ARCHIVED What Are Your Favorite Things From "whole Foods" ?
hlm34 replied to kathy1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
its been said already, but i second the bakehouse blueberry muffins. it has that granulated sugar on top. its sooo good! Also, i really like the enjoy life brown rice bread. Yes, the pieces are small but since the bread is a little heavier - it still feels like you've got a lot. i have two pieces for breakfast every morning. -

hlm34 replied to DoctorDave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a bunch of New Grist in my fridge. Awful name, but great beer. a cross between a cider and a regular beer in my opinion. soooo good. i believe on their website it says you can get it in Michigan. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer
hlm34 replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
new grist is awesome. i believe that on the website it will tell you which liquor stores in your area carry it. If you have a Binnys - they have it. but some of our smaller liquor stores here in chicago have it too. Lakefront Brewery makes it. -
there is a link sausage i like - aidelles. I keep finding it in the meat section. It says gluten free right on the front of the label. There are one or two flavors that are not gluten free - but just look on the front of the label. I love the Cajun Andoille, i had an apple flavor one and also and artichoke and garlic. All very very good. makes a quick dinner...

ARCHIVED Great Restaurant Experience In Chicago
hlm34 replied to hlm34's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
OMG!! Looooooooove Vinci's. Have you been there? wow - it made me feel like a real person again. i went to wildfire and ordered off their "gluten free" menu - but my steak was just a plain ole steak with no sauce - it just looked like a dried up piece of you know what. but at Vinci - i got a half order of pasta for my appetizer (which was so good) and then... -
You are right. I DO fail to see how an "entire concept of birth control is dominated with the hormonal wreakage of the female body". I really don't think it is that at all.

Just thought I would share the great experience I had at Fogo de Chao! My brother-in-law desperately wanted to go to this restaurant last night. Its one of those brazilian places where they have all this meat and the employees go around serving to your table right off this giant skewer. They have like 15 kinds of meat and you have this little card next...

my dad bought me a case of this the other day!! I live in chicago and he found it out in the western suburbs. I am such a beer girl - so i was practically in tears when i saw all that beer - all for me!! apparently he talked to the liquor store manager and the manager said that the Bard's Tale beer had been recalled because there were many cases of the bottles... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Cereal?
hlm34 replied to WGibs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i too like the enjoylife cinnamon "granola" - but i cant believe how small the bag is!!! The box is tiny and then you open it up and take out the bag and the bag is only half the size of the box! Its almost the size of a sugar packet or something! I almost fell over when i saw that!! i used to be a big cereal eater and i could easily put away a half box of... -

hi there. i am from Chicago and am seeing a very good doctor at the University of Chicago. Her name is Dr. Carol Semrad. I am not going to lie - she is not the most personable doctor out there, a little on the dry side - but she knows a lot about celiac. I also see a dietician at the U of C by the name of Dr. Beth Wall. During my first visit she sat with...

ARCHIVED Aidells Sausages
hlm34 replied to redheadheather's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i've used the cajun flavor several times. LOVE them. i keep em in the fridge and its so nice to just heat up real quick for a quick meal - i use them on top of pizza, in a cheese and sausage quesadilla with a corn toritilla, throw them in with some black beans and rice, make an omelette with them. i also make a pretty good jambalya with them. My fiancee loves... -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Miss The Stupid Things?
hlm34 replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
so strange! when people ask me what i've missed the most i always say "entemanns chocolate donuts and pizza hut pizza!!"its good to hear i am not alone! i swear - when a pizza hut commercial comes on the TV i practically lick the TV screen. Making your own pizza is just not the same - I want it to be delivered to my house in that cardboard box - all greasy... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Crackers
hlm34 replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i agree with the blue diamond nut thins. you can find them at whole foods -i've been unable to find them at my regular grocery store. I've tried the cheddar flavor and the regular almond flavor. So good - it feels like you are eating real crackers. I loved the cheddar flavor so much i almost ate them all at once! -

hlm34 replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
along the same lines - I was sitting at Flat Top grill yesterday when the lady at the table next to me told the waiter she had Celiacs and asked if he had wheat free options. I overheard her and said "HEEEEEY!!! Me too!!" and then I introduced myself and we chatted about our problems! I think the people we were with thought we were a little nuts, but i was... -
My sister made these and they were soooo good. I couldnt stop eating them! My friends who do not have Celiac couldnt stop eating them either! Keep them in the refrigerator - they are best when cold. Oreo Dreams(not real oreo - the fake ones - i believe Mi-Del makes them) 1 pkg. (8oz) softened cream cheese 1 pkg gluten free oreo cookies 1 1/2 tbsp...

ARCHIVED All My Levels Are Okay?
hlm34 replied to hlm34's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
thanks everyone. that helps. It has been two weeks since i found out that i had celiac and i have been gluten-free the whole time. No cheating - not once. It took two weeks for my blood tests to get here - and so as you can tell, i was confused by the results. I ate the pasta the night before i knew i had the disease. i guess it was a last hurrah if you... -
ARCHIVED All My Levels Are Okay?
hlm34 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
question from a newbie - I was diagnosed with Celiac two weeks ago. My blood test and endoscopy both tested positive for it. I had relatively few symptoms - though my doctor suspected that the celiacs had been active for quite awhile and that "i had probably not been absorbing any nutrients for awhile now". At that time they did a bone density scan and blood...
