looking to go gluten and dairy free
knitty kitty replied to EileenB1022's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Blood tests can be false negatives if not enough gluten was eaten for a long enough duration prior to testing. Damage typically seen in Celiac Disease can easily be missed due to the size of the small intestine (the size of a tennis court if laid out flat) and the patchiness of the damage. Some damage is out of the reach of endoscope. Some damage can... -

I had genetic testing for Celiac Disease because I got so ill consuming gluten. Many doctors are capable of doing genetic testing. There's genetic test kits done through the mail. I do have brain health issues. I was so deficient in certain vitamins and minerals I developed ataxia and Wernicke's Encephalopathy. Yes, my vitamin deficiency... -

@EileenB1022, If you were tested three times this year and were not consuming enough gluten to produce antibodies, the tests would have shown False Negatives. -

@EileenB1022, Welcome to the forum! We're very familiar with Celiac Disease and the various health conditions that can occur with it. It takes ten years or longer for some of us to be properly diagnosed because Celiac Disease can cause so many effects on different organs and body systems. We Celiacs have wasted precious years of our lives... -
@Termite, Welcome to the forum! If you can't tolerate the eight weeks of gluten challenge for testing of antibodies against gluten in the blood as @trents mentioned, testing for any genes for Celiac Disease and positive response on a gluten free diet may be taken as a diagnosis for Celiac Disease by some doctors. Keep us posted on your progress...

Cigarettes have gluten?
knitty kitty replied to itarachiu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
@itarachiu, Welcome to the forum! I have a problem with nightshades, a group of plants that contains glycoalkaloids that can cause inflammation and promote autoimmune responses. Whether I eat them or smoke tobacco, nightshades cause symptoms like you describe. I've had to cut out all nightshades from my diet and quit smoking. Like @Wheatwacked said... -
Histamine Intolerance after Gluten Challenge
knitty kitty replied to BushbabyLou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I take Thiamine at the beginning of meals and magnesium after the meal. And I do take Magnesium at bedtime with tryptophan (a form of Niacin Vitamin B3 that is required for those feel good neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, and helps heal the intestines) and Pyridoxine Vitamin B6 which works with Thiamine to heal the nerves and helps with relaxation...- 37 replies

Have you tried a magnesium citrate supplement? Magnesium helps muscles relax. And magnesium is a catalyst for Thiamine. As you may have noted in the studies I posted, higher than RDA amounts of Thiamine are needed to help in an insufficiency or deficiency of Thiamine (500 mg or more). Thiamine Hydrochloride, Allithiamine and Benfotiamine are beneficial...

@Chris91, It would be a good idea to get proper Celiac testing done, like @trents suggests. You could be doing serious damage to your long term health. Some scientific studies are suggesting that NCGS symptoms may be preliminary to Celiac Disease in some people. Genetic testing or antibody testing after gluten challenge would be beneficial. Malabsorption...

Remember that processed gluten free facsimile foods are not required to be enriched with vitamins and minerals like their gluten containing counterparts. We need the Eight Essential B Vitamins to turn our carbs and fats into energy and enzymes so our bodies work properly. Consider supplementing with a gluten free B Complex and magnesium citrate. ...

Arsenic binds with Thiamine Vitamin B1. Arsenic binds with Thiamine making that thiamine unavailable for the body to use. Arsenic can bind so much Thiamine that Arsenic can precipitate a Thiamine deficiency. If you eat rice, make sure you take thiamine, whether from food sources like meat and liver or from supplements like thiamine hydrochloride...

Are tics a symptom of Celiacs?
knitty kitty replied to FunShine's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@FunShine, Celiac Disease damages the small intestine where vitamins and minerals are absorbed. This leads to malnutrition and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It's rare to have a deficiency in just one vitamin or mineral. There's usually deficiencies across the board. One of the first vitamins to become deficient is Thiamine Vitamin B1 because... -

Histamine Intolerance after Gluten Challenge
knitty kitty replied to BushbabyLou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Niacin in the form of nicotinic acid will cause vasodilation. Vasodilation is when your blood vessels expand allowing for more blood flow. Histamine is released as part of the vasodilation process. It's a normal body process to release histamine as a signal for certain things to happen. Our bodies make and break down histamine constantly. We can...- 37 replies

Advice please
knitty kitty replied to Ellawells's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome back, @Ellawells, Calcium often causes constipation. Some over the counter calcium supplements have propylene glycol (Fleet - the stuff taken before colonoscopy to flush out the bowels) added in. When Calcium is supplemented, magnesium should be supplemented as well. They should be taken in a 2:1 ratio, twice as much calcium as magnesium... -
@UncleBen, @trents is on the right track. Some people are highly sensitive to the least amount of gluten contamination on the inside. Not so much on the outside (on the skin). Throwing away the doll was probably a bit over the top. If you feel so badly for its loss, ask a local quilters group or a sewist on Etsy to recreate one for your niece...

I feel so bad
knitty kitty replied to Sergey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Sergey I believe the amino acid L-tryptophan is far more beneficial for intestinal healing. Tryptophan (along with B6 Pyridoxine and magnesium citrate) help down regulate inflammation and promote healing. Glutamine, found in meat in the diet and recycled from what glutamine the body already contains, can be made into glutamate in the body. Glutamate... -
Bloating and Other Issues
knitty kitty replied to Ginger38's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Keep a journal of what you eat and the time you eat, what kind of bowel movements you have and when, and how you feel emotionally. Dairy makes me terribly depressed. And I get diarrhea with dairy. A day or two later I get dermatitis. Keeping my food/mood/poo'd journal helped me become aware of the connection. The Autoimmune Protocol Diet ...
