  1. I've lost a couple of pounds. That's good since I'd gained about 7 pounds from binging on gluten-free junk food. I'm one of those gluten-intolerant people who is not underweight, but not heavy either.
  2. Wow, your original post could have been written by me only we've (my now retired ENT/Allergist and I) been trying to figure out what's wrong for almost 4 years! I has some type of respiratory infection just about every 6 weeks. He gave me ever increasing dosages (until I was up to 4000mg per day) of antibiotics each and every time plus prednisone. Those...
  3. I'm taking flax oil because my eye doctor wants me too, lol. I told him I had the oil, but didn't like the taste and he said the pills were fine (they're softgels). Most of the brands at Whole Foods had carob in the soft gel capsule, but we finally found one...I'll have to check the name when I get home because I sure had never heard of it before. I...
  4. You're welcome! I've been eating TONS of carrots as well. I think I bought 4 or 6 pounds of carrots last week and had used them up by Friday. This week I bought 10 pounds of carrots, lol. I've already used 5 to make chicken soup and to have some to freeze for my lunches this week. I think cooking them just makes them much easier to digest. I do think...
  5. Yay, I added green beans yesterday (cooked really well) and so far so good. I also had tuna one day. I also had a bit of diluted orange juice this morning. I'm sooooo looking forward to adding some of the stuff in the next phase, lol. Some friends wanted to go out to lunch yesterday and at first I said no because I didn't want it to be a big problem...
  6. Ditto. The diet was originally designed for people with all sorts of digestive problems, not just celiac, so it might very well help. Okay everyone, I made a recipe from the book today. Remember, I am no cook, lol. I made the banana pancakes...there are two recipes in the book, I made the one with just mashed banana and egg. It wasn't pretty. ...
  7. Rachel, I hope that's the answer! I would be very cool if that helped!!!
  8. I LOVE that my friends and family are being very supportive. LOVE that none of them questioned me when I first tried the gluten free diet without knowing for sure if I needed to. I LOVE that the new group of doctors I've been seeing haven't questioned my gluten sensitivity testing through Enterolab. I LOVE that I feel I can talk over the whole...
  9. Fortunately they don't seem to be much of a problem where I live, work and hang out, but I do get bit frequently when I go into areas where they are more active.
  10. Phew, that was a great link. I've read almost all the original link but printed it so I can reread. I've also printed info off a link within that one on vitamins, herbs, etc.
  11. I'm just taking the spinach out for now...really that's all that was new anyway, so I guess I'm back to the intro by default, lol. I've been eating ground beef, applesauce, really ripe bananas, cooked carrots, apple cider (not a lot), unsweetened grape juice and added chicken about 3 days ago. So, the spinach was the newest. I'm now going to wait a couple...
  12. I haven't heard of that one specifically, but I've been reading more and more about grains being bad. I'm currently trying the SCD so might go over to look at some of the recipes. By-the-way, thanks for praying for me!
  13. I hate that I can't remember what I hate! ETA: that was sort of a joke, but actually now that I think of it, I really DO hate that I can't remember...
  14. WOW!!!! I just tried well cooked chopped spinach last night and same thing...I didn't really have a reaction, but I knew if I continued eating it I would be sick, so I stopped. Later in the evening I had slightly upset stomach and a little cramping. That sounds easy enough for me, lol. I'll try it tomorrow (after I buy some pears, lol).
  15. Oh ya, I am just about over carrots, lol. I tried spinach last night for something different, but couldn't even finish it for some reason...guess I'll have to buy 4 bags of carrots this week.

    ARCHIVED Butter?

The brand I buy at Whole Foods says casein free on the label...course I don't use a lot of it just in case. ETA: course I don't know if they do something differently than we at home could do.
  17. My nails are terrible. They break at the corners and peel. I have ridges down from top to bottom, which I know means something, just can't remember what, lol. I also have little "clouds"--white spots that look like little clouds.
  18. Umm, that sounds good...maybe something with the coconut milk and gelatin with some honey for sweetness...may even be good with sweetened coconut milk yogurt.
  19. Hum, I used to get compliments on my lashes, but I've never personally thought they were particularly long or full. I know they point downwards, so in order to see them I have to curl them...so maybe all that curling over the years has stunted them, lol.
  20. Ha! At least you can remember SOMETHING, lol. I have the hardest time, I definitely can't remember what I've just read most of the time.
  21. Rachel - that's a great explanation!
  22. I'll try boiling, lol. As far as when to add...I'm not sure the book really ever said--it was mostly geared towards people with D and the D was the indicator, but didn't address those of us who didn't have it but still need to let our guts heal. I think I'm going to at least wait three weeks (since I've been making some mistakes, grrr)...maybe a month....
  23. Wow, what a journey you've had. You are definitely not alone here that's for sure. Regarding the comment about you NOT actually having Celiac. If you had positive blood tests that confirms you have Celiac! The biopsy was done after you had been gluten free for some time it is unlikely that even if you had been consumming gluten for a few days or even...
  24. Congratulations Charlie! I so agree with the concrete diagnosis...it really helped cement in my mind that I need to be diligent even about seeming small things. My family is fairly supportive of most of my efforts to feel better, but it also helped to make THEM more serious about being diligent. The casein was even harder to give up than gluten for me...
  25. Dani - Hum, this is only a guess, but perhaps whether or not we have D, our intestines just need to start the real healing process before it can handle the raw stuff. I don't know though. I have two oranges on my counter that I'm crazy to eat, but I have been worried about eating them, lol. I guess I'll just have to squeeze the juice out before they go...
