  1. Well, if it's what I see now and then, there's probably nothing to worry about. Upon awakening from a dream state, sometimes the dream imagery persists into the waking state, and I see it even if I open my eyes. An easy test is if you look at a different spot on the wall. If the thing you're seeing stays in the same location within your scope of vision...
  2. Really? Wow. How did you come to that conclusion? Or are you thinking of aspartame by any chance? Just in case you've been misinformed, Stevia is a completely natural extract, with zero carbs, zero sugars, zero calories, and zero on the glycemic index. It is extracted with plain water, so there are no chemical residues. There haven't been any reported negative...
  3. I think most of the neurological effects I had were from candida, though at the time, neither candida nor Celiac appeared on anyone's radar. The brain fog and inability to concentrate were very intense at times. I figured out the candida thing first, and once I got that resolved, the improvement was amazing, even though Celiac was unfortunately still lurking...
  4. I'm not sure. But, based on what I've read, tingling seems to be usually due to nutrient deficiencies. So if that's correct, then I'd think an intolerance alone might not be enough. If Celiac is defined as the auto-immune response, causing damage to the intestines, that's what would lead to the deficiencies. Typically, the nutrients which seem to be recommended...
  5. Well, canned foods, and stuff in sealed glass jars would be good. They have a shelf life of around two years. Obviously, things like crackers can last a little while, but I'd think your dollar will go farther with other things. Canned beans, veggies, fruits, etc seem logical. In an all-electric home/apartment, dry goods like rice are useless. In an all...
  6. The standard blood tests are not all that reliable at any age, and from what I've read, at age 6 it is even more prone to false negatives. I think the gene tests can be accurate thought, but not the antibody tests. So it may be that you'd know if he has the gene, but not know if he's Celiac. However, some places, such as Enterolab, claim higher accuracy....
  7. Just thought of something. Have you looked into the possibility of a candida overgrowth? This made me very irritable and cranky as a kid, always felt icky, would change my mind about food from one moment to the next, etc. Candida can also cause food intolerances, or what seem to be allergies. And, it does make you crave certain foods too.
  8. Good advice thus far. In my own experience, I got tremendous results with caprylic acid capsules. The initial die-off can be tough, so take it slow. Start with one capsule daily, and work up to the label recommendations. But, as was suggested, if gluten is still sneaking in somewhere, it would also explain how you feel.
  9. Well, I'm not sure I can offer anything which hasn't already been covered, in one form or another. But I do know that kids take cues from the people around them, and your husband is definitely not helping. Children will take every advantage of whatever others appear to "get away with". If they see how a parent will say or do something, which the other parent...
  10. Well, just as not every Celiac experiences D, weight loss, or other "classic" Celiac symptoms, not everyone with other food intolerances or allergies will have the "classic" responses either. It sounds to me like a severe intolerance or allergy. Keep in mind that the medical industry defines these things based on what's typically expected. Their definition...
  11. A few quick searches seems to indicate that ferritin formation depends on numerous other nutrients. Without further reading, I can only suggest taking some multivitamin and mineral supplements. What JennyC said also seems to make sense.
  12. I agree with what has already been said. You do not need to get a biopsy unless you yourself think the dietary response is coincidental, and if you have no intentions of following the gluten-free diet unless a doctor tells you to. It does take more than two weeks of gluten-eating to get damaged enough for the biopsy, and as others have stated, even then...
  13. HiDee: How would you compare stoneware to pyrex? Can you elaborate on the differences you've found between them? Like baking time, temp, and how the crust differs?
  14. There was never junk in the house when I was little either. No matter how much I hated what was on the table, there really wasn't any choice. I either ate it or went hungry. This did not make me like the food any better. Though there wasn't much I couldn't make myself swallow if I was hungry enough, some things just tasted putrid. If there were more than...
  15. I haven't ever read anything that suggested taking a lot of magnesium to bring levels up faster, and I'd think there'd possibly be a laxative effect in that case. Some forms are less prone to the laxative effect, but it's really only something to expect with high doses. However, calcium tends to balance out magnesium, so you can always take calcium with it...
  16. Well, there are different reason why a person may have to avoid vanilla. Some can't have the alcohol used in the extracts, and artificial vanilla (especially from Mexico) can contain a toxic substance called Open Original Shared Link. If the vanilla extract is all-natural, it is likely to be made with vodka. Since vodka is made from potatoes, someone who...
  17. A dairy-free diet does help many, especially during the initial healing process. Even if it wasn't dairy that made you sick, it doesn't hurt to avoid it. In actuality, casein and other animal proteins cause the body to loose calcium, up to three times faster than plant proteins.
  18. One other thought, is the possibility of a candida overgrowth. Leaky gut and candida seem to go hand-in-hand, and this can cause intolerances to all sorts of foods. In my experience, caprylic acid capsules worked great. Of course, you'd also need to avoid all sugars, yeasts (including yeast breads), vinegars (including ketchup), and fruit. Improvement should...
  19. Speaking from experience, my suggestion would be to try certain supplements. Deficiencies of B12 and magnesium are well-known to cause pains of various sorts. Plus, Celiac's are often deficient in these nutrients too. I'd make sure the B12 is a sublingual methylcobalamin type. I hope you get it sorted out soon!
  20. My first impression is that she has become deficient in certain nutrients. This can be a tough cycle to break. They refuse to eat the very things they need to overcome the problem. A little "child psychology" might work, though I'm no expert there. Thinking back to my childhood, the best way to get a kid to want something, is to tell them they can't have...
  21. I did used to get something like what you describe. One or two toes would just be drawn sideways or upwards, and the best I found for immediate relief was to apply pressure to the top of the effected foot with the heel of the other foot. But not against a surface. In other words, using the ankle joint to push that foot upward against something - I used the...
  22. Here is a safe/unsafe ingredients list: https://www.celiac.com/categories/Safe-Glut...3B-Ingredients/ Though artificial colors and flavors may be gluten-free, many (even non-celiacs) report having reactions to them. So, it is something to keep in mind, especially for those occasions when a symptom comes out of the blue. Some have reactions to things...
  23. It could be that he simply needs more time to heal. However, does he get symptoms that seem to come out of nowhere, like he ate something he shouldn't have? I don't know about taco seasoning containing gluten, but I do know that red pepper is often in that sort of stuff. Many find that nightshades are a problem. Also, have you tried eliminating other top...
  24. Well, it sure sounds like Celiac to me. If you really want to find out if it's gluten intolerance or Celiac, simply try the gluten-free diet for a while, and see how it goes. One quick test you could easily try, is to get a package of Tinkyada rice pasta. This is truly great pasta, and many on this board have served it to gluten-eaters, and they never...
  25. Is this the brat you had? Open Original Shared Link Although it says it's gluten-free, there is MSG in it, which does cause people problems. It may be that you won't be able to pin this one down, but I'm sure you'll figure things out over time.
