@Anne Jory, A stressor, like receiving the Covid vaccines, causes your immune system to gear up and make anti-Covid antibodies. This immune system response uses up lots of Thiamine Vitamin B1 and can tip the balance into Thiamine deficiency. Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include unintentional weight loss, diarrhea, and thyroid problems. Without...

getting worse waiting for endoscopy
knitty kitty replied to cteo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with @trents that doctors are pretty clueless about testing protocols. It is the reason the average time for a diagnosis is ten years during which time a cascade of health issues can occur, further clouding the real source of the problem while doctors merely prescribe pharmaceuticals to alleviate the symptoms. And, no, severity of symptoms... -
getting worse waiting for endoscopy
knitty kitty replied to cteo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, @cteo! One only need eat two slices of wheat bread a day. Perhaps you are eating much more than this amount and maybe you could cut back a little. You may want to consider cutting back on dairy as well. Dairy can cause additional inflammation and higher ttg levels. Eliminating dairy might lessen the severity of some of your... -

Possible Celiac?
knitty kitty replied to VictoriaSmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Our bodies produce other antibodies than just ttg2, the antibody most suspected Celiacs are tested for. Ttg6 has recently been recognized as an antibody involved in gluten ataxia. So maybe they just have not discovered the connection yet. Did you make any changes in your diet during those times of improvement? Things I found helpful with my skin... -

Thiamine deficiency can cause a voracious appetite. I went through this myself. Gluten containing food products frequently do not contain enough bioavailable thiamine to process the carbohydrates into energy. Gluten free processed food products are not required to be enriched with missing vitamins. Thiamine deficiency can cause an increase...

@nimzabo, I'm familiar with thiamine deficiency because I suffered from it and have done much research on it. Thiamine deficiency is linked to cardiac problems such as you describe. It's called "Wet Beriberi". I had heart monitoring and the doctors could not find anything wrong. Another aspect of Thiamine deficiency is called "sailors' asthma...

Welcome to the forum! I agree with @trents that the full Celiac panel of blood tests needs to be done while you are consuming gluten. Some people are serionegative. Anemia and diabetes can cause serionegatives. So, yes, the endoscopy is worth pursuing. I'm not a geneticist, but I found some interesting articles about the connection...

Question about celiac testing
knitty kitty replied to mspat3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Weight that won't shift is often indicative of Thiamine deficiency. You really should read this article as it explains how eating a heavy carbohydrate diet can result in an insufficiency of thiamine which causes additional fat storage... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8533683/#!po=49.4565 Substituting a gluten free high carbohydrate... -
Question about celiac testing
knitty kitty replied to mspat3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it can occur there, too. Riboflavin deficiency is bad to cause a rash in the nether regions, as well. If you get tested for vitamin deficiencies, you need to be off of supplements for six to eight weeks. Otherwise, you'll just be measuring the supplements you've been taking. Blood tests are not really an accurate measurement of vitamin deficiencies... -

knitty kitty replied to Bill1991's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I suffered vertigo. I found Vitamin D resolved it within a few weeks, but Thiamine Vitamin B1 and B12 helps as well. Reducing caffeine helps, too. Are you keeping a food diary? It can help pinpoint symptoms with certain foods. I found high histamine foods would trigger reactions, but avoiding them for a while was helpful in calming my... -

For Reference... The one thing that made the biggest difference for me was taking high dose Thiamine Vitamin B1. Yes, I was taking a multivitamin and still had symptoms. @Kate333, My heart goes out to you. I've dealt with the same symptoms. The one thing that made the biggest difference for me was taking high dose Thiamine Vitamin B1. Welcome to the forum! Do keep in mind that Celiac Disease results in malnutrition because the damage to the small intestine prevents absorption of vitamins and minerals. Question about celiac testing

That rash around your neck could be Casal's Necklace caused by a deficiency in Niacin Vitamin B3. I had experienced the explosive uncontrollable diarrhea. And I had Casal's Necklace. I had Pellagra. Niacin deficiency causes the deficiency disease Pellagra. The four stages of Pellagra are Diarrhea, Dermatitis, Dementia and Death. Casal's Necklace... -
Possible Celiac?
knitty kitty replied to VictoriaSmith's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear you're trying thiamine! You may want to pick up a magnesium citrate supplement, too. Magnesium works as a cofactor with thiamine. And consider a B Complex supplement, as well, to make sure you get all eight B vitamins. Thiamine and the other B vitamins all need each other to function properly. Yes, the doctors' ignorance of the symptoms... -

@VictoriaSmith and all, I've experienced Gastrointestinal Beriberi and Wernicke's Encephalopathy due to Thiamine deficiency. I’m Done and Feel Like Giving up
knitty kitty replied to Ginger38's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, the AIP diet and Benfotiamine helped me lose weight. I take one 100 mg capsule with each meal. I take a B Complex once a day. And a magnesium citrate supplement which is needed for Thiamine (Benfotiamine) to function properly. The B vitamins need each other to function properly. Taking just one of the B vitamins can throw some of the other B... -
I’m Done and Feel Like Giving up
knitty kitty replied to Ginger38's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
@Ginger38, Have you looked into the Autoimmune Protocol Diet? The AIP diet has really helped me. I have Type Two Diabetes in addition to Celiac. The AIP diet excludes dairy, grains, nightshades, and legumes which gives the intestines time to heal. It's basically meat and vegetables. For fast dinners, I throw a ground beef patty and some frozen...
