  1. I totally agree with the suggestion of sublingual methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12), and also the magnesium. All the B-complex formulas I've seen don't even come close to the amounts of B12 which many find they need. Plus, a good B12 supplement is a must for any vegan. Also, Celiac tends to make us prone to B12 deficiency. High amounts of magnesium can have...
  2. My guess on the potatoes is that they are a nightshade. Intestinal damage from Celiac tends to increase permeability, thus the toxic alkaloids more easily get through. But, sweet potatoes and yams are not nightshades, which might explain your lesser reaction to those. Depending on the nature of the intestinal damage, certain foods just don't digest well...
  3. Have you determined what it is about the sublingual that gives you problems? What kind did you try? I've read there are shots you can self-administer, though I'm sure it's still a prescription.
  4. Sure, an allergy is different than an auto-immune reaction. However, that doesn't change the fact that the body can detect what is applied to the skin. The antibodies are in the blood, and the blood is all throughout the body. So ingestion is not a prerequisite for an auto-immune reaction to gluten. As for eyeliner, mascara, etc; let's not forget tear...
  5. You know, this makes sense to me, given the information I've read about TMJ. Apparently, part of the reason TMJ sufferers often experience headaches, is the reduced blood flow cause by the misalignment of the jaw. So of course the ears can be effected by it too. BTW, glucosamine HCL works great for reversing TMJ, plus it helps various other joints. I'm...
  6. I agree that the evidence suggests you should remain gluten-free regardless of whether you actually have Celiac, gluten intolerance, or a wheat allergy. If you knew for sure that there wouldn't be damage, would you intensionally consume it, and put up with the discomfort? Since Celiac apparently runs in your family, I wonder if you might develop it if...
  7. I think there are probably too many variables to really know for sure. Even if it wasn't CC, there could easily be some other ingredient, especially if it was flavored. If it wasn't plain, I'd say it's anyone's guess. Perhaps you could look up the ingredients in common popcorn flavorings.
  8. You can certainly make casseroles and lasagna-type stuff without eggs or dairy. I've been playing around with a veggie "cheese" recipe idea I've had, and so far it looks like it'll work. I got a very convincing mozzarella texture, but it didn't really melt, which I think I can fix. I'll be posting it when I get it right. Anyway, starchy stuff can work as...
  9. I think the fatigue may be part of the gluten withdrawal. Many report having this experience at first, but it will pass. You can help your body recover faster, not only from fatigue, but the healing process in general, with a few supplements. Some of the ones often recommended include sublingual methylcobalamin (active form of vitamin B12), magnesium, B-complex...
  10. They say laughter is the best medicine, but it probably won't work if your neighbors are the ones doing the laughing!
  11. So glad you've found some things that help! The one thing which does surprise me however, is the L-Glutamine. That's the main form of glutamic acid in MSG, which is a known neurotoxin. But to date, I've yet to verify the effects of swallowing it verses having it get into the blood stream via the soft tissues in the mouth, which is how it works as a flavor...
  12. I guess you're referring to tinnitus. I've noticed it in relation to how my digestive system is working. If I eat stuff that doesn't digest well, I'll sometimes hear some ringing. Same if I forget to drink enough water, or when I wake up with a really dry throat. So, in my experience, I think it may relate to certain digestive issues. Though I'd like to...
  13. If stuff contacting the skin couldn't be a problem, allergists wouldn't be able to test for allergies by applying tiny amounts to the skin, and monitoring for reactions. Plain and simply, topical products do matter, and can cause a reaction. Just because one person doesn't react doesn't mean nobody else will. A few months back, there was an article about...
  14. Adding to what others have said, nuts, eggs, nightshades, yeast, and MSG tend to bother a lot of people.
  15. Well, I guess if nuts are out, what about seeds of various sorts? Like pine nuts, sunflower seeds, etc? Does she like rice pudding or tapioca pudding? They won't be so unhealthy if sweetened with Stevia, and you could also add berries or other fruit. I know you're looking for prepackaged, but I think your best options will turn out to be homemade. You can...
  16. About the betaine HCL, the typical recommendation is to take it at the very beginning of a meal. There are many brands out there, and most I've seen are between 320-650mg of betaine, and 35-165mg pepsin. Which one do you have?
  17. I find it interesting that many report needing more protein. In contrast, I found that I had to cut proteins down for awhile, otherwise there'd be a lot of fluid retention in the extremities. Perhaps that's one reason I was hungry, but I was having such difficulty with the swelling as it was. As for fats - yes, they are important. I really had to eat a...
  18. I just ran into this while doing a search on a site where I buy supplements. They appear to be natural, and the few I scanned over looked fairly harmless, so I figured I post the address for anyone who might be interested. The company is Open Original Shared Link I checked their FAQ, and there was no mention of gluten, so it would be a good idea to contact...
  19. I agree that you might just need to bake them longer. I never try to poke into my cakes, breads, etc to see if they're done, but just judge by the way it looks on the outside. I realize not everyone has the same results with a given recipe though. Anyway, the main thing I've found to cause cakes and such to fall is too much liquid. If they are done on...

    ARCHIVED Pain.

Can you list the supplements you're taking? Perhaps someone will see something lacking, or something that you might be better off without. As for what helps pain, my only experience indicates methylcobalamin (an active form of B12), and magnesium. Both are necessary for proper nerve function, without which there can be tremendous pain. I do hope you...
  21. I use Stevia as my only sweetener. It's an all-natural extract, and great for cookies, cakes, etc. The pure powder has zero calories, zero carbs, zero sugars, and is zero on the glycemic index. If your recipe calls for butter or oil, consider coconut oil. Coconut oil is largely Medium Chain Fatty Acids, which are metabolized differently than all other...
  22. I prefer the all natural peanut butter, which is simply peanuts and salt. Alternatively, you could make your own, if you have the right food processor or very powerful blender.
  23. It's basically how they protect themselves from any liability, in case there is some gluten. In most cases, I'd like to think it is safe. They're just not making any iron-clad guarantee.
  24. That is correct - a biopsy cannot rule out Celiac. Plus, it is possible to be gluten intolerant, and not Celiac, although the diet is the same either way. I would add, that it can take a while to see improvement. It was six months before I noticed any real change on the gluten-free diet. Then it became quite obvious. I did not seek any "official" diagnosis...
  25. Those allergy drops sound like a homeopathic remedy, which is essentially a very diluted form of the very things which can make you sick. From what I've read, it sounds to me like the ill person is expected to "build up a tolerance". But that IMHO is similar to the experiences many of us have had with gluten intolerance. Specifically, our symptoms are often...
