme or mercury/molds?

    Oh yeah, I'm pretty certain it does. I think Dr. S does too. Dr. Rick may also think so, but he's willing to try a lot of stuff to see if it helps, and this is low cost, lol. I've always been a "light" sleeper, but never used to wake up so much during the night. I'm thinking it must be related to the lyme since that seems to be affecting every area and system of my body. :(

    Just popping in from San Jose to say hi! This conference certaintly isn't gluten-free friendly, but I met a celiac woman on my field trip today :) . A couple of people were talking on the field trip about the mercury mines up in the hills around here and how it comes down the watershed. Scarey.

    Gosh, like Tom, sorry I couldn't have been more help. I only eat out at two places...Carls Jr. and Outback, lol. I only eat at one Carls Jr. and so far have had very good luck there ordering their low carb burger (it's wrapped in lettuce)...I get it without cheese and stuff. Outback has a gluten free menu, and I've had really good luck there many times...except the last time I went. I think they put the seasoned butter on my sweet potatoe, cuz I had a tummy ache immediately afterwards.

    Thats what I was thinking too.

    It reminds of what I read about the autoimmune reactions that occur when there are toxins in the body. I actually thought about Donna when I read this becuase of the sleep example.

    Thats why they treat for autoimmune stuff with each toxin they address in LED....cuz apparantly these things are all related.

    Hopefully eating before bed solves the problem (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Donna :) )....if not it may be something that is a direct result of toxicity....like the examples in the quote.

    Well, I still woke up last night, but only remember one time lasting any length. Interesting stuff you posted about it. I think that's why Dr. S gave me the supplement to take...he said it would help with detox in the middle of the night. I ran out of it a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting until my appointment on Tuesday to get more. :(

    Here is an exciting development. I desperately wanted that new OPI Nail Lacquer called Just Groovy. It is this funky blue, like a Smurf. I love it! I called JCPenney's salon, and they only had one left! I got it, too! :) Maybe I am lucky afterall! Although, $7.50 is a lot for nail polish, but I deserve it! I have not gotten anything for myself in months!

    Cool. Course, you are a much better artist than I, but if you don't want to paint designs on your toes you can get decals at Walgreen's, Long's, and probably lots of other stores...beauty supply places have them too. I have jewels on my toes at the moment. :P Polish is a cross between bubble gum pink and fuschia pink, and I have jeweled flowers on my toes. This weekend the color gets changed...not sure what yet...maybe black glitter. :lol:

  9. Quick post...got home really late from my appointment. THe good news is that it looks like I am detoxing well. My liver function is normal. They measured 3 things...I'll have to post more tomorrow though.

    We talked about my sleep again, he wants me to try something new. I described my waking pattern and then he asked me some very focused questions. IN the end he thinks I may have a type of low blood sugar that causes problems during the night. So he wants me to try eating right before I go to bed. He gave me some guidelines of snacks, so I'm going to try it tonight...he literally wants me to eat, brush my teeth then go to bed. So, I'm willing to give this a try because I'm not willing to take more supplements to help me sleep...I'm already taking a bunch of 5-HTP and a couple of melatonin tablets.

  10. thank you, i will let you know what i find out. My doctor is very supportive and has been great since the day I walked into her office over 13 years ago, whenever I bring up a new issue she is always sure to address it, without her I don't know where I would be at today. thanks for your support.

    Isn't it amazing what a little support will do. I never knew how important it was to have that support from my doctors until I finally received it from my doctors this last year. It has made all the difference! Welcome!

  11. Yes, I am allergic to almost all of the molds (skin scratch test) and other things. I received allergy shots twice a week for 3 years, which didn't really help much (was allergic to nearly everything they tested me for)...at that point my allergist retired and I started seeing the allergist who took over his practice. They retested me and have a different way of doing the shots and at the same time I figured out the gluten/casein connection, so cut those out. I was still allergic to mold, but not so many other things when they retested me. I'm now only getting my "maintenance" shots once a month.

    The only food I am allergic to is oats, but I am intolerant to some degree to nearly all foods. :(

    I DO know someone who just had mold found and fixed in their home, so eventually I'll call that company to check my bathroom (which is where I think the majority must be). I do think my carpet has a bunch too though, and I've needed to replace it for years.

    My most recent test was a blood test where they found elevated levels of the 3 most common bad molds, which indicates mold toxicity.

  12. I also would like to know if anyone has tried using Nystatin before? Good results?

    How long did it take to feel the results? I have a lot of fatigue and my nervous system seems out of wack (Sometimes anxiety like symptoms). My son has tourettes syndrome which I am on a mission to fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least get rid of the tics from view...or at least a lot. I did this, but they came back and then we went to an allergist and got this diagnosis. He is amazing and trusts me with his diet. I can almost feed him anything, but he will be so excited to have something new. He is really enjoying fisth, we tried salmon the other day and he loved it. He is very sick of chicken, but if someone has a good recipe with a sauce of some sort that works, he may just be thrilled! Is shell fish a problem for anyone????

    I have used Nystatin before. It was okay. I really didn't notice any major differences taking it...at first I thought it was helping, but after 3 months or so, wasn't sure...I think staying on an antifungal/anti-candida type diet was what helped me more (and the fact that it was naturally gluten-free really helped too).

    I haven't had my house tested and I have lived in places that have mold. My husband is in the miltary and often we have assigned housing. It's not like I have the choice of moving if it doesn't work out for me. I just have to make the best of things.

    Yep, my end result is about the same. I can't afford to move, and I can't afford to rip out the carpets at this time. The doctor wants me to get hardwood floors, but I'm currently spending all my money on doctors visits, supplements and stuff like that, lol. So I'm doing what I can in my diet, and the rest will have to come later. My doctor is not pleased about it though...he really believes that it will be much harder for me to recover if I'm still exposed to the mold.

  13. Just wanted to let everyone know I got ahold of Rachel.

    Yay!

    There was celebratory screams going on....I FLEW outta bed to see Bonds hit 756!! :D

    Dang...I should've been watching. I saw on the news the other day that he had tied the record, then completely forgot about it. :( I hate foggy headedness...

    I have heard Lyme causes a lot of skin sensations that can be bothersome. The pricking feeling is something that comes every now and again. I also have hyper reflexes. Whenever Dart licks my toes, it makes me twitch. I am not sure if there is anything that can be done until I am diagnosed and treated, though.

    From what I've read on LN, people do seem to have good luck with reduced symptoms of this kind once they are on treatment, at least eventually. Just the fact that my skin hasn't burned in quite a few weeks is encouraging to me and I haven't even begun heavy treatment yet...just the herbals.

  14. You gotta love dogs like that. I had a very protective one too, years ago.

    It was made even more dramatic by the fact that both dogs absolutely LOVED people and other animals...my first dog especially...she'd run towards most people, but there was a guy approaching and she would not let me walk on the same side of the street...absolutely dragged me across the street.

  15. Those sensations do feel like bug bites. I always think I got bit by a spider or something, like you described. It is so weird. Is Lyme responsible for that? Sometimes I feel like something is crawling on me, too.

    ...

    I do dishes, laundry, clean out the fridge, and all kinds of other things. He just lays around mostly. He is even afraid of mice! Yorkies originally chased mice out of homes. Ours hears them, and runs! :lol: The other day, a fly was in, and he ran and tried to hide from it under my legs! :lol:

    Well, I see a lot of people on LN talking about feeling like they're being stuck with needles, so it might be associated with lyme. I also get the feeling like things are crawling on me. I'm also looking through spirochette eyeballs. :(

    The animals we had when I was a child were all fraidy-cats, but the two dogs I've had as an adult were fearless, lol. They were both Westies and man they thought they were big dogs...both of them, lol. Mostly they weren't afraid of anything, but had each one of them take me across the street a couple of times when someone was approaching they didn't feel comfortable with. (Yes, those little dogs can take you if they really want to--small but mighty, lol.) :P

  16. I was diagnosed with mold allergies in 2003, and most recently with mold toxicity in April of this year. My allergist told me to avoid the obvious offenders like cheeses, moldy fruits, etc. I have since learned that if you are highly sensitive, even eating leftovers can be a problem...I tend to freeze things right away rather than store them in the refrigerator. I also stay away from things like mushrooms, most fermented things and juices (they tend to use overly ripe fruit for juices and that can be moldy even if the mold isn't visible).

    I haven't had my home tested yet...I see my doctor next week and he will not be pleased about this, lol. At the very least he wants me to have my 20+ year old carpet torn out as soon as possible. :( I also had a leak in the walls in my bathroom, so am pretty sure there is mold there.
