  1. Goodwins is very near the Merchandise Mart. I work near there as well. Goodwins is on Franklin and Lake, so you basically just need to cross the river from the Mart. There is also another Chipotle on Lake and Franklin.
  2. i was in denver for one night only and went to Steubens in Downtown Denver. Sooo good. They have a gluten-free menu and it was great. I hear their sister restaraunt is called Vesta Dipping Grill and also has a gluten-free menu. both places have a website. I highly recommend steubens though!
  3. Just thought I would share--- My husband and i just returned from Aspen Canyon Ranch in Colorado where we went on vacation with 4 of our friends. It was a smaller type dude ranch. We rode horses all day, went skeet shooting and fly fishing. It was gorgeous and so much fun. We were there for 4 days, but wish we could have been there longer. Anyway, Debbie...

    ARCHIVED Chicago?

you gotta try vinci! sooooo good. in the city. Carnivale doesnt have a gluten-free menu, but they do work with you and they were so nice and helpful. Awesome food. Chips are made in a dedicated fryer and their guac is the best thing in the world.
  5. I've done oats with no problems, outwardly or inwardly, my doctor checked. i am so happy to have oats. I am lucky that i am in the percentage that i am ok with them.
  6. I am headed to Denver on Saturday for one night only. My friend really wants to go to this place. I know there are a lot of places to eat that are gluten-free in the Denver area, but I didnt see any reviews or gluten-free menus for this place. Has anyone eaten there and do they have a gluten free menu?? Any help would be much appreciated.
  7. Goodwins is a great deli in the loop that uses all Boar's Head meats which is good for us Celiacs. Their salads are awesome. They also have wraps and sandwhiches. but unfortunately they do not have corn tortillas. I've talked to the owner and he said he is looking for a place where he can order the large sized corn tortillas for wraps. Anyway, the website...
  8. yes its true, they definitely need a flourless chocolate cake or something like that. Probably the one negative thing i can say about vinci. But their food is great and the service has always been exceptional. I love the atomosphere too, a cute and romantic restaurant. anyone out there looking to host an event -- they have a really nice room that you can...
  9. i was at my sister's house on sunday and her husband and kids made her the gluten-free Authentic Foods blueberry muffins, and i thought they were pretty good. I've tried a few other blueberry muffin mixes before and thought they were terrible, but these were good.
  10. This may not be the correct place for this question -- but how do you search places in New York, when the search engine will not let you do a search of a phrase that contains a word with 3 or less letters. For instance, when i search "New York" it says it is unable to perform search because "New" has only 3 letters. Its always been the most frustrating thing...
  11. Just an FYI... Vinci is an italian restaraunt in Chicago (Halsted and Willow), their gluten-free menu is smaller, but they do great stuff. Great pasta dishes and always have a daily gluten-free risotto that is so good.
  12. I have seizures and celiac. They CAN be related, but it my case they are not. I wish the seizures were a result of the celiac though, and then being gluten-free would relieve them. Unfortunately, since they are not, i have to do the gluten-free diet AND take meds for the seizure. Have you had an EEG done?
  13. I went to Cabo in October for a friends wedding and i have to say - bring your own food. I know it sucks, and i hate carting all that food with me in my luggage, and i am pretty adveturous when it comes to seeking out food at places and trying to eat out, but its really hard in mexico. the language barrier is definitely part of it and no one there has heard...
  14. I am a diagnosed celiac and also have a seizure disorder. My first grand mal happened almost 2 years ago. About a month after that, i started dropping weight like crazy and became unable to eat anything. Soon after, i was given the blood test and an endoscopy. Both tested positive for Celiac. Before that seizure, i was healthy as could be. never had any celiac...
  15. There is a doctor at U of C that specializes in children with celiac. Stefano Guandalini. He is world-renowned. Supposed to be one of the best (very well known speaker and author) and he will only see children. I see a doctor at U of C there, but I can't get into see him. He does children only. See if you can get into him.
  16. PF Changs is awesome. And i am with Jen, Vinci is fabulous. Real italian food - not just some tasteless, spiceless, sauceless version of something on the regular menu. I also just went to a nice restaurant called Carnivale. Its new and hip and soooo good. Latin Food. They make their own chips (in their own fryer) and the guacamole is to DIE for. I could have...
  17. For any of you Chicagoans out there - I went to Carnivale a few weeks ago and love, love, loved it. Its on Fulton near Fulton Market. You can see it from 90/94 west. Its the same building as the old club The Drink. Really big, really cool, hip atomosphere. A very nice, fun place to have dinner. a little on the expensive side - but really nice for a special...
  18. the blueberry muffins at my whole foods are not in the freezer section, but the gluten-free bakery section and man are they good. so good. I love the little sugar sprinkles on top. love em. a great treat if you can find em. I cant always find em but when i do, i feel like i've won the lottery.
  19. I love Stila, philosophy, Lancome and Bobbi Brown. I just got some lancome juicy tubes in my easter basket. They smell so good. The Philosophy lipstick i got is called "fiction". very pretty, neutral color. The juicy tubes are a gloss. I like "tickled pink". Lancome has some very good lipsticks too.
  20. i love that bread. its the only one i eat. I only eat it toasted though. I have two slices toasted with butter every morning!
  21. I agree that my diet is my responsibility. i definitely know that. and i would never say it is someone else's responsibility. And i would never say that other people should miss out on pizza because i can't have it. I would never feel that way. All i am doing here is venting. I am sure alcoholics vent about feeling a little akward at a bar. Doesnt mean they...
  22. talk about karma - so i complain this morning - and then this afternoon my advertising agency whom i have been struggling with for awhile sends me a gift. The note thanks me for my cooperation and hard work, which is really sweet and thoughtful. - the gift? boxes of girl scout cookies! Oh well - i handed them to my hardworking team. Still i thought it was...
  23. I think everyone just needs to vent once in awhile. I dont think its neccessarily feeling sorry for yourself - its just venting. if you cant do it here - where can you do it?? BTW, i miss lots of foods - but as i explain to my friends - its not really the food - i could really care less about a piece of pizza. Its the social aspect of it. Not getting to...
  24. i love food for life brown rice bread. I eat two slices with butter every morning.
  25. i was running errands on saturday morning and was soooo hungry I was about to pass out. I forgot my snacks that i usually carry around with me, and the only thing in sight was a McDs. I went in and got some hash browns (reluctantly). Luckily, I was just fine and they tasted sooo good. Again, not for everyone, but i seem to be just fine with them.
